I'm glad people like you exist Steve :D Wish I had the skills/facilities to take on such projects!

Brave & mad in equal measure.

I look forward to seeing your truck progress. :D

Close. It was a Renault 11. View to a Kill.

11 I think, it's from one of the 1980s Bond films, maybe A View to a Kill? Not sure how I know that because I've never seen a Bond film.

Thanks, I have been away from the UK for nearly 2 years now and am loosing my euro spottage skillz

Jesus wept, this is taking shite-ism to a whole new level. You must be completely mental for taking this on and I doff my hat in your general direction.

Couple of hundred quid and a few weekends and you'll be laughing.*

Oops, wrong thread....

You HAVE to make this a camper. like the Cortina "Starcraft" jobbies.

Posted

Truly a cruel and unusual punishment!

Just WTF did you do that this is your punishment? :D

Great stuff to bring this back to life, but I'd definitely support the sills with inner bracing as well as outer.

I would actually do that if I didn't already have my self built iveco camper :D and I will never part with that.

More piccies from today.

Moved the truck outside for a while to give me more room to remove the nearside door and wing. Much easier now the truck is in one piece. I also disconnected everything from the engine and removed the rad ready to lift the engine and box out. Next week I've got a friend helping me remove the windscreen and rear window. I'm pleased with the progress so far and really enjoying every minute of it :D

LOVE the Reg number..... Pee ORF!

I know! Great isn't it.

I was intending to by a reg number with FSO on it, like B19 FSO, which is available, but when I saw it's original reg number I quite liked it

You may joke! I think that one is on the Isle of lewis. I'm going up the with the camper and trailer sometime next year so may come home with it!

I used to run my Ssangyong Musso on veg oil.

Aye it is on the Isle of Lewis, I took the photo. I'm not sure there will be any useful parts 3 years later. :D

You don't sit around do you!

This is officially the best thread of evah, I am loving it!

There were loads of 'RF' registrations about when I lived in Stoke. A Staffordshire number it be...

This thread is wonderful. A restoration of my faith in humanity. VAST quantities of love and care being given to an old commercial vehicle. And a very shite one at that. Good work CS. 8)8)8)

Yep, it was registered in Staffordshire to an owner in Oakham on 30.09.96. It cost £7784.00. I found the warranty book in the glove box but unfortunately it seems to have expired.

Thanks for all the comments. They've made me laugh as they pretty much sum me up!

Hopefully a few of you will see the finished article during next year and meanwhile I'll keep the photos coming of my progress

This is awesome work, as said before you'll spend huge amounts of time on something that no normal person would want anyway.

Say it quietly, but other than when you found it the wheelbase was measured across a right angle, it doesn't look too bad for rust. The awful, fiddly kind I mean. Other than the bit around the top of the door frame, the rest looks pretty straightforward.

But full marks for taking it on, you're a hero!

Not alot to report after this morning as I've been to Machine Mart in Maidstone to buy some more welding wire and gas and a new pair of welding gloves.

I managed to remove what was left of the exhaust front and middle pipe, then went on to unbolt the gearbox crossmember, engine mounts and then removed the master cylinder and servo.

IF we get a dry spell this evening, I'll get the forklift over from the garden centre and lift the engine and gearbox out. It's not looking promising at the moment.

Great progress, I wonder if there would be room for a XuD Turbo unit in there?

Posted

Probably but I'd rather keep it a standard plodder. The gearboxes in these aren't the strongest. My last FSO which I had from new, I did 102,000 miles in four years and it went through 3 gearboxes!. That was only a 1500 petrol.

Posted

I removed all the brakes today and the mudguards.
