This morning I turned into exactly what we all hate: those bulky smelly Rudolf Huckers who overpopulate the toy fairs, driving up prices with their British Rail pensions.

Today's Tesco haul.  I cleared out every example I could find of these castings.   Some are ordered but some remain available at cost + post.  Feel free to PM me.

...which is totally different to last year's Super Van

 

Recent discussions about Growlers led me to believe I was deficient in that department. Hopefully this should rectify things

 

Lastly, anyone seen an orange Dinky Volvo 265 before? This one is a bit tatty unfortunately

Isn't the orange Volvo a faded red one?  Might be the light in the photos, it seems the roof and bonnet have less fade, probably due to thickness difference?

Either way it's great and I bet you got it for -99p

The Art Van isn't different enough for me to get excited about 🤷‍♂️  Odd they bothered, of all the things they could have done.  Maybe* there was an argument in the office and they drew straws on who got 2020 and 2021.  One fella called Jack and the other called King.  There are maybe not enough Queens in the HW offices to have an influence. 

I digressed there.

Edit.  Just realised 2019 saw the '56 Ford F-100 in Queen livery

I wish I never found that out.

Now I'm going to worry about  Hot Wheels 'Poker Card' Art Car Range  collecting and will need to complete the deck, or have to make my own substitutes to stop the sleepless nights

I put dot-dash wheels on it in homage to the original, which is a bit of a bloater now I've got them side-by-side

Thankfully I didn't get back into die cast until after they were old stock.

Not interested in any of those really, no appeal apart from KING KUDA and I picked that up last year despite having the much nicer green Red Line 50th Anniversary re-release with the bottle top token thing.

Bit late in from work tonight, but there was a nice package waiting for me,

Bit of a rarity, part of a Walmart-exclusive collection.

Nice to get some carded Merc wagons at last, after only being able to get the green version in a multipack. Narrowly missed out on getting the Target stores exclusive Terracotta red version in the retro packaging too. Grr!

Lovely little 914.

The '96 Carrera is still a fave casting of mine. Those rims look the business on this one.

Another ace new casting. A road version in red or yellow would be most welcome.

And a few more I haven't been able to find in the shops, just to make the weight up. Can't resist the 944...

Some nice stuff there. I really like the understated paint on the 911, the next release in green doesn't work as well for me.

The Datsun is a great casting, got a few different versions of that one (excuse shite pic)

I should unbox the 914 and put it up against the Hot Wheels version

I think the orange ones were assembled in Italy, if memory serves - Polistil were somehow involved, I think they bought the tooling after Dinky went under.

The very last were sold in plain cardboard boxes with no windows; in the mid-90s there were still some unsold stock kicking round the model shop that eventually employed me to work on Saturdays. I felt £5 was too steep for them, so I didn't bother.

That explains the orange one in Spain and I bet @bunglebus orange one has overstamp underneath 'Made in Italy'.

There was no export channel from UK as Meccano Calais and/or Polistil Chiari would have had that cover.  Because EEC.  Probably.

Oh, and the fact that Binns Road was shut.

Interesting bits include no-name Renault 30, which I mistook for a MK1 Passat

Husky Lancia Flaminia, complete with bonnet but missing a bumper corner (TADTS)

Renault looks similar to the Rover SD1 I've got,can't remember the make though 🤔

The Renault is by Giodi Toys, an Italian company which made some pretty 'approximate' budget castings of weird subjects. Probably best known for the Lancia Gamma saloon which I think is moderately collectible as the only period casting of a Gamma. The Renault casting is almost certainly modified from the Lancia as they look nearly identical. They did a Rover SD1, too, which was also strikingly similar
