KruJoe Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Is the belt fairly straight-forward on the little 1.4 twin-cam?
sloth Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 yes mr boll. a woek mate had a nightfire one. it was a LAYTE PLAIT MADNUZ one aswell.
Sigmund Fraud Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Is the belt fairly straight-forward on the little 1.4 twin-cam? Yes, as long as you can get the bloody crank pulley bolt off !
Noel Tidybeard Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 to be fair the "rover" montego seats are quite easy to strip down and the covers will go nicely through the washing machine and i cant see the rover 200/400/800 seats being much different
Mr_Bo11ox Posted April 22, 2015 Author Posted April 22, 2015 3-dr passed its MOT today, went straight through!!!!! Yesssssssss Norbert, Honey Badger, vulgalour and 7 others 10
KruJoe Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Result! There's a little piece of my heart in that car. Well pleased
Mr_Bo11ox Posted November 30, 2015 Author Posted November 30, 2015 Sent off the key fob, 5AS box and engine ECU from the green SEi today for testing/reprogramming etc. Hopefully some new K-series Kapers will be cracking off soon CGSB, phil_lihp, DeeJay and 4 others 7
dieselnutjob Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Sent off the key fob, 5AS box and engine ECU from the green SEi today for testing/reprogramming etc. Hopefully some new K-series Kapers will be cracking off soon It's a shame that I didn't spot this earlier. I could have helped as the unit that we sell can match ECUs to 5AS and code in fobs as well. In fact it would have been useful to test it as I don't think that we have tried it on something this old.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 Yo DNJ, how much is your diagnostic gizmo for Rovers? I think I will always be at risk of scooping up old Rovershite so it might end up being a godsend one day as these things get rarer and rarer and less people can be arsed to fiddle with them. Anyway, anyone remember this old heap? I've never had it started since I bought it 6 months ago or whatever. Another spur-of-the-moment eBay bid that turns out to be a right old ball & chain. Anyway it wouldnt start cos the immobiliser was playing up so I took off the Engine ECU, 5AS alarm box and sent them off along with the key and fob to this lad: http://www.technozen-electronics.co.uk/ He investigated and agreed the fob and the box were not communicating, so re-programmed them and supplied/programmed a second fob. Cost £30 plus a fiver each way in shipping. Got them back this week: I excitedly plugged them in yesterday and turned the key. fuggin NOWT!!! the ign and oil lights come on but theres no click off the solenoid, or any relay or anything when you try and start it. WTF? The alarm i think is working now at least, cos the little LED on the dash comes on and goes off when you plip the fob so thats summert at least. Anyway on closer inspection I find that NONE of the electrical things work on this car. No wipers, heater blower, horn, elec windows, hazards, lights etc, absoutely nothing. Then i notice when you open the drivers door the fuppin oil light comes on dimly. Eh??? I checked all the fuses and theyre OK, and I looked for signs of butchery in the wiring loom and found none anywhere. Theres obviously a fairly major problem in the wiring, and fortunatleyI think with wiring the more major the problem the easier it is to find, I reckon I will be able to sort this if I have a decent wiring diagram. So in preparation for that I blew up the tyres and pushed the car out of the muddy yard where it's been parked ever since I dragged it home, round to the workshop ready for a serious sesh with the multimeter. For that I need a wiring diagram - does anyone have one they can share with me? A PDF or summert from a Haynes or a Rover manual will be ideal. LMK if you can help!!! Cheers Shiters!!!! Coprolalia 1
phil_lihp Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I think I do have a Haynes manual somewhere, bear with me a moment...
Mr_Bo11ox Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 Wow! flippin TOP BOLLOCK!!! I shall print the necessary bit off at work tomorrow. Cheers!!!!
scaryoldcortina Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Sounds like it's lost an earth, there are a bunch of them hiding under the dash.
phil_lihp Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Well done Hirst, I needn't have just gone through my manual photographing the wiring diagrams then!
Mr_Bo11ox Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 'There was a load of earth under the dash, I removed it and now I have no wipers' phil_lihp 1
Mr_Bo11ox Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 Oh I also need 4 wheelnuts if anyone has any knocking about!!!!
phil_lihp Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 There is an L-plate R8 in the yard at an ex-Rover dealer near me disappearing into the undergrowth which they will sell parts off so if you need any bits I can see what's available, last time I saw it it looked very much intact.
lincolndanny Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 This is just the ticket we need on 'ere at the mo. Some Bol Rover Xmas TINKERINZ SHENANIGANS!!! beko1987 1
JohnK Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Yo Bollox, I've still got the squashed KJ 216 here; different engine obviously but there's plenty of other bits interchangeable.
sloth Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 was gonna say, its lost an earth. try cleaning the battery terminals first. sounds obv. but its suprisingly common.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 Yo!!!! I used Waitrose's wi-fi to download that R8 electrical manual today, but annoyingly it is a 1992 one with no mention of the old 5AS immobiliser set-up so I am still on the lookout for exactly the right one if anyone has any tips. I reckon a later 200/25 manula will give me the necessary INTEL as well. It did tell me where all the earth points are so i will be checking them VIGOUROUSLY however. Dick Cheeseburger 1
cobblers Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Yeah it sounds like the main battery to body earth is gone but the engine to battery earth still is there which would be a strange thing to happen and probably more or less impossible on some cars. It's probably not that tho but it's deffo likely to be a biff earth somewhere.
phil_lihp Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Do you want the wiring diagrams out of the Haynes manual?
Mr_Bo11ox Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 i think I'm gonna say no thanks Phil_Lips, I reckon between these two I should have the job covered!!!! I will study them and print out the relevant bits at work. I dunno when i'm gonna get time to sort it like but might just get lucky and duck out of work 'on the dot' one night. I need some flippin progress on these shit heaps or I'm gonna drive myself mental AAAARRRGGGHH
dollywobbler Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Can you not just try attaching a jump lead to the negative terminal, then trying a few different places on the body to temporarily bodge an earth?
phil_lihp Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I'm looking forward to seeing evidence of the SEi running, the build-up has been tense!
Mr_Bo11ox Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 To be fair I did try to start it with a shitty flat-as-a-pancake battery and then a set of jumpleads off to another massive badass battery. For all i know the jump leads could be Uncle Bucked although i think there probably is more to it than that seeing as absolutley NOWT works on the flippin car. I promise to make a less half-arsed effort next time!
RobT Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 All I'll say is it's good to see you back Bo11, grappling with this and the Laguna shite. I'm sitting on my arse doing nowt with my stuff these days, so must try harder!
