I want an old 2wd Ural as a winter car & I've never tried a combo.

I've never had the chance to have a bash at one of these things. It's something I'd like to try and if not master, then be capable on but don't know anyone that owns one.

I've been shopping for a new bike since I gave up on and sold that Gilera moped.

I'm after something deeply unfashionable and cheap to insure in the 400-750cc sort of range.

CB500, GS500, NTV, GSXF, that sort of thing.

Some of the things I've been watching on ebay seem to be going for far more than I think they're worth, £500+ for stuff with no test that needs work.

Are they just worth more now because twats are making them into cafe racer type things?

Anyway, if anyone has anything for sale shout up, would like something not too far from the road but also don't want to spend much.

Pre-Diversion Yamaha XJ600 probably remains the least fashionable bargain in the 400-750 class. If you're prepared to go a little bigger then the pre-Diversion shaft drive XJ900 or even FJ1200 can be mega bargains.

Y no NTV?

This is local and I might go and have a look, would have thought you could get it for £500, bin the broken fairing and you're away?

Not riding tomorrow. 200 miles today was enough. It was work so lucrative as it’s a weekend.

Snowing this morning, laying quite deep on the garden and verges, but the road to the MOT station clear and oddly dry. Two bikes sorted-everyone else had rung and cancelled so able to do mine one after the other.

I need some help with the plumbing on the gs650 carbs.

The carbs were off the bike when I got it and I had to clean them up and replace lots of parts. There were no fuel hoses with the bike.

I know where the inlet from the tank goes, but what are these two T pieces between carbs 1 and 2 and between 3 and 4? Overflow outlets? Or do they just connect to each other to balance the pressure?

And what about this wee outlet/inlet?post-5582-0-65587300-1521397403_thumb.jpg

Arent those air inlets so the top of the CV diaphram gets atmospheric air pressure? they usually have a small air filter on them to stop muck getting in.

not sure about the brass inlet though.

I've just checked in my OEM GS650 workshop manual... annoyingly, no mention is made of those items.

That being said, IIRC the T pieces are overflows. And could the brass inlet be the connection for the fuel tap vacuum?

Thanks for looking John, I have a downloaded version but it was no help.

I think tank tap breather is a good shout though.

Any southerners after a cheap bike?

Seller offered me this for £330, someone else clicked BIN for £350 while I was deliberating but surprise surprise, the seller is getting messed about.

Seems like an honest thing, pretty much 12 months test. I have just agreed to buy an SV650 locally otherwise I would be on it.

Still is, the seller still has it and is being messed about by the £350 "buyer"

Let me know if you're keen, think the shiply to Huddersfield for it was about £110, maybe not much more to you?

Hmmm, very very tempting.

Ohhhh, so tempting Dave.

Im in the throws of trying to buy my lad a car though and Ive just got that moped off Strangangel (mind you that can go...)

Wasn't sure whether to post this here or in Stupid Question Amnesty...

A couple of times lately I've had what the pharmacist thought was a severe hay-fever attack, with red and itchy eyes.  It lasts a day or so then clears.  I've finally figured out that it's always happened the day after I've ridden the moped.

I didn't ride for a couple of years so my helmet was been stored in a cupboard - inside the flat, not damp.  Has anyone experienced their helmet going off to the extent that it irritates your eyes?  It looks absolutely fine.  Could this be the issue and I need to buy a new one, or is it psychosomatic?

Most odd.

I guess it’s possible. Give it a wash and see if that helps. Mine has a removable lining and I wash it when I’m in the shower with shampoo.

Sorry to put that image in your head

I've arranged a couple of runs in early April.

Only problem is the carbs are on the bench, the brakes need rebuilt, front tyre replaced, starter solonoid replaced, new battery, oil change and an MOT.

All stuff I planned to do over winter and didn't. Fuck sakes.

I've also seen an early (1983) VF750F on local gumtree. It might sound salty at £900 but it's on the road and comes with a spare bike....but I'd have to do all of the above and sell the ZZR first.

I have probably posted photos of my sidecar before but here it is again. With the long suffering Mrs Doug.

I bet it's bloody terrifying in a side car!

No removable liner, but I might have a go at washing out then letting it dry really thoroughly. I'd rather not have to replace it just because it's dirty, they're not exactly cheap.

Removable liner on the next one though!
