Best place for old style number plates?

I ordered those Tippers rivet plates this morning, £51.50 delivered which is a lot of money but Framptons wanted £64.95 so it's still cheaper than it could have been.

Worth every penny, Trig, they look superb. If they were cheaper I'd have a pair made with the reg. of my dad's old Maxi, as it had the same type of plates when he got it new in 1974/5,

Theres an ebay seller called ‘designaplate’, he sells plates with this font, in pressed ally and excellent quality. Theyre only about £20 a pair delivered, I’ve had loads off him. I see that he is only advertising this font on a black background now, but I bet £1 he will do a set on yellow and white if asked in a quiet voice. In fact I wanted a set for the Maser, I might ask him to knock us one up before the numberplate stasi come round and lift all his gear.

Theyre the closest to Sercks I have found, they look ‘period’ to my 1970’s/80’s eyes and no doubt are strictly speaking illegal, but are not illegal enough to bother any coppers or MOT testers.

My plates arrived this morning, they look great and I can't wait to fit them!.

Saw an A-reg ex-police SD1 with raised rivet plates ... (A152SUW) - surely that's an anachronism?

I got some decent raised steel plates for the Saab on Ebay - they look THE BIZ. Seller is called qualitypressings. 22 quid including postage.

My Saab has pretty awful plates, with a blue bar on the left containing not only the European flag stuff but also the Saab logo.

I ordered some new plates from Plates For Cars (found them on ebay) and they've arrived this morning.

The actual reg number is great but in small(ish) letters underneath (where the dealer information sometimes goes) it says "DOG LIMO".

WTF?

Good day all.  I have a large collection of these types of plates.  I'm not sure where they are all from, but I would be willing to offer them individually if you find one in the photos that would suit your needs.  I live in Canada, so please appreciate that shipping would be relative to that, though as this is my first attempt at this, I have no idea what the cost would be.

If you see an example that you would like, let me know.  I am happy to forward more detailed photos if required.

Get in touch with Grizz on Retro Rides - he collects numberplates.

Does anybody know of a plate supplier who will do acrylic plates with a font like this?

RaisedRivetedBlack.jpg

This is the font on (what appears to be) the original dealer plate on the back of my 924, but the front plate has been replaced with one with the more squarish pre-2001 Charles Wright font. Being a bit persnickety about these things, I'd like the front and back to match, but I'd also like to keep the remaining dealer plate. All the websites I've found will do "showplates" in all kinds of ridiculous fonts, but nothing that looks like this (which is actually a Framptons raised riveted plate).

DMB Graphics will do that rounded font if you ask for it. Jon (Dugong) had a front one made for his Daihatsu to match the original rear.

Tippers?

Yep, had a look but couldn't see anything that looked like what I want.

Interesting - looks like they can do repro dealer plates with logos an' all - that would be even cooler!

Just to follow up my query, I got in touch with DMB Graphics through the website (http://www.dmb.uk.com), asking if he could reproduce my 924's original dealer plates. Sent a couple of pics, and today I picked these up from the sorting office:

Dave's done a fantastic job there, all all for £28.95 the pair including delivery - cheaper than bog-standard plates from Halfords! Only really needed the front plate, but the rear will be a handy spare.

A bit nervous about having to drill holes in it now...

OOOH!

The font is completely identical to the one used on my Jag!! I have seen fairly close before - but never exactly right like this!

What are they called? - I can't find them on the DMB site anywhere!

You won't find that font listed as an option on the website - I had to send in a query on the contact form and provide photos. I think he may do other old-school fonts too.

Thanks for this - I will send him a query! Did he say what the font was called?

Send Dave a message on here with good clear photos of what your after, he's the best person I've seen at reproducing plates.

The font is completely correct - I haven't seen this font accurately reproduced before. The font was widely used on Jaguars in the eighties and early nineties - and on Rovers too.

Very unusual font too. There was so much variety then.

They managed to match the font on my Astra perfectly.

Call me picky, but the bottom inside corner of the letter V isn't curved the same and the Griffin roundel looks smaller.
