People carrier shite, inspiration?

Recommended Posts

Posted

On Wednesday we welcomed the newest Lanklet into the world, Madeleine Eve, 8lbs, 15Oz. Mum and baby doing well e.t.c.

This got me thinking, will the old Xantia be big enough for 2x children, a push chair, all the shite that goes with kids e.t.c? We often ferry grandparents about too. Basically, we could end up looking at some sort of people carrier device as a family transportation solution.

It needs to be cheap, and diesel as i'm one cheap bastard. I was thinking along the lines of a Fiat Multipla diesel, or maybe even an LDV Pilot postbus or something.

Any suggestions?

1) Congratulations.

2) Vauxhall Zafira.

Fiat Multipla all the way. That'll make up for me not getting one.

Alternatively, Seat Alhambra - to my mind the most attractive of that Ford/VW/Seat group. Especially a facelift one. In red.

Congrats LT.

This may not be the most popular suggestion around here but I'd look at an earlyish Sharan/Alhambra tdi.

Congratulations. And my suggestion for what little its worth,Renault espace mk1 quadra

Congratulations, and don't be such a big ponce about it and stick with the Xantia. It's a big car. A damn site bigger than the Mk3 Escort that my parents hauled me and my brother around in when we were nippers.

Or the Renault 9 that my family managed to cope with. Impressive given that there were six of us. We 'upgraded' to a Samba years later.

Congratulations! Incidently the latest baby tops, Georgia is an old lady of 15 days now :-)

Zafiras are bloody useless if you have child seats in the back because you can't access the rearmost seats without removing the child seats first.

Galaxy for me, but I've now got 3 little ones.

It was either that or a Urrrghh, Bleargh..... Picasso!

Toyota Estima/Lucida?

Congrats on the new arrival from me too.

Congrats on the new little one!

Another vote for keeping the Xantia. At least for a bit longer anyway... There were three of us and we were ferried about in a Lada Riva for ages so it should cope with small people.

If a people carrying device is required though, the Zafira does it very well.

T2 & fuck the seat belts.

Tell 'em to hang on tight.

Congrats & hope this helps.

Congratulations.

I like multipla's because they're cheap, look entertaining, have mental dashboard and seat 6 people in proper seats. None of this squishy flip up nonsense or those horrible rock n roll ones you get in volvos.

Congrats on the new arrival.

Loved our frogface Multiplop, but the DMF made for a costly repair long before a clutch would be due on a 'normal' flywheel.

I'd say get this...

...but not so great for old folks clambering in and out the high side door. Mine struggle a bit.

The Eurovan 2 is incredibly cheap for what you get.and fairly reliable*

For additional shite points score the Lancia variant

Or you could buy the identical C8 variant and not be quite so shitetacular.

Citroen Xsara Picasso?

- only kidding! :-D

Seriously though - when did comparatively small families start needing ENORMOUS vehicles?

People carriers are for wimps. Myself and my two sisters got ferried around in a rusty Montego Countryman with the rear facing seats in the boot.

My brother and I were lugged round in the back of an Austin A55 van and after that a Mini van. Seems like a step down, and it was size-wise, but at least the mini had the luxury of a plywood seat. We just used to slide around with the dog on the painted floor of the Austin.

Yes, yes, insert "Ooooh we used to dream of riding around in a Montego..." comment here...

I've resisted all urges to sell this:

I can thouroughly recommend them, if you can live with the 3.3 V6

Congratulations.

Another vote for the Multipla. Unfortunately with the size of buggies and all the other baby stuff you end up carting around they are just easier. Failing that then Kangoo or Berlingo.

I vowed that we would manage with the Toledo but by the time Lobz_2 arrived whilst we could manage, it was a load easier to buy a small mpv for family duties.

This.

Granny and Grandpa Miggins sit in fold down seat to far rear.

Sorted.

We managed to fit our 3 kids in cars with wide back seats but we never carried grandparents around.  It basically meant looking through old AA road tests from their website and looking at the interior dimensions drawings.  Mitusibishi Galant and Volvo S80 scored well as long as the 3 child seats aren't too massive, with only two you'll be fine.

A 7 seater that hasn't been suggested yet is the Honda Shuttle, some were 5 seat and some were 7 so make sure you get the right one.  Another one is the Mitsubishi Space Star.

Ex post-office LDV is the shite winning choice btw
