Datsuncog
Friday it is, and as for tat, well - that remains to be seen... Misty murky morn on the foothills of the Antrim Plateau today. Yes, there should be a very large hill there, but not right now. I made reasonable time butting my way in to the city, and was already skirting the market before 8am... and I noticed a few people duck in through the traders' entrance rather than wait for the front doors. Naughty naughty. And on opening, oh look who's there already... I probably shouldn't get so worked up about it, but then again a spot of deadly rivalry definitely adds a bit of spice to the whole market thing. Nemesis #1 was pissing about with Meccano sets and, incongruously, Royal Doulton 'Bunnykins' figurines. Clearly a man of wide tastes and interests. At least he hadn't swiped a whole heap o' choice diecast, mainly because there wasn't very much there yet. Much of this as per last week... Whizzwheels Pininfarina Alfa P33 concept wasn't in bad nick, and was wearing a price sticker - dunno if Blokey's experimenting with transparent pricing, or if some previous owner put that on. A few paint chips, but probably not an unreasonable price. Spot On haul now down to just the Floride (missing glazing and rear panel), the playworn Big Healey, and the Bullnose(less) Morris. Lesney were all a bit meh - scruffy, and/or a bit too old to pique my interest. The (broken) cutlery caddy of diecast hadn't changed significantly from last week - Maisto pull-backs, Bond reissues, Days Gone buses and some far-east toy weirdness. There was also this... Someone will probably give him £30 for the 1/18 Sun Star DeLorean, but it probably won't be me (unless someone here fancies it?) Bachmann rolling stock took me right back to my model shop days. Not normally my bag, but this OO scale Leyland in Ulster Transport Authority livery did nudge me; my family has historic links with Inglis' Bakery too... doubt it'll be on the stall long. But that was pretty much it for Market Blokey this morning - no tat box, and not much else. I swung by Paddy's stall, just to visit really. Maisto and Days Gone - check. All the same stuff that he's had for weeks, with nothing sold - check. Corgi Buick that's quite a bit worse than the boxed one I procured, yet also somehow more expensive - check. I think we can move on. Unfortunately, neither Alan's Emporium nor the Charity Stall had much in the way of diecast showing, but then they were still kinda setting up. So I hopped off to grab a coffee, and tap out the story so far while gazing at the traffic outside the law courts. And now... back in for Round 2? RoadworkUK
If that DeLorean is box-fresh, it's probably well worth £30 .... and I'd actually put my hand in my pocket. Not sure if that's a patch of missing paint on the roof, though. Probably a bit of a ballache to ship from NI, though. Actual eBay sale values are extraordinarily varied, but the non-time machine variant seems in rather shorter supply than the Mr Fusion-equipped varieties. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=sunstar+1%2F18+delorean&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&rt=nc&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1 Datsuncog

Datsuncog
Ding ding, Round 2 then... First stop was Alan's Emporium, now replete with his usual funky mix of brass ornaments and wooden boxes. I had to stifle a scream into my mask, as I saw a child digging through the box of diecast previously seen last week. Imagine. As it happened, he must have had good taste as he didn't buy anything, even at three for a pound - and neither did I. Mostly no-name tat, with some abused Lesneys and ropey Corgi Juniors that didn't much float my boat this morning. Aer Lingus version of that pirated Tomica Toyota airport truck amused me slightly, though. Feeling strangely unfulfilled, I moseyed over to the Charity Stall, which was now looking a bit more tidy. This tinplate double decker bus was new: Not quite my bag, but a jolly big thing anyway. No maker's name, but nicely done with a pressed interior and everything. This was also fresh in - a huge, unbranded diecast forklift truck with the steering wheel operating the rear wheels. Fork loader and other bits of mechanism were gone, sadly. I've no idea who made this one, but there seems to be a UK spec number plate on the back, so I'm thinking a domestic manufacturer - maybe DCMT Crescent or someone like that? My initial glance into the Charity diecast crate was perfunctory; there's been nothing new in there for a month now. But, looking past the Tonka, Buddy L and Lone Star... Well, they weren't there last week. Lesney Superkings Bandolero in Fire Chief get-up, and a Dinky Alfa concept car, sadly missing its rear cover and showing