I won't weigh in about other British sites, as I lost interest in PH long ago for some reason I can't bother to remember. It's been a jolly good English lesson tho, and I've Eddyramrod to thank for it. At one time, we both had similar 1985 Dodge Diplomats...I bought mine for cheap transportation. But then ga$ went over $3.00 a gallon so I flogged...uh, offed it.

I think the underground mentality found here is unique, in that it's subversive for a good reason. Most folks on here would rather not go into debt on a car; they'd rather find a nice little earner (even if it's shitey!) which presents a challenge. If you can't beat 'em, WHY join 'em, I always say...Although I've yet to find my dream car (1970's Peugeot 504), if I did, I'm certain that it will need a fair amount of work, that It will be impossible to find parts, and that I'll end up poor, broke, and lonely because of it. But I'll have quite a story to tell...GR9 knowing there's a place to tell it!

This. Autoshite is good but could be better with a bit of thought. Also at times it's mind boggling annoying, mostly because people (Inc. me at times) don't always think before they post. Got a joke or something to share that makes you happy? Stick it in the grin thread, something pisses you off? Grumpy thread. And FFS stop relisting the same pissing pictures in the eBay thread. Check the last couple of pages before posting links too.

I find the eBay thread the most annoying because it's the best thread on here and could be even better with the above. Yes, I am a miserable twat but that's life. There's a block user facility, try it, it's great and doesn't half improve reading AS.

 

So is this place utterly fantastic? Is it fuck as like but it's one of the better forums, just don't lie back on a bed of roses and do keep trying to make it better.

This forum has lost a lot of good, interesting shiter characters in the past due to large numbers of utterly shit threads and non-stop moaning and slagging, day in day out about other forums/modern cars/Audi drivers/the public/Iphones/every fucking thing in the entire world. The fact that the GOM thread gets 3 times as much hammer as all other threads added together tells you a lot, folk just can’t help themselves but to sit there banging away filling the forum up with drivel OT opinions about the above. The eBay thread is great still of course, i think that’s what keeps the forum going.

I think it's because on the face of it, it now conforms to a number of stereotypes which didn't exist when I first bought the car about 10 years ago. I could similarly understand someone who used to knock about in aircooled VWs because they were cheap and something different back in the late 90's, but are now a scene thing and worth $$$ and a lot of people just assume they've had a lot of money spent on them. Not the case on mine, just a lot of welding, P38 and sanding.

My first and third cars were Yugo 45as, or rather the second one was a Tempo, which i added bit too like a rear wiper to bring it up to the 45a spec!A 1.3 Montego i had between them which sadly didnt live up to the Yugos reliabilty. Auto choke failed then rear most engine mount broke. But i loved all of them!. You cant really admitt than in other forums!. Long live Autoshite!

Agree entirely - it had exactly the same effect on this BL chod lover, who only really strayed here due to the demise of AROnline's forum.

If you're interested enough, I can find out for you. It won't be very cheap, because it'll need MoT and tax to be registered and exported, then you've got shipping. It hasn't moved in at least three years that I know of, probably quite a bit longer, but as the owner does have his own garage business, at least he can do the work.

One account goes back to the early days but is dormant as I couldn't login and repeated attempts failed to get admin to respond and stuff and ting and the other was created just to get onto the system to sort out the other problem. But stayed like that. Which is excellent.
