Just realised one lot of wheels on the GMC cement mixer don't match the others

20201215_121926.thumb.jpg.234bc7b35d2736402ac63409190874c9.jpg

They're on the axle where the drive for the mixer is, but not driven from it - the knurled wheels underneath do that. How odd.

This Majorette van with Cadbury's Creme Eggs livery arrived with the cement mixer. Despite a fair bit of base corrosion it can't have been played with much, as the rear doors are still joined by a bit of sprue

Was wondering that myself - the one I picked up the other week is the same...

Whole axle built-up with the drive cog, separately

Then added from a different pot, at build time

I have a few of those Volga taxis, including one in my TV/movie fleet representing the car Matt Damon steals in one of his Bourne fillums...

Regarding the odd wheels on the mixer truck... have a look at photos of the American prototype.  I think that second axle often wears smaller wheels, and most likely is liftable too, to spread the weight on the road when the drum is full.

Struggling a bit to work out what model it's supposed to be, 1970 7500/8500 seem close

Pretty sure Matchbox were trying to replicate the butterfly hood type

The one above is the predecessor to the short-hood Brigadier that Majorette modelled.

The MB version is the long-hood 9500, replaced by the General.

I spent far too long last night down a rabbit hole full of GMC commercials, all I can say is "Conventional" really isn't the most exciting way to describe a product

Box art shows the drive wheels as being the 5 spokes. Mind you it also looks like the speedy one in the main pic has a set of Moon discs fitted

I'd love to.. As it is the incoming ex-DC Volvo is definitely going to have to be the last purchase for a while. Of course, I didn't NEED a Corgi Sierra last week either and look how that turned out.

I'm too tight to buy this excellent early '70s Mebetoys catalogue on ebay, but helpfully the seller has provded high-res scans of the pages!

s-l1600.thumb.jpg.41cac8d9189e703924dc840c735bc9f6.jpg

I really like Italian diecasts, and it annoys me there isn't an easily accessible source of information about the complete ranges, variations etc. This one must be quite soon after the tie-up with Mattel, which saw a load of odd European cars sold under Hot Wheels branding in the states.

s-l1600-1.thumb.jpg.d8401a551648e1b3722be9ff3494ad54.jpg

s-l1600-2.thumb.jpg.f3663e5e1a3c79350bc1e55b470b2226.jpg

Nice mix of subjects, and these Mebetoys are always really nice castings with excellent detail. The only one I have is the Lancia Fulvia coupe, in box, which is a lovely thing. They also offered a range of 1:25 cars which, when they do occasionally come up, seem typically cheap for that weird, rarely-collected scale. The 128 coupé is particularly nice

I think these might need some sort of straw attachment that you blow through to power them. Seller suggested they're copies of Matchbox

Not bad for 5.99. But I will add some more detail and de chrome the wheels.

Corgi must have cranked out a billion of those but I don't think I've found a police one before

They did crank 'em out by the lorryload, and there's a fair few different Juniors Regal Police versions, too - I know I've had a couple pass through my hands from the tat box!

- Black with white roof (Sheriff)

- White with black roof

- Black and white (some with some lamp, some with lightbar) - probably the most common type

- Blue with white roof (City of Metropolis - Superman)

Also fire chief and checker cab versions along similar lines.

EDIT:

Yup, this one's a veteran of the assorted tat sales - and currently seeking a new home... 😉

I'm amazed they were allowed to reproduce whole swathes of James Bond dialogue verbatim like that. I think we all remember that iconic moment in The Spy Who Loved Me where 007 emerges from the sea and wittily proclaims "It's a good job my Lotus is ingeniousy equipped for underwater missions - with extending hydroplanes, concealed fins and a remote-controlled battery of rockets" whilst tossing a sardine out the window with a nonchalantly-raised eyebrow.

I remember that catalogue well.  Because I had it as a boy
