Getting bored with the Punto and need something more interesting in my life,

Open minded to what to buy but something either fun to drive or overpowered barge type motoring would be a big hit on the Claim driveway.

Can't be arsed searching for one, but this time last year I had a Mitsubishi RVR which cost me £800. It was basically a small people carrier type body with evo running gear and engine. It surprised a lot of people and was gr9 for baiting rep mobiles.

I forgot to mention, grey imports are a no no for insurance purposes,

A half-decent 200 quattro avant went recently for £500, or this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1986-MERCEDES-500-SEL-AUTO-BLUE-/300966612048?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4613020c50

To think someone could end up with this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/mercedes-250-saloon-auto-deisel-/181204656180?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2a30a3a034 is quite sad, given the above

Absolutely not a fuggin thing could possibly go wrong. Buy it blind off ebay, then pick it up in the dark and drive it home, as it is customary for a true Autoshiter.

I nearly bought a Thema Turbo 16v LS, a very very late one which some lunatic had specially ordered with an 8.32 interior fitted from the factory. Leather covered  RHD 8.32 dashboard!, hugely fluffy carpet, leather headlining, full leather interior and the insane 8.32 boot spoiler which takes up about 1/4 of the boot.

I was so, so tempted, but bought an Integrale instead. That didn't work out exactly to plan as the 'grale was a money pit. I often think I should have bought the Thema. If I saw it again I'd buy it, but it seems to have disappeared. No doubt it'll show up in 20 years.

Thema turbo's a good shout, I really enjoyed mine. They're a bit thin on the ground though.

Blimey - I'm not really keen on BMWs and I don't need another car, but even I'm tempted by that ^ - 'because it's there' kind of thing.

Mx5?

I'll second that. They are not overpowered or mental in any kind of way, and people will think you're either going through a very mild midlife crisis or have taken up hairdressing.

But they're brilliant fun to drive, especially if shod with ditchfinder tyres. They're also well built, reliable and easy to work on. Spares are plentiful and cheap, fuel consumption is reasonable and you can insure all NAs under a classic policy nowadays.

What about RobT's £300, 2700 Rover Sterling? Does it get any better than that?

The endless hours sitting in a dark lane at the wee small hours of the morning waiting for the AA truck, was all part of the plan.

Right, what's the better option for daily ownership between these;

Jag XJ6 V8 X330

Jag X Type AWD 2.5/3.0

Discovery 3.9 (94 onwards)

Range Rover P38 V8.?

All will have LPG kits fitted to make them more useful on a day to day basis.

DON't buy a P38 - see the AS thread dedicated to exposing this model as the money pit it tends to be.

GDHaydock used to have a V8 Disco on LPG, he's just told me via skype that they have the usual Disco issues (rot on boot floor, rear arches, sills, front inner wings) and that the LPG tanks have to be depressurised & removed to weld sills. Also ignition system needs to be in good order to run well on LPG.

The V12 BMW. Because once in your life you MUST have owned a V12.

And if you have 1500 to blow on a car, NOW is the time for it.
