I wouldn't laugh too much. First year of production Minis are fetching daft money, whatever the condition.

Yeah there was a mega article in lats months C+SC by Richard Bremner... him and a couple of mates had clubbed together and bought a REALLY early mini, maybe even a pre-production one, in what is basically 'wreck' condition (not run for 30 years, horribly rotten floors etc). Its totally original though and they were wrangling over whether to restore it, leave it alone, get it roadworthy, or what. I think they paid about £12k for it! Even more impressively, they decided in the end to preserve it exactly as-is.

I like the idea behind that Mr B

restored, that mini could quite easily be like triggers broom - had it 20 years, 5 new heads and 4 andles

I just finished reading the book on 9600HP, the lengths that they went to to preserve every single bit of original metal etc etc. never recoup that and the same would go for the mini.

Preserve as is I say, plenty of other fucked up minis for us to laugh at

Preserve it by all means. But pay £12k for it first? That would buy a lot of whatever drug you're on.

I suppose you could see it as an investment, but shirley you could never sell it in case the buyer (or a subsequent one) undid all your hard preserving work by restoring it?

Cov Transport Museum have a pre-war Austin* that they've kept as-found because it's totally original. I'm pretty sure they got it for nowt though.

*or similar.

Do they differ in any way from subsequent ones, or is it just "supply n demand innit m8"?

There are a few differences in the Mk 1's, I suppose the main difference you will see is the floor panel seams - lap one way in the very early minis and lap the opposite way in every other one made due to water ingress when driven through puddles.

( i mean there is other stuff, like rear screen size, lamps and so on, but thats about the only real thing different you will notice on early 1959 vs later 1959 cars).

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1380-SWIFTUNE ... 2a1303a6b6

According to the owner, this is "Sorted". For £7495 it wants to be!

"The first stage was to add 13" wheels and genuine Sportspack arches and at the same time do something a little different. I had the back lights, Hillman Imp/Healey 3000/Aston Martin to name a few, frenched in by a well known custom car shop. The car was then part sprayed so it all matched.

...... Based on a metro turbo block I had built one of Swiftune's fairly rare road engines, a 1380 Sports Tourer Evo now Gold(see spec below).

Quite a nice car and to be fair i know i have seen much worse but 13" wheels are too big imho and what is Sports Tourer Evo Gold? Is that really how Swiftune describe the package?

frenched rear lights? WHY?

Oh yeah, must be FTW.......... sorry

^^To be different. To personalize it. To stand out from the crowd. You know...

Yeah fair enough i guess............but, well i guess i'm just an old fashioned type then. :)

When did these suddenly become worth £7500?!

No big suprises when had a look who was selling it, usually they don't sell anything below £50,000. Thats bargin basement with some of the cars they sell there.

{sticks neck on block}

Over priced it may be but it's bloody nice, and some fruit loop with lots of money and the ability to be suckered in by a shiney suit and cheesey smile will probably have that for not much less than the asking price.

200000 miles, 11 months mot, cd player, Good reliable car, no tax required due to age of car. Reluctant sale, needs a good home, lots of spares included. £2,990 ONO

Now apart from being expensive the bloke says it's tax exempt which of course it's not BUT if you put the reg into the DVLA site there's no mention of road tax prices?, strange.

I've seen that Cortina on and off locally for at least 15 years. Always thought the colour coding looked naff.

That's super cheap. At least compared to this one, inexplicably listed for one million pounds.

Ahh, Cottons. Yes they have this odd habbit of getting something interesting then putting a really outlandish price on it. They did it with a two stroke scooterped not long ago IIRC.

However - they do have an utterly unstylish Pug 309 Style Dizzle

I'm weirded by having 2 aft fuel fillers on a car that's 4 feet wide.... but I'll get over it.

One tank each side, Norm, just like an XJ6, only smaller...

The Onion's nice - and I'm pleased it's still with us - but it ain't three-large-plus nice. 75% discount, please... :|

I think that Transit's gradually coming down in price, pretty sure it was something like fifteen large a few weeks back.

Posted

/\... so give it another 3 years and it will be about right then.

In need for cash with lots of greed they put the decimal point in the wrong place maybe?

10k sounds suitably overpriced looking at the Moggie and a few others in this bargains* thread.
