Second FSO PURCHASE OF 2013

Hey Guys,

Following on from Steve with the 125 save which i am part of ,here was another rescue over Christmas .

This Fso Caro was literally next in line to be Banger raced, the headlights removed in anticipation, logbook sent off months before with a scrap marker against it,severe corrosion to the scuttle,we later found engine is seized ,interior looks like a tramps gusset and where the scuttle has given up it lets in water and i have lake placid in the footwells . .

This little polish shitbag is great and despite not having an awful lot going for it at the moment ,it does have potential and i do not regret saving it.

As most of you peeps would be noticing ,we in the Fso club are finding these Polish wrecks here there and everywhere and are doing everything we can to save them,we know they are Shit, they aren't fast, they handle like a boat and they rust like they were painted with salt water BUT despite this we love them and feel it is important to save them as they are a piece of English heritage in the 80's and 90's .

You would normally see old boys driving them as they part exchanged there mk 2 Escorts or Morris Itals for one of these little beauties, they probably realised not long after they may have made a mistake as their build quality was never great and if they got 8 years out of one they have done so well.

Anyway enough of the talk ,show me the pictures right and shut up Richie,so here you go . . .

So there you have it my Fso Caro 1.5gli

On the plus side ,the rear wings and back arches are solid, sills seem good,we have another new old stock engine for it if this engine can't be freed off, headlights are being sent this month and i have a rust free nose cone which incidentally unbolts.

I am going to take one of the seats to an interior specialist and see what they can do about the rotten old seats,so although this old heap looks bad, there are things being put in place before we can make a start on reviving it.

I also have a polish member of the Fso club uk on the case with a nos scuttle panel so any more updates i will post here for you all to see :-)

Also please ignore the date on my camera,it has been set a day out . . lol

cheers

You guys are officially 'wrong'. However, I have nothing but admiration for how you're saving as many of these things as possible. MASSIVE RESPECT and as with the other I look forward to updates.

May be a silly question but is that some kind of Special edition Allegro there? It actually looks like an Innocenti Regent a bit.

Posted

Well done, you must be officially bonkers.

How do you go on getting it back on the road if it has a scrap marker against it though?

Posted

Is there some kind of contest as to who can find and rescue the most fucked Polish shitbag?

Posted

You lot ROCK

I seem to recall seeing that Aggro before - isn't it some kind of weird "mark 2.5" or something?

Posted

No guys,we gave up having a contest when Steve bought his Pick up lol,he wins hands down every time!,in fact so much so we use it as a bench mark,if it is worse than his Pick up it is well and truly fucked and not worth bothering with lol

The Allegro in the pictures behind is a little freak of nature actually.

It is a Belgium built Austin Allegro 1500 special that was made in 1981 and then exported back to the Uk and registered in 1982 but on an X plate which anyone in the know about Allegros will know 1979 the Allegro became series 3 with black big bumpers, new dashboard, body kit on the front and plastic wheel trims.

My car is weird that the heel board is still on passenger side, vanity mirror on drivers side, she has the twin headlights and special wheels and trims,so converted back to rhd at some point.

She has only covered 30.000 from new and is next in line for love and attention ready to be sold on this year . .

cheers

Insanity. I've really got no excuses for not resurrecting my BX estate which has a piddly little bit of rot. I might tax it tomorrow.

Posted

Go for it Ian,i absolutely adore your bx estate, wanted a mk 1 estate for years but never lucky enough like you! major green eyes lol

Mr Lobster, i spoke to DVLA and told them my problem, they said because it has a marker by it but no certificate of destruction from a breakers yard i can get a new logbook,i had to fill in a v62 with all the chassis number and details,my name and address plus £25,they then would send a letter out to confirm chassis number and you send the letter back with a prepaid envelope then once received they issue a logbook allegedly :-)

What a shed! Top bombing sir. Hat doffed.

I did forget to add what an utterly miserable looking purchase that looks. Well done.

When not working on cars what do you do in your spare time? Stub fags out on your balls and watch the same episode of songs of praise over and over and over again? They are the only 2 things I can think of that would be more painful and boring as driving a fleet of FSO's.

That scuttle rot looks quite scary. Are there any panels available for these? If not then I would be looking for a donor car to cut the scuttle panel from, looks a nightmare to try and fabricate.

Also - plastic sill covers? :?

Cap doffed sir, you are a braver man than I am (and I'm quite brave when it comes to resurrecting hopelessly rusty wrecks!). :D

I'd be popping down to the scrapyard with a tape measure to find some new seats, they look fairly generic so you should be able to find something cheap and suitable.

Posted

Well the good thing is Mate, panels are available in Poland and we have some fantastic Polish members in our club who go home regularly.

One of them has found a new scuttle panel for me i am just waiting now to see how it gets on :-),i know it looks real bad but CyanideSteve has seen it and he isn't run off screaming,he thinks it is fairly straight forward to repair, doors can be obtained from Poland too ,we have a good nose cone and headlights on there way.

I could probably find seats to fit but i am trying to keep it as original as possible,it will probably cost loads more to have them reupholstered but i will have to do it unless i can find some good ones from Poland.

Worst scenario is we will plan a trip to go there and come back laden with FSO spares from breakers yards as they are still quite popular over there :-)

cheers

Jesus Tapdancing Christ that's a rotten bag of misery. Respect.

There's a joke in here somewhere about how you can't Polish a turd, but I'm too dumbstruck to work it out. Good luck with the restos...

Thanks Skizzer,

It does look bad at the moment but it is cool and do-able and once the scuttle is done it will be so much better for everyone to see and not think it is a total shitter lol

cheers

Don't get me wrong, it's the gap between your skills/bravery and mine that has struck me dumb rather than the shittiness of the car! It already looks massively better for a wash

Keep us posted on progress...

good on yer for saving em - I get critised for the Mitusbishi shite I have and if I had room i'd try and save em all. Your one up on me though in that you have a club that caters for em and the spares. I think a Mitsubishi Lancer club (pre evo shite) would constitute a membership of 1 (me!!)

Good luck with the rebuild and look forward to the updates. If I see any on my travels i'll let you know...

I can understand that Skizzer,it does look a bloody sight Mate and if i didn't know the people i do i probably wouldn't have touched it with two shitty sticks But i have looked in to panels available and spoke to people that are confident enough to repair it and so far everyone has been really helpful and positive about the old girl.

Also the trouble we have is being as such few Fso's are left in UK we can't be choosy really.

We have seen pictures of another project but it has rotten so badly on every panel that it probably won't be savable ,so can't save them all . . .

cheers

Thanks Anglevan,

I have been so so lucky that in the past two years i have found other FSO fans and we have formed a good club,we now have some Polish members who have been a total Godsend for parts because if it wasn't for them we would never have half the spares we do!

No parts means no cars on the road either! lol

cheers

Was that a For Sale sign in the window? Some one may have it tucked away somewhere.

Yes, about £500 IIRC but this photo dates from 2008 - I did however see it until last Septemberish time.
