Pillock's Photo Pickings

To balance out the evil of spam, I've just been through all my old cameraphone spots and organised them so I can post to here. I'll try to remember details about each one but some of these go back years, I snap the shot and then never think of doing anything with them!

IMAG0002.jpg

What's this, I keep thinking Rickman? The badge was too worn to read. This used to turn up most days at work but has been absent for a while, this photo must be 18 months old.

P2020005-1.jpg

This winner used to have all kinds of crap but the two ice cream vans on the drive were a permanent fixture. I think the CF was engineless.

P2280086.JPG

Ooops.

IMGP6106.JPG

Went to watch the rallying, this was parked in the carpark. Looked mint, not sure how much fun they are to drive though. Be nice if it had a 1.9 GTI engine to go with the wheels?

IMG_20111216_131439.jpg

Another work spot. This regularly caused lollage but has also been recently absent, I can only hope it went over the (fibreglass) bridge.

IMG_20111127_145150.jpg

Piazza, Charlie. Piazza.

IMG_20111105_133200.jpg

Can anyone recognise this from a moving, wheeliebinned shot?

IMG_20110604_120717.jpg

Very smart daily driver

IMG_20110521_113845.jpg

Just up the street from the Saab was this Pug, don't remember seeing many back in the day in anything but dark shades. Local reg, I really want this to be a one-owner-from-new job.

IMG_20110318_142537.jpg

Can't remember if I posted this before, Mr A Ross has seen this in the flesh and recalled it from elsewhere. Being used as storage in this pic, it went onto the back of a recovery truck a few days later hopefully to start a more productive life.

IMG_20110205_120343.jpg

Very smart, sounded gorgeous too!

This set was taken at a (long) disused filling station just up the road. Efforts have been made to obscure the plates of the older stuff but he seemed like a proper Escort pervert, with Mk1, 3, 4 and 5 being accounted for. He came out to mutter something at me as I took these - fair play, I was on his land - but also didn't like the idea of me being stood on the pavement either.

20120619_124725.jpg

I was going to crop this down but the lineup amuses me so I left it wide. Hunter absolutely dwarfed by the Superb next to it, I imagine the target audience of both these cars at launch was the same - executive and/or fat bloke.

Thats a bond Equipe.

Great photos. That Scamp thingy is well cool.

And t'interweb agreed that it was a Rickman.

Nice spots 8)

The Hunter looks like a brave hero in a future world of mutant monsters.

Posted

Nice spottage, I was going to say, isn't that a Rickman Ranger?

Scamp thing added to "want" list.

Posted

Yep, that first one is a Rickman Ranger, built on RWD Escort oily bits.

That's a nice selection you papped, thanks for sharing them (at last!). Where abouts are you Pillock?

Posted

I'm wondering what the red van is. I thought Ford A-series, but I'm not sure.

Posted

Thanks for the comments. ... I think I remember snapping another Rickman actually so I'll dig that out and see!

Krujoe, I'm near Leicester but due to the age of the pics most of them are Mansfield way, where I lived till last year. Some will be Newark which is where I used to work full time and still do occasionally. The Hunter was Coalville, a relatively new spot.

Have some moar:

20120711_150035.jpg

Daily Driver Dolly. I was at MAX ZOOM hence the poor picture but it looked a nice example.

IMG_20110906_143159.jpg

Slightly further away from home, this Praguian Skoda was a pleasing shade of non-colour and had quite a weird grille - Czech version of Richard Grant Accessories, or did they get a facelift after abandoning Blighty?

20120708_111820.jpg

This chap was had made the "posh shopping" vs "nice car" choice and got the CORRECT ANSWER. I assume so anyway, since this was parked outside Aldi. Budget with style, my friends.

20120603_085405.jpg

Apparently in Reading, this is acceptable transport for going to McDonalds for breakfast. Don't blame him for not taking it through the Drive-Thru though. It was parked next to a bunch of generic VWs clearly on their way to a show but this was the only thing that caught my eye - such is the VW scene.

20120805_162142.jpg

I think this was at Wicksteed Park - although it looks at first glance like some sort of show going off, it was just plonked in a carpark. Very tidy and in a great colour.

20120711_124240.jpg

Dumped by the side of the road in Derby, really not sure about those wheels.

