True. They are very nicely done but we do pay a bit over the odds here.

Smyths have all of them including the Datsun

Seven quid for a flipping Hotwheels with rubber tyres and slightly thicker card on the back of the pack.

I think that’s where my enthusiasm dies off a bit. £7 is bloody steep. I can’t remember how much Matchbox World Class were but I’m guessing they weren’t three times the price of the regular models. I baulk at £2 for the U.K. Matchbox editions as they cost no more to make. £7 buys something much more interesting and old like a 1:36 Corgi off fleabay.

Here are some recent car boot sale finds.

Let's start off with this trio of Corgi Rockets.

Some lovely bits there - I have a couple of those buggys but one is missing the roll bar, going to try and make one.

The Rockets Cougar is lovely, want!

Matchbox Superfast Mustang is as you say, hard to track down  in any condition. There's a white Superfast too that's seriously rare.

I agree on the quality of the Majorette RR, some of their larger stuff is a bit clunky but they got this one right.

Didn't know the HW tractor was sought after, I got one recently and stuck in back on eBay in a job lot

More recent finds,

Dinky Cadillac, this was tyreless and been treated to a thick coat of red and black paint,a session in the ultrasonic cleaner softened the paint until it was easy to remove.

Its still chipped and scratched but looks quite good now.

Still with its luggage and spare wheel intact, and the little clear plastic cover over the engine, just a shame the paint is scratched.

I have found a white one,but it was heavily played with and repainted blue,so I repainted it white again.

Looks nicely detailed. Annoyingly you can't remove it from the base without dismantling the card fully. I'll do that shortly

Junkyarddog is definitely winning this week, some amazing finds up there! ^

I've just won a Dinky 356 that needs a repaint - great to see the spare tyre and suitcase in the frunk (froot? ) of the type 34 Ghia, they're always missing

That may well be original - I take it it's marked Superkings rather than Speed Kings on the base? The very late ones were sold in a plain blue that's a bit lighter than the earlier cars

I had a very very similar Polistil model but it was marked as a Toyota Celica. I also had a mk1 'Golf'. Absolutely terrible things, what were they thinking? Thankfully both long gone but I do have a set of smaller 1/60 scale cars that are knockoffs of Polistil castings, one of which is a similar Celica. Just when something couldn't get any worse 😅 These are so bad they're good.

Interesting,I though the Brabham would have been stickered up.

The Caper cart I have has an outline of a sticker on the roof, but seeing as they were also available without I'll leave it as it is.

Haven’t had a proper look as it’s going to be sent to Father Christmas first but the Corvette looks like the old Superfast release from the Seventies?

Jada unboxed. Outer detail is pretty nice but the interior needs some work to break up the black

Thanks! Now I don't have the flat roof with its outside view (and we're in the depths of winter), I made use of the light cube thing I got for my birthday. This is how the magic happens:

IMG_8251.thumb.JPG.bf628e99fffc8191c0129ee8cfadf8ae.JPG

The backing sheet needs a bit of tape to help hold it in place, but I can change the light colour and brightness as well as choose a different colour sheet. Could maybe knock-up some sort of garage/building frontage to put at the back?

Any nice abandoned garages or such like in your area? If so, take a photo and get it printed off as a backdrop? Matte coating rather than gloss would help with glare and reflection from the lights but that said, it might be tricky to control, even in your fancy new box!

I'm sure I've got a photo or two of something appropriate, I can take some hints and tips from the lovely little scenes you create.

That's them. I don't have the Escort though, Just the Panda in red, a green Strada, the Celica in gold and a Renault 5 which I lost many years ago.

Posted

There's a bit of a story to those two. Ebay seller had 6 different cars listed, i bid on them all but got outbid on all but two. I posted them on a FB page and the guy who bought the other four posted this pic - turns out the seller had the original box too

FB_IMG_1638947029256.thumb.jpg.71be2afa3888683b1fcf4f2008966a8f.jpg

Why he didn't sell them as boxed i don't know. The Escort still has the maker Kees visible on the base - apparently the original castings were made for Polistil by Kees.
