Dave's EBay adventures

Right, my sodding Buick has, in the last week required a set of tyres (£125), alternator (£88), centre silencer (£10), never mind the PAS rack springing a leak and the front section of the exhaust blowing out on the A5 today. And its doing 16mpg!! Time to replace methinks! Damn modern cars.

So i've been taking more than just a mild interest in the powder blue Plymouth Valiant on eBay. In fact so much interest i've sent an offer to the seller and i'm currently praying it gets accepted! £38 train fare to Frome via Brum and a 3 hour drive home, sounds easy!!

The wife is taking it very well, a little too well.....

I even watched Duel earlier. Think i've got an A-body crush!

Posted

That should easily crack 19mpg and thus pay for itself in less than 1000 years

Any chance of a link or a picture?

Posted

Yeh a link would have helped!

Thanks muchly.

19mpg will do for me, i only have a 12 mile round trip to work1

That is SWEET. I wouldn't piss about lobbing an offer in, just give him the full whack or you'll kick yourself if someone else does.

Posted

I Know, i'm being a total fanny about it. I chucked him £1800 and bearing in mind i've drunk a box of Coors i'll sleep on it before advancing further but yeh its a bloody steal.

Posted

Oh you must, Dave! That's lush!

*I might be slightly biased...

Indeed, £125 for a set of Buick tyres makes me feel hard done by when I've just parted with £166 to get a set of Tigars on my Proton Persona;

(worth every penny mind, transformed the road holding and then some)

Posted

Are you Dennis Weaver in disguise?

If your offer is accepted does this mean you will be antagonising the drivers of petrol tankers into chasing you?

Posted

Chasing petrol tankers would be more like it...

Haha, good one, never heard it before while ownig a yank.

What could possibly go wrong? it seems those slant 6 engines have a reputation for being nigh on indestructible and not too juicy either. looks very smart.

Posted

Because of Duel I've always loved these, I'd say go for it!

Just check those radiator hoses though! ;-)

What a lovely, honest looking car. Noticed this a few days ago and liked it then. Seller sounds very sensible too.

I agree with Cavette, looks worth every penny.

Posted

Well if you do buy it just keep an eye on the rear view mirror. You don't want this looming into view

Posted

Ownin dat truck would be fuckin pimped out. I would drive it like a right playaaaaaa, much like tha playa outta Duel.

Da hoopty do look aiiight fo' realz. Is they as slow as tha one up in tha film?

Posted

That is delicious, reminds me of my old powder blue 1964 Rambler American 440 with a straight six. Go for it ! :D

Posted

Just emailed the seller to say I'll give him the two bags if he can pick me up from the station and if I can collect next week.

Fingers crossed!!

(Also I'm hoping the bank manager likes shitty old yank tanks!)

Posted

Top bombing. It'd be criminal to let that get away, especially for that price.

Posted

Hmm, had two offers made on it. Looks cool, has go go black though. Looks like a Vauxhall Viva on steroids at the front if you squint hard enough, prefer the styling of the back end, very, very neat indeed. Bargain motor.

Posted

One offer is me for £1800, the other is probably one of the usual eBay "50 qwuid turnite m8" group

As the owner of a 67 Dodge Dart I can vouch for the longevity of the slant 6.

and if you need help with shipping parts from the US then I can probably help if they won't ship internationally.

Magic..... been reading yrr links to the Car forri. To be able to ask a question about some obscure bit, to swap/fit/rebuild/alternative P.No or opinion of benefit and get someone come on and tell you [not then to get 6 KbWarriors diluting the thread with argument] is a real pleasure. I have tried to put info into the Proton Forum, factually based with detail and information on sources of bits, which might allow people to get an 'alternative part' - cheaper/non-stealer - and keep on the road.

It is a very smart looking car, myself and a mate were discussing it last night actually. They are a reasonable size for our roads, get decent MPG (if that is your thing), have all the key American styling ques, rare on these shores, perfectly presentable at any car show in the country and well provided for by the aftermarket. Could they be the perfect compact 60's yank?

Please don't paint it though, it is perfect as is.

huh..Aussie -Kiwi drag racing racing version wouldnt have a problem with that tanker of amphetamines....

Ooh yes! 8) These are in all the 70s cop shows we know and love so well... it's even the same model (well a bit up the range from...) the one Hutch lands on in the opening credits of Starsky and Hutch! David Soul did say that after doing his own stunts that day, his back has never been the same, so perhaps don't try that at home...

Perfect 70s colour too.

You know you want to Dave, go on... keep us posted!

Ach, that's a shame as it looks really nice. Chicken wire and filler can hide a lot though.

I like those Ford ltd's. It's odd to think that was their equivalent to a Cortina as in it was just a plain jane family car even though it's the size of a medium sized battleship.

Not a happy ending unfortunately, the seller wouldn't tell me about the bodywork or send any extra pics then got shirty and ended the listing. I know it was cheap but not if it was 2 ton of p38! Strange guy.

Found this instead but it's 6m long!
