explosive-cabbage Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Do some research - would this fit? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STARTER-MOTOR-RENAULT-TRAFIC-4-5-12-VOLVO-340-66-DAF-55-DACIA-1300-LRS256-/141101289180
explosive-cabbage Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Grab these too! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1989-Dacia-Duster-4x4-Front-Brake-Pads/201072455297?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222006%26algo%3DSIC.FITP%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D22048%26meid%3D6263692785874602455%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D9537%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D281127925968 SambaS 1
SambaS Posted April 17, 2014 Author Posted April 17, 2014 I think it would fit yes, I remember John pilfering some bits from a Renault Traffic for his when we were kids
explosive-cabbage Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 I think it's this one Will http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Deutz-fahr-DX7-10-Starter-1986-to-1991-/370726210833?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Cars+Year%3A1989%7CCar+Make%3AARO%7CCars+Type%3A1.4%7CModel%3A10&hash=item5651010d11 That one looks similar to, but a bit stubbier than, the XUD ones - is there a space constriction? If you can get me those 5 measurements at some point you can have an XUD starter for free. SambaS 1
explosive-cabbage Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 £57 is still expensive for a starter though...
SambaS Posted April 17, 2014 Author Posted April 17, 2014 Also these tiny weeny things cant be the battery terminals so I think I need those too:
EssDeeWon Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Blimey an 80s Duster!! We knew a family that had a red one of these in the late 80s, it was often the butt of the jokes when they visited in it purely because they has a car called a 'Duster' not seen one for many years though. Good save. SambaS and the judge 2
mat_the_cat Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 It's funny the things you remember - as a kid I had a strange hankering for a Duster (I was an Autoshiter from an early age it seems) and I recall reading a summary of the vehicle in CAR magazine. Something along the lines of "Duster to dust, ashes to ashes, quick someone, pass us the matches". I think I have a 4x4 buyers guide from the mid 90s which has a page or two on the Duster - will try and upload it later. Not that you really need to check it over before purchase, but it may be of interest. RedSparrow and SambaS 2
lovejoy Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 SambaS, I think nigel bickle could be a source of parts for you - the duster has a lot in common with R12's, andnigel has a load of stuff for his 12 collection - I too maybe able to come up with some "stuff",having had 15 R12 estates.... and driven an ARO 10 that was taken to Spain, brand new, by a then friend...
nigel bickle Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Possibly. Is the motor as 12 unit? Need to see a piccy.. Happy ot help -if I can
red5 Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 £57 is still expensive for a starter though... Eeeer - no.. £60-100 seems to be about the average these days. Frontera 2.8 (isuzu) was £97 mega-trade. list was like £260. helps if it x-references of course, but for something that went out of production 18 years ago ...
mat_the_cat Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Here you go! catsinthewelder, brickwall and SambaS 3
Guest DJ77HNG Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 The starter is exactly as Dacia 1300/1310/1400 has. In Romania is about 60-80 euro a new one (different producer). A use one is about 30 euro in acceptable shape.I will see how much are the front fenders and replay. If you need more information about Dacia parts you can leave me a message.By the way - In Romania your car is called Aro 10 not Dacia Duster, but i'm sure that all the engine parts are from old Dacia 1300 (excepting diesel). purplebargeken, scruff and 500tops 3

dollywobbler Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 You really are building up a collection of win. SambaS 1
SambaS Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 Fitted the Jimp battery to this today, 3 things work, the wipers, the hazard lights, and a red switch lights up. That is all! Daunted, not much. I gave it a wash and scrubbed the canvass roof cover, it's not looking much better, I think a jetwash would be good but sadly this thing wont drive. Ah hem. One positive though, is that the engine will turn over with a ratchet. So next job is to purchase a suitable starter motor, actually we found some on eBay listed for the Aro 10 so happy days. Don't know when I'll buy that as the Jimp shall be put on the road, then this. Oh and the welding. It's going to need more than the Monza, but the chassis is sound. Just where the body mounts on in 6 places will all want sorting. All the seatbelt anchor areas. All the seat mountings, the floor near the pedal box and both full sills. That's as far as I've looked. Once it starts, stops and is safe to take for an MOT I will have the MOT man tell me what to weld. Whilst cleaning it today I had a bit of a flashback to 1996/7 when Darren had one at the scrapyard. I love this car! Skizzer, KruJoe and Semi-C 3
dollywobbler Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 It looks bloody awful. I shall watch for progress with interest.
SambaS Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 Does this photograph work? This should give everyone an idea of the welding needed. 8 body mounts, this is one including the sill area. xtriple and HillmanImp 2
xtriple Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Bugger! Might need a new roll of wire for that job! SambaS and tooSavvy 2
HillmanImp Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Newspaper, filler and underseal. Job done. Having one welded up properly will not be 'right'. It certainly won't be like the one at the scrapyard 18 yrs ago.
SambaS Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 True true, but one day I might brake and the chassis will stop and the body wont! Had to employ my fingers then to count 18 bloody years ago!! I don't need to hear things like that. 1996 was a few years ago to me!
brickwall Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Dammit! That looks bad; it's going to take a while.

SambaS Posted February 7, 2016 Author Posted February 7, 2016 So spent a morning messing on with this in the hope of getting it running. The preceding video to the one above was 43 minutes, I will spare you the pain... Basically had to remove a pin from the bell housing of gearbox as new starter had one pushed in. later realised I should have left it there and removed the one from the new starter... Then fit the starter using one bolt that seemed to do the job Then stick a battery on and had a look for the wiring to starter... nada. Bodged some up with scrap and jump cables and it turned over. Check for spark nope. Eventually found loose wire to condenser, fixed this and we have a spark and with easy start down the carb it fired. This process used 3 fully charged batteries! I was just seeing signs that the fuel pump was working when the last battery died so I never got it running on its own petrol and thus could not see if it drives. Now in process of arranging the Dacias transport back home so I can put some real work into it. Andrew353w, vulgalour, Coprolalia and 3 others 6
Andrew353w Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 I'm just so totally impressed with this Duster! It's a pity you're so far away as I'd love to see it in the flesh! Please keep going!
KruJoe Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Ha ha good work Edd!I bet those were my batteries, eh?I'd best check that Pops_KJ has had them on charge again for my return later this week...
