That same Mini adventure (Non-Genuine Barn Find).

Abridged and digitally remastered version, copied back from The Mini Forum.

Origonal lost in the great information purge and reformation of 2013.

Some pics were lost, but may still exist in the TheTDCIWeigh archive.

Here we have our small project. A 1976 Clubman Auto.

It was spotted for sale in a local Post Office window and I found it impossible to resist.

Digits dialed, viewing arranged.

Car had been three quarters restored by an elderly gent who then sadly passed away.

It looked good but wouldnt start. We dicided to pay for it and push it the half mile home.

Made it home.

Looks better in the light.

Moar updates follow. Stay tuned.

Unloading of the car began. (car was full of rubish, **** seat covers and general smelly filth. Found the origonal hubcaps though.)

Just the aforementioned crusty pockets to deal with. We think, anyway. It's a Mini though, so all bets are off.

New plugs, fresh fuel and some easy start are prescribed.

Think this is probably your culprit for the toenail clipping... ;)

As I said in the thread that went awol, what a wonderful little car.

Posted

I left my spade at home this time.  It is a lovely little thing, and I reckon the Clubman face is a handsome thing.  The standard chrome hubcaps on these are one of the best designs of the 70s, along with the Datsun dustbin lid/steel drum trims.

Posted

I can't believe how good that looks, bloody brilliant, especially the comedy overspray on the back!

Bloody brilliant buy! Lovely little car.

Yeah, there's comedy overspray aplenty. The old boy was near the end when he painted it in his garage, and he didn't do the greatest job.

Good effort though. Hopefully it'll polish up well in the places the paint is actually meant to be.

On the plus side, it seems that a lot of bits were fitted new before it was laid up.

Headlining, exhaust, brake lines and Resevoir, dizzy cap, points, rotor, coil, are all new (underneath the 6 years of grime/overspray).

Is it just me or does that rear seat look like it's from a late 1980s City or something? It's a bit trendy for 1975. Those carpets have come up beautifully for a clean.

Shhhhhhhhhh....

Can't you hear it?

It begs: "Please, please paint me a black tidemark to go with my sexy plastic wheelarches".

Swap you (the mini) for a lovely silver MGF. I know I tried this with the taxi but...., or was it already with the MGF. Oh I can't remember. Anyway......

Posted

Thanks for the offer PBK, but she's a cash only when she goes.

Posted

I will keep wearing you down with a combination of Rover/MG dark magic and my lucky badgers foot until you succumb to the temptation of MGF'ness.

I'd love a mini but not only have I missed the boat but I appear to have torpedoed the bastard on it's way out of port. Sigh.

I am sure you will have no issue with selling the wee beatie. Good on ya.

How's resto going? I had a red clubman like this on a K plate. You must get the original moulded black vinyl seats for this beauty, although by R they may have been using fabric. The seats in there are just not right for era though. These cars go for daft money now, good luck.

Posted

How much will this be when you sell it? Hope it's lots as the last thing I need is to buy a Mini!

Posted

Will be finishing the last jobs on this on Thursday.

Refitting front belts, Fitting electric washer pump and sorting headlights out (dipped beam has stopped working on both sides).

Then MoT. Maybe at the weekend. After that, we will be looking for about £1500.

We got the dipped beam, seatbelts and screen wash squared up and sorted today.

Off for an MOT soon, then ebay unless any A.S. member fancies parting with life savingses.
