Didn't they do a Vauxhall Nova of some type which was a sport model or am I just making that up

Oh yeah and hallo again after about a year away

Nova Sport! Came in white white twin Webber carbs I think.

Hard to find now in unruined condition (compomotives, XE, roll cage, underside and arches covered in waxoyl).

Vauxhall Vectra Premier!! Basic Envoy plus rev counter, CDX spec alloys (only 4 stud not 5) but the reason this is my favourate  special edition is the air con as I was in a traffic jam in deepest darkest Glasgow on one of the hottest days of the year and I just kept looking at the air con switch thinking that wont work.......................so after about an hour pressed it and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh it was ice cold.

I had a Nova Sport, C273 KAV IIRC.

Bit of an enigma really - no matter how much set-up on a rolling road, it was either all-or-nothing with the power delivery. Great fun though.

Shit gearchange mind - the standard Nova effort which required the plunge for reverse, this made the rest of the selection slow and clumsy.

I had a k11 Micra Mystique. Based on the 1.3 Si, but with 5 doors. Came in Chromoflare paint (as on the TVRs) and everything on the options list thrown on it. So it came with ABS, sliding sunroof, air con, electric windows, remote locking, front foglights, rear headrests, and a decent Clarion radio/CD. First they only made one for each dealer on a V plate, but due to demand, they became a special edition on W plates.

I really liked fathaW201's Escort Mexico. Sadly it was mk7 rather than a mk1... Seems I'm the only fan of the mk7 one.

Was the mk 2 Fiesta 1.4S classed as a special edition? I had a mint one in white back in '93. I'd love another one now.

Other worthy editions I can think of are, the Vauxhall Astra 888 coupe, the Vectra and Calibra DTM, the Corsa C exclusive, the Mondeo ST200, VW Golf mk4 anniversary...

And going back a bit further we have the Hillman Imp Caledonian, the Avenger Top hat and sunseeker, the Escort Mexico mk1 which was originally a special edition, and later the previously mentioned Harrier, and Linnet, along with the Goldcrest and Huntsman.

Just remembered the vectra touring/200 thing. Basically a gsi with harder suspension and white alloys.

Sorry forgot to add Peugeot 205 Gentry and 205 STDT to the above post.

I remember What Car? magazine pitching the Pug 205 Gentry against the Renault 5 Baccarra in the late 1980s or early 1990s. Both were autos.

"Ooooh yes sir, I can boogie...."

Highly-prized in Vectra B circles, apparently! :)

I actually went with my mate to see one in the local vauxhall dealership (Ormskirk vauxhall as was) after school as he was a hardcore vauxhall apologist. We'd argue at school over which was the better car, a nova 1.3sr or a capri 2.0 laser.

We never resolved it, he got a brand new corsa on an X-reg off his parents. I got a £300 orion with a dodgy MOT and an RS kit held on with wood screws and silicone.

Mustard mitt the vectra was impressive though.

There were 2 different Vectra STs that people commonly confuse, there's the Supertouring which was basically a white SRi with a GSi front bumper, white wheels and some different trim. Think these came in 2.0 and 2.5 v6

Then there was the ST200, only 38 of these made (hence limited edition not special IMO) these were originally GSis i think. these came mostly in black I think, and had been messed around with by MSD (Motorsport developments) these were all 2.5 v6 IIRC upgrades were 3 litre cams, 4 pot front brakes, Koni suspension, Recaros, and Speedline Mistral wheels. Cosmetically I think they had Steinmetz skirts, and some irmscher bits and pieces inside.

How about the Millennium Edition Ford Focus/Ka/Puma? Only came in retina-burning yellow, with different alloys, and fairly good spec.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the ubiquitous first-generation MX5 ! There seem to be dozens of 'special editions' of this, ranging from piping hot to lukewarm...

Here's one of the hot ones, the 'Le Mans' edition. They only made around 20 of them in 1991. It has a BBR turbo conversion giving 150HP, the compulsory 'aero and rimz' and discreet* 787B-inspired paint :

At the opposite end of the spectrum is the humble 'Monza', which is a stripped-out late 1.6 with the sporting* 90HP engine. The only 'special' things about it were the Speedline rimz and dodgy decals. They made around 800 of them, one of which has found its way to the caring* hands of yours truly :

The German Polo Genesis was quite nice. It was a supercharged G40 with all the extras, so fog lamps and metallic paint basically. And leccy windows I think. One RHD model was built, the rest were LHD and given away in Germany in a competition run by the band.

The UK Genesis model was an entry level 1043cc jobbie with no extras, just some gaudy badges.

Not quite. The G40 was optional. Most came with 55 and 75hp.

Polo Harlequin.

800px-VW_Polo_III_Harlekin.JPG

No different from the ordinary Polo in terms of spec, but this special edition is decent by means of being so balls to the wall stand out outstanding. None of this 'wheeltrims we usually reserve for the Zodiac' nonsense. I love them, despite not being bothered about Polos in the slightest.

This has an interesting story. Originally, they didn't want to build it as a special edition. VW launched an ad with the original Harlekin to display the excellent and equal build quality of all the body panels. The reaction was an enormous demand for a multicoloured Polo which VW finally made. This model had a separate assembly line on which ready cars were disassembled and reassembled again. 4 different Harlekins were created in this shuffling, base colours were red, yellow, blue and green. The reassembling had a distinct colour order of course, red cars came with yellow front doors etc.

I love Mk2 Cavaliers, but i think I must be the only person in the world who thinks the Calibre looks PROPER SHIT and about 34736219% worse than any other one.

The SRis and Commanders, even the 'normal' ones look miles better.

The Mk2 Cavalier is a great motor,

I had an early one on an X plate and my father had the special edition run out hatchback SR130 on a F plate

So I guess that model deserves a mention on this thread.

The Calibre looks like a proper car with a lot of german aftermarket plastic crap. Looks like Zender, maybe Irmscher or, even worse, Zastrow. Designed for the Ascona C obviously.

I'm in as well, those Calibres have always looked shit IMO. and they are inevitably 180% more rotten than they would have been without the placca coating.