20120614_135437.jpg

Another OMG OLD CARS ARE TINY shocker. But seriously, check the Mini out compared to the... erm..... thing parked two spots away. The thing that's struggling to be in just one space!

20120603_125718.jpg

Last one for now, and another carpark spot. Looked properly used - little rust blebs, dents and missing trim all added to the character. Is M reg quite late? I recall seeing an N reg on the road but they seemed to be rare by this point, although part of my brain recalls Renault selling the 5 alongside the Clio for a while, like they sold the "old" Clio alongside the new one and targeted it at stoodents.

Posted

Yes, the first Clios are over 20 years old now, so just creeping onto the classic insurance radar.

The Green Goddess (?) is an epic spot in that setting. Top tat-papping!

Looking at the rubber marks on the ground, was that handbraked in there?

Considering we're suffering from spammage, I thought I'd post some more spots....

20120729_160430.jpg

Lovely old camp tranny (don't google search for that...) in a local footy club carpark. Didn't get any closer as it was lobbing it down with rain and there were some people sat in it!

20120618_131341.jpg

This lurks just down the road from me and looks like it's just waiting for a hiab, sadly. Luckily it's on a busy main road so the chances of it being disappeared are slim but still, I doubt it'll ever move under it's own steam. Window has been open for as long as I've lived here, over a year.

20120901_134423.jpg

Mental note: If anyone attacks us by sea, we're fucked.

20120922_172312.jpg

This hides out at one of our scout camp sites, it's been repurposed as an Internet Bus (for scouts who can't go 48 hours without Facebook....). It looks to have had minimal work done though, especially on the outside that still carries a destination board and an advert for "Drivers Wanted" on the rear.

20120901_134449.jpg

Double-shite-action! These were in the carpark at my local preserved railway, tucked far enough down (along with the Royal Navy Deathtrap above) to suggest they were owned by volunteers rather than paying public

20121103_140625.jpg

Any ideas? Some sort of Japanese K-car, supposedly a minicab! Probably better inside than a 400,000 mile Octavia though.

20121008_131302.jpg

Another one of those Rickman things, this time a little more presentable and being treated to a day out at Fosse Park.

Posted

That R5 have seen that running around, last time going through Southwell. There was an R5 campus N reg often parked up in Tescos in Mansfield, haven't seen that for a few years though..

Posted

Might not be the same one.... that R5 was papped at a multistorey in Reading! If it is though, that's a pretty cool coincidence considering how much I used to drive through Southwell :)

IMGP5063.JPG

I'd be well chuffed if this turned up to assist me, I'd just want to wipe my face all over it

IMGP5059.JPG

No idea. Cartell.ie says it's a "Replicar". I can't tell you how tiny this is, it makes the Moggie in front look like a Hummer.

IMGP5057.JPG

The Moggy in full. Last taxed 10/1993. I bet this looked pretty damn cool back in the day.

IMGP5049.JPG

I would, surely if you were rolling this in the 80s you were clearly the KING of the CAMPSITE.

IMGP5046.JPG

Some more chod. Princess is probably overdue a coat of Parisian Nights Satin Finish and a few laps.

IMGP5045.JPG

Roffles.

IMGP5043.JPG

Badged as a BERFORD but suspect it was just someone monkeying around.

20120901_143658.jpg

This was quite well done and had a rather sweet tale it being owned by a family and them restoring it over a number of years.....

20120901_143646.jpg

But Slotmags will always win the day.

20120901_144956.jpg

Nice.

The 'thing' is a Replicar Cursor, '80s British micro that might has well have a sign on the front saying WHAT IS POINT? Even I don't want one, which is really saying something.

423008590_a25f94fed3.jpg

Looks like a good collection of rotting tin there. I'm feeling the kooped Minor especially, I hope somebody feels some pity for that and saves it. One of the few things I would chop BOND in for is a properly chopped & kooped moggy.... What was the deal, private 'collection', scrappy, banger racer?

Private collection, I think shared between a few people. This was a couple of years ago and the guy in charge of the land has apparently done a bunk so not sure of the fate of that lot.

Thanks. It's always good to get further info as it adds so much more to the pics.

HIDEOUS WHEELS.

