Classic Motor Show, NEC, this weekend

Hi Shiters,

I'm heading up to this on Saturday. What's worth seeing/avoiding?

Is it all sparkly MGBs and E types or is the 'interesting' end of the market well represented too?

Anyone else visiting or involved with club stands or whatever?

I will definitely* have my AS dealer sticker gaffer taped to my forehead so do say hello if you spot me.

Cheers!

I'm on BX Club duty on Sunday. Won't be many stands with a slightly-scruffy 200,000 mile example on the stand but the metallic beige 6000-mile Mk1 GT is probably more pleasing to the 'polish and garage' brigade. It's an absolute honey.

Didn't make it around all of the show last year, and that was when I was there for three days, so I suspect I won't see much this time. Hope we're nowhere near the Live Stage...

Oh and don't forget that parking is cheaper at the International train station. And covered. With a covered walkway all the way to the halls. ;)

Last year they had a chartiy thing where from £5 (Rover 200 coupe) to several hundred £ (E-Types, Aston Martins, etc) you go out as a passenger for a 20 minute drive. I had two tremendous goes (Lotus Europa Twin-Can £25 and V8 Westfield £30).

Yup, Sporting Bears do that every year. A superb idea and it raises vast sums for charridy.

Not sure if I will be going or not. Apparently I had been offered some tickets a while back, if I hear from the lad, I may go, if not, I wont.

I'll be there from Thursday to Sunday. Come and see me Friday and there might be FREE chocolates.

[advert] Stand is location TV142 which is pretty much where Hall 18 and 19 meet [/advert]

I'm currently having one of those 'ffs all this better be worth it' moments as I seem to have a right load of stuff still to sort...

I'll try and sneak a few pictures tomorrow ;)

Full of fucking Stags?

I suppose there will be a few on the Triumph stands...

:-P

(and yeh, I know what you really mean..)

I'm going up on Sunday with a bus load of others.  At £32.50 including admission it'd be rude not to.

If you book your ticket online, using discount code 2013sc knocks a bit off. £16.50 is still fooking expensive mind you.

Posted

Rover P6 Owners Club is there, so you'll see at least a few normal* people.

Can I come with you?

Yeah, no probs.

Seventeen quid to get in to this? Do you get a free blowjob from the MGOC or summat? I'm really glad I have no desire to ever visit this show (or the NEC, or Birmingham).

Anyway, a certain well known old car dealer will be taking an absolutely beautiful Fiat 1100S MM which I suggest you all go and perv over because it's HAMAZING.

will be there on Saturday, say hello if you see me and recognise me. I will be hanging about on the Fiesta Supersport stand at various times through the day but will mostly be taking in all the glorious tat..(and the nice stuff too)

Missed it last year due to work, same again this year.

Bumhats.

I HAVE gone mad...looked at this thread and decided to go, because it will be a one time only visit. So booked a hotel room for 3 nights and will spend Sat and Sun wandering about.

I'm there on Saturday helping now and again on the Renault Alpine Owners Club Stand. I agree it is a tad expensive (I'm getting a free ticket for helping out otherwise I would think twice). Didn't it used to be a dual Top Gear and Classic Car show in years gone by so you got a bit more bang for your buck so to speak?

Posted

It did, but it also meant you got a load of chavvy twats wandering around laughing at anything with less than a zillion horsepower. Which is pretty much everything I like.

I was apparently supposed to be organising the BX Club stand, which I have artfully done by delegating all the work to someone else under the pathetic excuse of new job with 200 mile round trip commute until I can sell my house and buy a new one, which I am doing all at the same time as the new job and 200 mile round trip commute. I shall be the distracted looking blonde one on the stand (looks OK from a distance, showing age related wear and tear up close. Just like most like BXs then).

I'll go again when they spend some of the money they wheelbarrow away every week on some decent frigging lighting.

I'll be there Friday for a change to avoid the weekend crowds. Can't give a toss how much it costs to get in or travel there, beats a day spent at work!

I got lucky this year as I won a pair of tickets from the NECs Facebook page and then I won a pair of tickets from Dep-O which I've given to my sister and her boyfriend who are coming up to met up from Cornwall.

Noting the comments about ticket prices. I go to the NEC classic show every year. I travel down from Scotland and do both Saturday and Sunday. I hire a car for three days (two days at the show and one travelling) and stay two nights in a hotel Adding it all together including more than 500 miles fuel costs it's over £300 to attend the show. There's nothing in Scotland anything like it and I'm prepared to pay the money for the quality and range of exhibits and stalls. I usually spend a few hundred quid on tools, parts etc for my various automotive projects while I'm there as it's the only chance I get.

I really envy you guys down South who can attend shows like this and only have to worry about the ticket price.

I'll keep an eye out for you Trig. I've had free tickets from the Metro club in the past but am paying this year for a change. I might even do one of those dream drive things if there's a Talbot Solara available.
