The dash at night

I started this thread eight years ago when I had a Rover 75. Sadly the pic links seem all broken...

But I have another 75 so let's go again.

The Acclaim - Adequate but uninspiring.

The Volvo - Subpar, not aided by mine having blown bulbs (Ironically the non-functional fuel gauge is lit up but the working temp gauge isn't)...

Finally, @davidfowler2000's Pug 205. Fucking amazing.

440s seem to be randomly prone to doing that.  The one I nearly bought back in 2003 had gone like that on the speedometer, and a couple I've seen on eBay over the years have done it.

Went out in the Felicia last night and on the way home the rest of the dashboard lights randomly decided to start working.  I love self-fixing cars.

Another 206 I’m afraid.

But I like the instrumentation- in an age where warning lights replace gauges I like the pugs oil temperature as well as coolant temperature gauge. Sad but true.

Here is a 07 GL Merc that I have been using lately. Has quite an array of buttons.

And here is a close up of the dials on my 996.

I took a few more dash at night photos a week or two ago to celebrate getting the heater panel illumination working on the Punto (since sold to BeEP) and the C2.

My old 480 Turdbot did that on the speedo to the point where it wouldn't display over 50mph due it eventually flaking off and jamming the needle.

That can't be a Series 3, the headlights actually illuminate the road.

They've been replaced by (presumably) halogen versions, and a new alternator too - I was pleasantly surprised seeing as I wasn't expecting much!

Scania Omnilink.

Why is the speedo in km? Is that the case in all UK market HGVs/buses?

Posted

Possibly because its a Scania?  I usually drive a Volvo or a Dennis, I'll take a picture next time I'm at work for a comparison.

Analogue tachos always had the KM round the outside and miles inside - presumably manufacturers have just kept up the tradition now everything's digital.

Seems very cold to me...just makes it seem somehow unwelcoming in the dark.  Just my point of view though.

First modern I've seen that doesn't have a rev-meter

Rev counter is of limited use with a CVT transmission I've always thought - there's not a lot you can do to change the revs anyway.

Same as my dad's.  Not a bad steer for a modern.

This was my Dad's until he became unable to drive, so I'm now the custodian. I wouldn't necessarily have chosen it, but it's growing on me.

It's the hybrid, hence no rev counter. The normal pez and derv ones have one.  As wuvvum says - it's of limited use with the CVT-alike transmission.

I wouldn't disagree with that. It's a "starker" blue than say a 00's VW. I really rather liked my Bora - blue gauges, red everything else.

I think the red was what made it work in VWs, if it had all been blue it wouldn't have worked.  It had a slightly violet tint to it as well as I recall so even the blue looked "warmer" somehow.
