Anyone wanna buy this old thing? I need to make a bit of cash/space, you know the story.

2.0 HDi 90bhp, 88,000 miles, full MOT, new battery and timing belt, 100% original paint, remote c/l, factory CD changer, air con (no idea if it works, probably not) trip computer etc etc, it seems to be the 'plus model' of Xsaras. No service history but this had been in my family a good few years and has had an easy life during that time. Has been dry stored for 3 years and prior to that lived in France for a few years so has not suffered the british weather. Drives great and everything seems to work nicely. Logbook is in my name and I have a spare key. Basically ready to rack up the miles doing 50+ MPG.

bad points: scuff on a couple of bumper corners, chip in the screen (on the passenger side, not an MOT fail), rear washer jet does not work

I want 700 quid for it so I will ask 795 and let myself get bartered back down to 700. Might PX for something interesting.

Will rustle up some better photos tomorrow when theres some new daylight available!

Where are you on this fair Isle? What is the number on the mot cert, what is your weight on the moon? Does my bum look big in this? Fancy a Px for any other old shit?

This is a bargain, I'm trying to think of a reason that I would need this but at the moment there isn't one. :(

Not much happening with this unfortunately, stuck it on gumtree and have not had a single enquiry strangely. Have some new footage taken today:

What does "overspeed off" mean? Is it something to do with cruise control?

May be a speed limiter setting?? Drove a C4 as a hire car a while ago. You could set a top speed and the car would not go above that limit.

I drove it and set it to 65, then did not tell my mate who drove the car afterwards. Poor Bugger could not understand why the thing would not go above 65, even when revving the balls off it in third.

Nice car by the way.

Cheers

is that a speed warning device you set to say 60 and it goes haywire when you exceed it by 5mph?

/\/\ shucks beaten to it

just go and press all the buttons and see what happens

you had much interest in this car then?

Posted

Absolutely none! I have chucked in on eBay today as a classified though, and had one halfwit ring up with about 5 seconds left on his phone battery so thats a start I suppose :lol:

Seeing it's a Citroen it might just mean a brake lights out or something.

I still can't believe this hasn't sold, it's looks right tasty, who on here was recently asking about a sub £800 diesel motor?

If my c5 fails its mot spectacularly and you still have it then I'd be seriously interested. Lot of car for the money. The overspend thing works my pressing it when you reach the desired speed and it then dings when you exceed the speed.

Consider this a bump - I have no interest in the car but that plastic wood is awesomely bad - almost up to Mk4 Fiesta Ghia levels of poop!

Thats an amazingly tidy and straight looking little car there Mr Bol. I have to say I like the HDi in 90BLH flavour - its quite a robust little donkey

Not in the market for one myself sadly ( I might be if I get the public health inspector job Im after because then I will be racking the miles up big time) but for someone that is a nice little motor. GLWTS and sorry for posting a reply that might have otherwise got your hopes up.

In my experience, Mr_B, 'buy it now' prices seem to deter people on eBay. My own (probably hopelessly wrong) theory is that there's the sort of mentality on there that people want to think they can bid for a bargain. In all honesty a lot of people would quite probably bid past the buy it now price if it wasn't there, it's bit hard to fathom really, but there you go.

Also the tax is a killer, it's mad that even a weeks tax is seen a bonus, I suppose people just want to drive home without the hassle of going to the P.O first. I'd humbly suggest a bidding listing with a reserve and, possibly, taxing the car but mentioning it's available at cost to winning bidder. This can lead to a reluctance to bid from mingebags who don't want to pay extra for the tax of course, but generally I feel it would encourage some more bidding.

Just my personal opinion of course, others are sure to disagree!

Still, the lack of interest is surprising. Maybe the same ad on Autotrader would've seen more action. All I can add is that to the market audience of this kind of thing, the mention that it used to live abroad might scare them off somewhat. I know it makes no difference at all, but they might be scared of unfamiliar paperwork or summert daft, so maybe you could stress that it is, and always has been a UK car, never registered over there.

Also, a quick jet wash under the bonnet and a wipe over with WD40 would make it look as clean as the rest does. Can you tell I'm clutching at straws?

The Xsara was such a pretty little thing, it's just a shame they had to spoil it with this dopey facelift. GLWS et cetera.

I second that I have always managed to sell on an auction and had no interest with BIN. Tax point is valid too even if you offer to do it at buyers expense?

I'd say this is an autotrader car. That's the place people who don't know anything about cars go to buy a car. By that I mean they just want a normal reliable car, they're not bothered unusual, rare or bidding up on a bargain. I think it's only a tenner if the cars less than a grand so not bank breaking.

I agree with cav on the tax too, it's a mental blocker that they can't just drive it away plus it adds 100+ quid onto the purchase price. If you add that onto the price your asking it starts to look a little over priced maybe?

Posted

May I ask an ignorant question without being laughed at? :? Is this a hydro-pneumatic Citroen or a coil sprung one? I couldn't see the tradional green spheres in the picture, but they're tucked away on some Citroens.

For an E'bay ad its too good.

Ive shoved cars on there before, been to the point and honest without writing a novel and its attracted little interest.

Conversely, shite ads, poorly spelt and advertising piles of chimp wank seem to have people crawling all over them.

Thats E'bay for you.

Looks like a really good car for the money, if the steering wheel was on the other side, I'd buy it to replace my parents knackered brava jtd, I'm sure they'd be more than happy with that ! It's exactly the same colour too, must be unique to PSA.

I agree with cort however, I reckon it would do better on auto trader, this is a honest cheap car for people who are not after a bargain or anything unusual, just something solid within their budget to get them from A to B. They'll look at the specs and mpg figures on there and see sense.

Posted

Fair enough chaps, you have convinced me, I'll give it a whirl on autotrader. Maybe put the price down as '£25.00 (real price £795)' like 50% of all the ads on there.
