So if anyone has either a matchbox fiat 131,or the cougar rat rod, dodge dragster, or wildcat mustang in battered but complete condition and would like one of these desirable* cars let me know.

Spares pile is this assortment

Both 131 are unbranded

The yellow one I have had since my own life-size 131 in 1988

The 131s could be Zylmex/Motor Max - got a code on the base like D94?

The SEAT is an Ixo and was sold through DeAgostini in this set

They were a real thing

the 8001 Wings Flying Team and 8401 Wings Flying Club sets. They were all finished in light metallic green with 'Wings Flying Club' stickers

Remember the raging torment a while back on Flying Team sets?

Well, for Corgi's own Flying Club, for some reason I had assumed that the metallic green and the decal on the bonnet/hood as shared

But have all the Lotuseseses got CORGI on the base?

Posted

I have the Lotus, it seemed a thing in the late 70’s to start doing a supermarket special like Matchbox did with the Tesco Mercedes 300SL in the unique silver.

You may remember this Bburago low-loader outfit from Saturday...

977879833_IMG_20210515_1739452.thumb.jpg.630d3171187cd04af3aed6f76def70b8.jpg

What can I say, I'm weak-willed and feeble.

71228674_IMG_20210517_1303312.thumb.jpg.f10960765a65c7cb1acee4231aed95e2.jpg

It's an interesting blend of superior toy/ inferior model, but certainly a very appealing choice of subject.

1344115807_IMG_20210517_1303572.thumb.jpg.7ebbd05837166f53f30c3488a8261e7a.jpg

The plastic flatbed does indeed tilt and slide...

2076859515_IMG_20210517_1304092.thumb.jpg.dbd2a7a79ccf853bb4407b7aba2ba254.jpg

Just a simple hinge at one end, and a peg that sort-of secures the bed into the chunky chassis at the other, to keep it from moving during play.

The box says this is for ages 3+,  but I'm not sure this'd last ten minutes in the hands of a boisterous three-year-old! It feels quite easily breakable.

Casting's a bit rough around the rear window, but the cab's good overall - inevitably the mirrors are pretty simple, but at least there's an effort to include them. Wheels and tyres are true to life.

1553142918_IMG_20210517_1304442.thumb.jpg.b7a4697ca5da574510fd7b3808fede86.jpg

Surprisingly, no manufacturer insignia shown on the truck - but it most closely resembles a Renault Master/ Opel Movano, even if the lights don't seem quite right. It might respond well to detailing, mind.

156183655_IMG_20210517_1305172.thumb.jpg.80d9546837d1d6336a951b169f938932.jpg

Fiat 500 is nicely done from the standard Bburago 1/43 'Street Fire' range, though the detail on the casting is a bit blurry - not sure if it either has very thick paint, or the casting moulds are really worn.  Tampo detail is good, overall.

For the money, it's a nice little set!

Strangely, it looks somehow bigger than 1/43 scale when viewed on its own - but comparison with others indicates that it's bang on.

This is a VW I'd not tracked down previously - Budgie. These are still being made apparently but this is an original, should of course have a fabric covered plastic load cover. I had imagined these to be a similar size to an early Lesney but it's closer to a same-era Dinky or Corgi, about 90mm long

20210517_175749.thumb.jpg.25865680330b9b00fad2ab6a6129f1ed.jpg20210517_175737.thumb.jpg.9628f450426ef6e44c5713e800b0c48b.jpg20210517_175759.thumb.jpg.2f01b9eea6ca9fd8ab1f0b4f8243250e.jpg20210517_175806.thumb.jpg.f71847ce5c83c79ab495c2f3e496d11f.jpg

there are bases with and without "MADE IN ENGLAND", this is the earlier version. I've read they all had silver painted headlights and VW badge but no sign of it on mine

Another Bone Shaker and the Aston Martin One-77

Not sure what I am going to do with them though.

I still can’t see the point of these Hot Wheels ID cars

Grabbed this because ...it’s the Aston Martin One-77, that seems to have missed many modeller lists and the colour scheme looked interesting*

95E8E748-5BD2-42C3-BB0F-7D0E72FA0D93.thumb.jpeg.41c6c92f0aac8928f935f561ab8d1795.jpeg

But what is it I am missing?  Are these some sort of loss-leader marketing by Mattel?  The benefits* seem to be:

1) having a chip onboard that makes it uniquely identifiable...

2) ...but only my their mediocre racing game app that takes ages to load and get going past the menus

3) unless your child has a NFC-enabled device they have to also buy a caddy to allow more than one ‘virtual’ car uploaded to race.  I have two now and but can only play with one.  How many kids have £200 (or contract) NFC devices to run a sub-£8 toy car gimmick?

4) the screen is too small for the game so I thought I’d try it on an iPad.  But OS version says no.  How many kids across the globe have a £200 (or contract) ‘recent’ tablet devices to run a sub-£8 toy car too?

5) the game is rubbish.  It might have parallax-scrolling backgrounds but the gameplay is more tiresome than an 8-bit 1985 game.  Even OutRun was more involving

Not a rant, more of a bewildered observation.  It is of course possible I am showing my age and should stop being grump on a Monday, sat in the pub 😙

I'm not worried about the game, I just like the colours they come in etc, I view them as a premium range of sorts. If I like the casting I'll buy it

There is always the chance that Escort could cure my ‘bewildered observation’!  Wheels are gash though and would do my back-in, if in real* life 🙂

Apparently, Guisval had a similar link-up with Google and an ‘app’ ...that they canned, two years ago..

If only Corgi was still here?  Imagine a Charlie’s Angels van game!  In fact, don’t.  You can’t virtualise Mr Cleemput’s efforts. That would be wrong

Apparently, Corgi are in Lidl right now.

Hmmm... are 'Corgi Chunkies' the new 'Corgi Cubs', which in turn were the new 'Qualitoys'?

Curiouser and curiouser - but I doubt Old Man Van Cleemput would be all that impressed...

I've just been in Tesco.  MB display was looking poor but there was a roll cage down the aisle with a box waiting to be put out.  I may have to go back later or tomorrow.

Hmm, I’ll drop by mine after work tomorrow, I’m not optimistic because there seems to be a massive void in the supply in South Yorkshire traditionally. But if Lady Luck is smiling on us I might be be lucky

Celebrated my first day in the actual physical real-life office in well over a year with a trip to Twickenham Poundland.

Therein, I broke my self-enforced fast from Hot Wheels procurement because this was hanging from the hook. For £1.50. In Poundland. Go figure.

Gorgeous casting, though, and if that colour and trim combo was ever offered on the Prelude in the UK, I'd certainly have plumped for it.20e9ba04740c713caf4ff179e5f61958.jpg