Can I borrow this picture for discussion on the Dolomite Club's forum please (with a credit to you and Autoshite)?

Posted

Only if I'm assured I won't get the angry owner of that car calling me bad names, Cavette-style, on the internet ;)

Go for it, if it's any use it was taken at the Shackerstone Festival which was at the end of the summer, in Leicestershire.

Posted

Cheers!

I believe the car was once pretty well known in club circles (pre wire wheels) and was known as LEMONdrop (a name that now seems apt!) :)

This reminds me of a 1960s era NCP car park in Orpington that used to have MINIS ONLY painted in the end spaces as the turn was tight. Done in the days when classic Minis were plentiful :) And people used to adhere to it too. 'They' knocked it down a few years ago and replaced it with a fuggin' Tesco.

That Replicar looks like a Clan Crusader thats been left near the fire for a bit long.

I liked this shot. That's, what.... 60 years of "progress" right there? I know which one I'd be betting on for the next 60 years.

20130210_131738.jpg

I loved this for a different reason. Yes it's a nice car - another one that just sort of disappeared overnight, that used to be everywhere and then just vanished. But more than that - I remarked on it as it went past at a junction and Mrs_Pillock immediately got her phone out and asked if I wanted a picture for Autoshite. Bless. Trained her well!

20130111_085002.jpg

This randomly turned up at work - pretty damn clean! Complete with "Perrys" dealer logo on the bootlid.

20121020_142338.jpg

This was nice, but is it wrong I preferred the Orion?

IMG_20121125_152139.jpg

Huge.

IMG_20121125_151921.jpg

Same carpark, much smaller.

IMG_20120526_172427.jpg

The massive long boot badge always amused me on this, and irritated me in an OCD-style as well. Why was the RS1600i bit not on the left? Grrr. I think this was beaten for length by the "Granada 2.9i Ghia X 4x4" I remember from a Ford CARS brochure.

2010-01-28%252011.36.31.jpg

Another work picture, this one from ages ago but doesn't seem to have been posted yet. Size difference needs no comment.

IMAG0004.jpg

Another from work - it's a tat dream!

20120703_194257.jpg

I'll leave this here even though it's an awful pic - a beautiful brown 924. I say beautiful, it had awful paint and terrible wheels and looked like it was using more oil than petrol, but "eye of the beholder" and all that. Also, the owner was a hard-as-nails karate instructor who had come to the scout group for a demo, and picked on me!

2010-01-17%252015.51.30.jpg

Can't even remember taking this, or where it was!

IMG_20121125_132224.jpg

IMG_20121125_132320.jpg

Utter tripe. Can't express how rubbish this was, both as a car and as a replica. Highlights were various emergency measures hidden around the place (bottles of oil and antifreeze, jump leads etc), the insanely poor quality of the "KITT" gear, and the fact it obviously wasn't working at all yet they were advertising it for parties!

That 924 is a 944 btw.

Yes. Yes it is

Anyway, have some more. This edition is made possible in part by Mrs_Pillock, as some of them are shot by her fair hands. You'll notice that hardly any of them were special enough to involve removing my fat ass from the car though.

IMG-20130225-WA0000.jpg

This was being driven at approximately 9.4mph by Vera and Doris on their way to Bingo.

IMG-20130329-WA0001.jpg

Sounded "well used", filled my car with the smells of the 1980s but looked lovely. Is that the original under-bumper area or is that sporting some sort of RGA-like accessory?

IMG_20121119_204528.jpg

All alone in the supermarket carpark

20121030_080601.jpg

Proper camping!!

20120708_111820.jpg

Aldi carpark - well, you have to choose where to scrimp and where to waft around like a winner, right?

IMG_20130328_141614.jpg

Apart from the slightly sad-looking white wheels, I thought this was LUSH.

IMG_20130314_091047.jpg

No idea. Anyone? I remember that the high-level brake light actually spelled out the model of the car, but I've forgotten what that word was. It's an American import I'd imagine - steering wheel on incorrect side plus vicinity to those massive radar BALLS near the M40.

IMG_20130301_201421.jpg

Ford Focus full of hay.

IMG_20130327_130408.jpg

Autoshite-spec RR. It was properly AS colours but my phone decided to take a picture that looks like it was taken at Butlins circa 1970.
