Hey, DW, are you anywhere near that road that goes from Machynlleth to that reservoir? I don't know if you know if it, but it twists and turns and the views are out of this world. Could be a nice run out if this gets off the ground.

Actually I might buy a 200 pound shitter the day before and just drive it up and see what happens. Sounds like an autoshite plan

Get the train over, buy one of Ian's. It's a nice day out.

Er, possibly. There are a LOT of reservoirs around here. Mac is probably about 40 minutes away. Not planning on heading that way particularly. Coming from the North, you could follow the A470 through Mac then take the pretty route to where we are. Don't blame me if it takes you many hours!

For those of us with an over active ebay finger and therefore a choice of cars, what are the criteria for the best car to bring?

I have not got one of those but I do like Citroens and do have my Visa 17RD, DS Super, ZX TD Aura, Xantia V6 and a CX 2400 I/E Auto but not on the road.

DS isn't really shite, and CXs are heading away from that tag too. The others more than qualify.

I don't think the field is hugely enormous, so that'll be pretty much dedicated to tents. There is a HUGE parking area that we'll have use of though, right next door. Perfect for the in-car campers/caravans! I'm looking to keep costs absolutely minimal, but portaloos may need to happen - though the hotel will be open pretty much all of the time, so maybe they won't be necessary.

So the car possibility List is:

Citroen Visa 17RD

Citroen Xantia V6

Citroen ZX TD Aura

How about these:

1990 Oltcit 1100R

1988 BMW 735i

1996 BMW 328i coupe

1987 Maserati 425 Biturbo

1972 MGB GT

1995 Jaguar Sovereign

I have not camped since my kids were young so I will book a hotel room for myself.

Don't buy a Maserati Biturbo unless you like fabricating & welding, seriously!

Out of that list I'd go for the BMW 328i Coupe or the Jag.

I have just had the Biturbo windscreen surround repaired and a new windscreen is due to be fitted Monday.

Oh no, have you already got one? That makes three of us. Bollox has got a 2.5 4-door in LHD and I've got a 222 SE.

Bring your one along to Shitefest '14 and we can commiserate each other.

It has been know to rain in Wales occasionally, be careful with a BiTurbo as it may dissolve in front of your eyes

My list are not fantasy cars but from the current collection. Hence the Thread “What is Wrong With Me†when I bought the Jag last Saturday. Then after all that yesterday I have put my name to an Alfa 156!

My wife and I have long wanted a Bi Turbo and have made offers without success and then in May this year we finally got one. It runs well, not too rusty but has electrical gremlins. When we bought it had a cracked windscreen and now the MOT is due it had to be replaced. We could see a couple of rust spots by the screen and sure enough there were a couple of small holes but not too bad.

We bought our Biturbo in the spring with a MOT and while it suffered from lack of use the only problems we have had have been electrical i.e. windows and central locking. We even regased the Air con and that works now. Our Biturbo 2.5 carburettor feels quick and will leave my MG ZT-T manual 190bhp for dead. I believe it is free from structural rust but it’s MOT time next week so we will know for sure.

I don’t mind a bit of banter, its not the first time I have been told my choice in cars is crap. Just as long as it is a bit of fun.

You managed to re-gas the aircon?? I assume you used a newer type of refrigerant then, the Biturbo-era cars used R12 which is now banned.

Mine had new sills fitted in 2003, apparently. But when I started the job of replacing them again last year I discovered that the bottom of the A and B pillars had completely dissolved on the driver's side - if I'd rolled the car it would have folded flat.

Yes, apologies folks.

Was a little bit bladdered when I posted.

It's a car with challenging looks!

^^^^^ LOL!

I have done some mega welding on my Biturbo, had the engine out and all sorts. The engine is back in now, 99% of the welding is done (to a pretty good standard even if i say so myself, probably the best i have ever managed) and I think it just needs the exhaust refitted to run, but i'm suffering a bit of a Mojo shortage with it at the moment.

The people who do the air con on my older cars put an oil in the system to protect the seals then legal gas, we have used it for several years now and it seems good.

Barefoot – That’s fine.

Mr_Bo11ox - Any chance for Wales May 2014?

I'm sorry, as much as I'd like to come to one of these the distance is just too great for the type of cars I drive and would just cost too much in fuel and food. I came to the Stondon meet, but Wales, Wiltshire and North Yorkshire are just too far. When, and if, one of these meets comes to the South East I will certainly hope to be there.

Anyway I digress. Plans look good, and I hope those of you who go enjoy yourselves.

If you can get to Brighton I'm sure we could arrange a lift or whatever,

Thanks for the kind offer Gary, it's much appreciated. I'll have to see what I'm doing closer to the time, and how the finances are looking.

Just wondered, have you had any luck selling the Maestro yet?

Posted

Nope, still here. I should probably try sticking it on some other sites and that.

I've got some very bad news to report. Sadly, the Daewoo Leganza that has been lurking on the hotel car park for many years has gone - presumed scrapped. I'm hoping to assemble some other local 'gems' to try and counteract this.
