I drove an X reg one in about 1994. It was really nice to drive, I really rated it.

 

This one looks the nuts, although I am not keen on the paintwork, its all down to taste. I hope its as good as it looks.

Paintwork is pseudo Audi rally / touring car pastiche. I got someone to look at it for me, and it's spotless. If that was a Mk2 Golf GTi in that condition I reckon it was be over £10k. These things seem to be on the rise, value wise, although that's not why I bought it, it'll be a great advertising tool for our garage ,my oppo has a minty RS6, so they'll make a good pair

Briskly! Goes like a stabbed rat, but still very tractable. Well thought engine mods, dyno'd at 154 bhp at the wheels, which for a n/a Golf engine isn't bad at all. Suspension is firm, without being silly. No power steering, which means that the rack is a bit slow, but that's all that, by choice, I'd change. Paint/bodywork is spot on.

They do go quite well with a little tinkering and I'd have one over a Golf GTI any day.
