My Cavalier is 20 Today!

We need to organise a shite reps car road test, your Cavalier, my Sierra and we'll need some more, a Montego and a Renault 21 maybe?

I've got a J-reg Montego 1.6LX which is about as midrange as they came; Le Wobbleur can do the testing, though that means that we can't have a BX 'cos it'll win.

Clelland giving it large at the tail end of the 92 BTCC. I remember watching this glued to my seat!

I remember that very well!   Fortunately for the Cavalier, Cleland went on to take the title in 95 (his second).  The good ole Cav was a right weapon in the BTCC back then...

Woollard looks over the new mk3 cav.....

Woollard goes corporate in this cav facelift promo,  and is paid to enthuse over the recontoured light clusters of the '93 models....

1.54 on for woollard with partridge style sports casual wear

Interesting to see in the "facelift " video there that the test cars have headlamp wash but no airbags? Ive never seen a post 92 facelift cav without airbags - and I've never seen one that still had the headlamp wash! I always thought they deleted that for the '93 model range *removes anorak*

I hope you don't mind, Rusty Rocket, but I've 'pinched' that picture of the red Mk3 to store in my photo collection.

I had a K registered Diplomat model, which had absolutely everything you would need... apart from an airbag!  It was Spectral blue, with the 20NE engine- wish I could have kept it to this day, a lovely classy car!

Cavette- that picture was straight from google images; I re-sized it- the full-res version is out there if you want a decent one!

Thanks again everyone for more comments and belated B'days too many of you to list! It's great that my Cav and Cavs in general are getting so much recognition.

Cav Mk 3s are absolutely solid gold future classics, phact.

I had a '94 SRi (16v Ecotec) for five years, I loved owning it every single day of that time and only sold it when I bought a bargainous mint low-mileage Calibra V6 and couldn't justify owning two cars that did pretty much the same thing. That Cav is definitely in the top 3 vehicles I've ever owned.

Happy birthday to your Cav, then! (My Calibra will also be 20 in February :-D  )

Well happy 20th Birthday to your Calibra for February John F. The Calibra is a great car too but sadly seam popular as engine donors or a magnet for tacky bodykits which has seen a lot of them off.

Think these will be rarer than the 80's Opel Mantas soon. Is the Calibra you have in white by the way? As im sure that's the one you posted about before when you repaired the back panel if Im right.

One of my Friends used to have a White Calibra Turbo and always thought the colour suited them. We drove down to South Wales to get it not long after I brought my Cav and on the journey back I rode back with my friend to sample the Turbo power while my brother drove my Cav. I and the Calibras new owner found some interesting items shall we say inside from the previous owner such as the finger tips off rubber gloves in both front door pockets. A crow bar under the passanger seat an a very nice Sony CD player that didn't belong to that car.

My friend offered to post these items back to him which he sheepishly agreed too. Anyway the Car itself was great and I enjoyed the brief chances I had to drive it too. Been in a V6 version as well and have to say that the engine really suits the Calibra.

An thanks Rusty-Rocket for the Pictures and brookjim for the video links always remember John Cleland giving the number 1 in his rear view mirror too. :-D

Always use to cheer on Cleland on the TV in the BTCC Cavs as a kid though back then never thought that I'd own one myself.

Maybe I'll have to do one of those Woollard style poses with the Cav too.

Im liking this idea oldford and cms206. I think all we need is a Peugeot 405 and a Fiat Tempra to complete the set. If someone wants to do this and money and travel permits I'd be up for that!

We could start are own AS group road test reviews?

I'll try and get some all round pictures of my Cavalier up as well. Shame I never took any when I first got it to show you how it's improved since then.

I'd happily put up my snow-camouflaged Volvo against equivalent estates, if we can find such.  Merc 230TE w124?  Ford Scorpio 2.4?  Was there an Audi A6 Avant in 1996/7?  Citroen XM?  BMW 525?

Best of the lot... anyone got a 90s Volga estate??????????????

^ Well my e34 520i touring could be a road test contender, but rather than coming freshly fettled from BMW press HQ its presently sat with the cooling system in bits on the driveway!

Anyone remenber this one? Stuck in my head just because of the GR9 soundtrack.....