evidence of a repaint. Also a Dinky Lunar Buggy, sans astronauts and also a front wheel. But digging deeper, there were things worth considering... And I managed to turn up some quite interesting stuff. Clutching a now-bulging carrier bag, I took a swing past the Tat Stall, to see both the UTA Leyland bus and the Sun Star DeLorean were gone. Such is the power of a local link. Nothing else had appeared, although the stall was looking a bit more tidy. While having a hoke, I inadvertently pressed the headrests on the Bond Z3, unaware that this launched a pair of spring-loaded rockets from behind the headlights... It took me a few minutes to find them on the floor, about twenty feet away. Not my finest moment. I could've put someone's eye out... But with nothing else to titillate, and aware of the working day bearing down on me, it was time to scoot home... Pics of today's haul to follow! andrew e, junkyarddog, eddyramrod and 8 others 6

Yep, you're right - the paint was fine on the DeLorean, as the plastic strip is one of those made from the same floppy plastic as window-cling stickers - it's just suckered on to the paintwork in a few spots, giving the impression of dark spots/damage. I figured it was certainly worth the asking, but the size/ relative fragility kinda put me off buying it to resell... No doubt I'll regret that soon enough! Out of my hands now, though. And now... Datsuncog
So, this is what I nabbed from the Charity Stall... 70s Corgis - the Daimler Scout Car, Ford D-Series tractor unit, and Duple Vista coach; all in fairly good nick. All available at £1 each. ***DUPLE COACH CLAIMED!!*** Moving on to early Matchbox Superfasts: No.63 Dodge Crane Truck; No.21 Foden Concrete Truck; No.7 Ford D-Series Refuse Truck. All complete, and in reasonable fettle - and available at £1 too. ***ALL THREE CLAIMED!!*** On to slightly later 70s and 80s fare, then: Rolamatics No.39 Clipper; Streakers No.27 Lamborghini Countach; post-Lesney Rolls Royce Silver Cloud. Again, not mint but pretty good overall. Clipper and Countach are up for grabs at £1 each; the Rolls Royce has a few paint flaws but is nicer than my scruffy childhood example, so I'll be holding on to that one! Now, here's where it gets good... Yup, some early Convoys, from 1982. And they're pretty clean. First up is the CY-8 Kenworth cabover box truck, in Redcap trim; then the CY-6 Kenworth conventional Horse Box. Then the CY-7 Peterbilt Tanker, and CY-1 Kenworth Car Transporter. Distressingly, any chipping on these looks very fresh. I'm going to guess they were mint until they were turfed into the tat box... gaaaah. I can remember receiving the Convoy Transporter for my fifth birthday from a girl called Laura for whom I had quite a soft spot. I should dig it out later for a comparison... I never really collected the Convoy range deliberately, but I really should have done - I was obsessed with films like Convoy, Smokey and the Bandit, and Duel. Maybe time for a retrospective on this range? I'll be keeping the trucks for the time being - but when it's time to move 'em on, I'll be sure to let you know. And lastly... Yup, a Corgi Buick Riviera, with some hot Trans-o-lite action going on. I previously had the pale blue Gift Set version which I sold on, but this is very nice despite some wear and pilfered tyres. Y'know, I might hold onto this one for the time being too - and add some more tyres on to my next Steve Flowers order. ***DIBSED FOR THE FUTURE*** So there we go - I handed over £20 for the lot, which isn't maybe the bargain of the century but seems fair. That works out at a quid each for the small stuff, £2 each for the Convoys, and £3 for the Buick. While I'm happy to sell some of them on if anyone wants them, today I basically just grabbed the ones that appealed to me. They were somewhat filthy, so I ended up giving them all a good scrub with my trusty toothbrush when I arrived home, and they're looking much better for it. Also because I spilled coffee all over them. Hey ho. But good to see that the market persists, despite everything else happening in the world. Til next week!! Split_Pin
I remember very well the Supergas tanker and Kenworth - hauled transporter from my childhood. I recall the latter was quite flimsy and didn't stand up to my rather rough play as a 4 year old. The Kenworth is long gone but I still have the tanker, although the pin on the trailer broke off long ago. Matchbox made some brilliant truck toys in the 1980s, both in Convoy form and Superkings. Mainly robust and loads of play value. As the 80s progressed they got a little more relevant to me with the introduction of the likes of the DAF 3300. I have a really nice DAF Convoy in TNT livery in the loft. Burnside and Datsuncog
