boobydoo Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Hmmm...I bet there were some right odd characters walking about there. I have to admit I would have found the Quality Street display reasonably interesting, more so than probably a rusty old tractor , though I would have wanted to chat to the bloke to see what made him collect such oddities, but it sounds like he was not that approachable.
michael1703 Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 I'm becoming a jaded miserable fucker and not wanting to go to any shows, but this thread and barretts bromley pics thread have had me laughing my tits off people at car shows are weird fuckers, you dont always see it when its right under your nose though

Wilko220 Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Thoroughly, thoroughly depressing. I had to look through the first four pages of this thread again just to cheer myself up a bit.
Guest Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Theres some sad sights there Bet theres a few out there who would have restored that p3.
trigger Posted July 25, 2012 Author Posted July 25, 2012 I think the P3 was pretty knackered, The owner was over on facebook saying that you will see it again, and seeing that i was told that it done 2 laps whilst avoiding hitting hit and then drove out the arena i have a feeling it was all done for show and will get restored eventually. As for the P4's and 5's, they were fucked, these are cars that have sat in fields for 20+ years and been dragged out with most the bodywork missing so i wasn't to bothered about them.
Mash Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 There are still a LOT of P4s about and quite a number of P5s too. It's got to be easier and cheaper to go and buy a nice one than bankrupt yourself messing about restoring something that's about had it. It's uber-rare (I mean like single figures) survivors that I don't like to see in this situation.
Spottedlaurel Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 P4s in particular are funny things, I imagine it's only really people who have some sentimental attachment to them who'd really want to buy one, or certainly spend a load of time and money getting one restored. Most of the P5s were pretty rough, I bet they're a swine to restore too. I went along to this too, and stayed for the evening's racing. I think the P3 would have made more of an effort, but it just didn't seem to run right and I think he was a in position to pull off before getting it trashed. Some of the P5Bs sounded awesome. The show was good, not big but good to bump into Trig and one or two others I know. Terry was there in my old brown Starlet. One or two other photos I can add: Vauxhall Chevette Classic Hot Rod by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr This came in/along with a converted Leyland bus of suitable age. Sadly it got involved in a collision, but otherwise the Classic Hot Rods were very good to watch. GMC Chevy Van 30 Camper by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Lots of Dutch people over, with the Cortina meet on at Swaffham the next day. 1983 Ford Granada 2.8iS Estate by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr For sale at a quite resonable £1700-odd as I recall. AnthonyG Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 I must admit, I didn't know that other European countries even did banger racing. A friend had a 1966 Rover P5 3 litre that he got from a breakers for £300. It was superficially good from a distance, but a close inspection proved there was a lot of filler and rot in some hard to repair places like the bottom of the A/B pillars, and . And it needed two front wings. I thought it would end up on the track when Trevor said it was too much to take on, as the leather and wood in the interior needed work as well. It looked a lot like the ones above. It was sold for £350 to an old boy in South Wales who wanted something to restore - 'to keep him busy' as his son put it! - as he had just finished another car.
