Fly screens: would they work on a Vespa PX over long distances?

I don't fancy a full screen as I don't really like the feeling of looking through plastic, does a short version provide any benefit?

I had a Rickman screen on my 110cc Cub commuter hack, which had been cut down so you could see over it. I found it a great help in bad weather; it kept the wind and rain off your front, and your gloves didn't get quite as wet as it covered the handlebars.

^^ Was that the one Frank Westworth (or whatever his surname was) was the editor of? Think I bought a few of the early editions, another attempted clone of UMG but with classic twist.

My Mrs has ridden one of these to work for a year now,its one of the last being from 2003.I've had to change a rear tyre, and fix a few cracked plastics when she came off it.

The night before the mot it suddenly wouldn't do more than 20mph and took its time getting there, spent all night doing the usual, casrb off and cleaned 3 times, changed plug, even took the exhaust off to see if it was blocked, nothing.

In the morning with 20 mins to spare I snipped 1/4" off the end of the plug lead, fixed!

All the flexing and age meant there was barely any contact between lead and cap.

I've been back at it today... the mechanical bits are all back together again, after some fairly rudimentary painting. The tyres aren't rock 'ard or cracked or anything, so they're staying. I blew them up today and they seem to hold air, which is always a bonus:

In the spirit of spending nothing more than needs to be spent, I bodged the snapped rear indicators with self-tappers, Araldite and electrical tape:

Jobs happening soon - the centrestand is bolloxed. It was rusted solid; in order to retract it we had to lay the machine on it's side while Joe twatted it repeatedly with a lump hammer, so as you can imagine it meeds a bit of TLC.

and the last really important bit to sort is this mess:

That's not brake fluid all over it, but 2-stroke oil! Which is good, because that's probably what stopped the caliper from seizing. A thorough clean and some new pads and fluid and we'll be as good as gold!

Coincidentally I'm having pizza for tea, feel like I've earned it!

Frank Westworth ran the Used Bike Guide (and was also responsible for ruining the UMG after Bill Fowler sold it), although he may have also run this title. I've never seen the Classic Bike Guide before, maybe it wasn't very long-lived?

New tyres 281 miles ago.

Hole right in the centre of the rear & utterly flat :( looks fixable though, I'll find out in the morning.

Ah, that was it, knew there was another title out there that was basically a copy of the UMG format but toned down a bit.

Yes, UMG was crap once Fowler sold up - I stopped buying it (presumably he moved to his beloved Thailand??? Anyone know where he is now?).

Sadly not. If he was to make a comeback I might consider buying a bike mag for the first time in 15 years or so.

Never broke a Honda yet done well over 200k on them

Not trying hard enough. ;)

My mate bought a brand new CB Two-Fifty in 1997. Religious oil changes by himself every 1800 miles and a gearbox bearing broke up at 29k and took the rest of the engine with it. Honda didn't want to know, even though still in warranty and replacement engine = same price as a new bike. He rebuilt that one and bought a couple more of them and put well over 100k on each of them. As there are FA 250s around now, I think he bought a Suzuki Inazuma 250 recently.

Another mate had a gearbox go bang on a NTV650 around 50k.

I myself have blown up a H100SD. Melted a piston on the M9 around Stirling.

They are better than the rest though (well except the old chocolate-cam VF750, those cams may have not been as chocolatey as their reputation, but they are rather shite)

That's unfortunate honda used to be ok with warranty stuff, I think it may boil down to how interested the dealership is.

I found Kawasaki ok with warranty stuff. I had frame powder coated because the paint was flaking after a relatively short time.

Dealer did it all - ride in ride out ( several weeks later but with a loaner )

I bet someone cursed every moment of that!!! I'm surprised they didn't just supply a new bike

Multibike policies question.

My classis bike policy with footman james is due for renewing but this year i've made a few changes and its gone up £80 to £250 for 13 bikes and they made a bit of a song and dance about how they don't cover Trials bikes while being used for trials, oddly they never mentioned it for the last 13 years. the newest will be 1988

Its a ball ache giving 13 lots of details ringing round getting quotes, does anybody have any recomendations for other brokers i can give a try.

I'm going to give Peter James a try tomorrow when i've got an hour spare.

TBH I've probably ridden 50 miles in the last 5 years but its nice for everything to be covered in case of fire or theft.

All I can think of is to call insurers and send a email list of the vehicles for their consideration and to phone you back.

I find it a pain reeling off details for only four vehicles.
