Shite of The Great Storm

Recommended Posts

All this news of impending OMGSTORMKAOS in the South of England has brought about many headlines and comparisons with the Great Storm of '87, which means there is plenty of footage and pictures about showing shite (sadly) crushed under trees and rubble. Like this:

Nice Volvo 740 in the background, but not sure what the chod crushed under the bricks is - any ideas?

And this:

(Note the Granny in the background)

Anybody else got any shots of chod from the Great Storm?

Also, is it just me or does anyone else automatically mention Gordon Kaye having an estate agent's sign crash through his windscreen and embed itself in his head, every time the Great Storm of '87 is mentioned? For me it's a bit like the Princess Anne/Reliant Scimitar thing.

Gordon Kaye got injured in a storm in 1990, I know this because I'd just started work.

I don't know what to say...

To think that all this time I've been wrongly trotting that line out.

Thank you for putting me right.

I'd have to Google Gordon Kaye to know who he is. Can't remember if we got that storm in '87 up here either.

Don't forget Leslie Crowther. He get twatted too didn't he?

*edit* Just looked online and it was a separate incident in 1992. My bad.

Wasn't he Thin Lizzy's front man Phil Linot's father in law?

Are peeps deliberately not posting pics of mangled SD1 and other Leyland tat?

Perhaps they were just too unpictureworthy as all could survive tree/roof/80's sitcom* star landage.

C'mon I want to see a picture of Penelope Keef bouncing off an ambassadors bonnet (fnarr).

Aye, you're right - Toyota Publica - forgot about them. Even smaller than those old Corollas, but a strong family resemblance.

IIrc someone was actually driving this when the tree fell on it. they got out unscathed too..look how the roof panel is hardly damaged. impressive

He was driving a Honda CRX.

Borrowed these off Flickr. The first pic is from Bromley Council, the rest are from someone in Surrey.

Kirk from Shoeburyness writes: "I slept through the hurricane only to awake to discover the car that I had spent two years building and completed two weeks earlier had suffered a little damage.........."

Kirk continues: "I travelled along the seafront the day after the storm and came across a tree across the road near some road works. Ironically someone had had the foresight to place a sign nearby which stated 'Caution! Heavy plant crossing'".

That is incredible. This is the sort of marketing that money cannot buy. I wouldn't be suprised if they just got back in and drove off once the massive tree has been dislodged.

You are quite right, Sir, and judging by the look of her, the price was, indeed, right for old Phil:

Amazing that we arrived at this through incorrectly attributing famous storm 'victims' of yesteryear to the great storm of '87. That's Autoshite for ya, I suppose. Anyway, enough off-topic nonsense, how about that cracking parade of shite that Lord Sterling has kindly put up? I particularly like the shot of the Rover 200 being stalked through the fallen trees by that bronze Jag.
