Shite in Miniature II

Some lovely little cars there, I do like the charm of the early Matchbox and I have a few, but I remember playing with 70s-80s releases (with some older regular wheels), so these have the most nostalgic appeal to me.

Like this. I know the colour isn't right but it's come out well and the dags look happy in the back. There's a crack in the screen which I think may have happened as I was getting the old brown paint off

this is a miniature of the same body style as my Corgi Velox.

DSCN8581.thumb.JPG.b9fa780c914e86f38885d7143fdf1329.JPG

so i can only assume that the name is more like a  trim level rather than a different model, like fords "3 Graces" the Consul, Zephyr and Zodiac? if that is so, then were Vauxhalls the Velox, Wyvern and Cresta? some knowledgeable  person will i'm sure will know !

i

The Vauxhalls were indeed Wyvern Velox and Cresta; that's the correct order because the Wyvern was the four-cylinder model, like the Consul.  Velox and Cresta were the Zephyr and Zodiac equivalents, with sixes up front, so yes, the difference was largely trim levels.

Nice collection!

I have to agree, the Matchbox Ford Prefect is utterly charming.

It's a favourite of mine for sure.

Smoll Eddy's favourite is the Matchbox Morris Minor.

Why Smoll Eddy?

Or at least normal size Smoll Eddy.

"Sod off M8"

What do you use on the wheels? The ones I do are always let down by scruffy wheels!

Molotow Liquid Chrome pen

Well worth the money although I had two that leaked all over the place.  Might be more impatient user error though.

That reminds me, did this little Lesney Thames a while ago.  Toyed with putting a card interior in, but came to nothing as it only really matters at this angle

Had it years, was in much worse state - painted with cloth.

These ones went in DoT 3 for a few days to get the paint off, Molotow chrome pen for the centres and Valejo black acrylic to get the tread area back to a nice satin sheen. I have wet sanded wheels before to get them a bit smoother

A recent trip to Halfords revealed some interesting colours on the clearance shelf so I tried them out on the last three of the whitemetal 50s British saloons I acquired last year. I do like these kits, nice and simple to put together but they turn out well with some careful detailing.

Daimler Conquest - Volkswagen Dragon Green

Sunbeam Talbot 90 - Ford Aztec Bronze

Standard Vanguard - Ford Tuscan Beige

VHP706.thumb.jpg.ad59df63dbedc9c7a9ff08ac11030ae6.jpg

The Tuscan Beige wasn't actually from the recent trip, I found it at the back of a shelf in the garage and have no idea why we had it. I thought it looked disgusting when I first applied it, but with the blue roof and chrome trim it's turned out quite pleasant. Why 'Tuscan Beige' though? Tuscany is hardly noted for its beigeness.

Continuing to go through the attic boxes this week in a effort to catalogue what I've actually got in the collection...

I've four of these IKEA boxes for my 1/43 stuff...

20200819_112417.thumb.jpg.214ca52a44fba52cb02cb3116cbd5d18.jpg

Plus a load of other boxes for bigger scale, smaller scale and loose stuff.

Plus what's in the display cabinets.

Plus what's at the bottom of the wardrobe, from the Friday tat market.

I don't think I'm exempt from the creeping feeling of dread that seems to be engulfing a few of us on here...

I used to get that, then I moved and acquired a large loft. Fear of having too much tat is nowhere near as bad as the "why did I sell that?" Regret.

However I did manage to resist new Matchbox multipacks;

20200819_125541.thumb.jpg.da315efec153d9977dd230318794f4ed.jpg20200819_125532.thumb.jpg.8d190f5dbe9b326329092356edbe4451.jpg20200819_125244.thumb.jpg.98acd5774e199ed8eecea991f317c31d.jpg

The unique to pack 59 Chevy wagon is a different colour in each of the 9 packs

But I did have a couple of arrivals awaiting me on my return from Tesco;

This was lurking among a load of fairly average 70s Matchbox in a job lot, 1968 HW  Beatnik Bandit. I don't really go out of my way looking for these as I have all of the original 16 cars, but when I spot one at way below market price I can't resist

I like spotting stuff that either wasn't released or was changed significantly beforehand, not seen the custom vans in those colours (P44) or a black Vantastic (P41). That last definitely looks pre-pro going by the windows.

The Rover SD1 on P43 is absolutely a resin model.

I know I've mentioned it before, but did any Volvo estates exist with round headlights and a detailed number plate, or was it just a re-touched photo?

Whilst digging out the Ford Thames, I found out that Dinky Nash Rambler repaint, that got parked.  Looking at the state of the glazing, no wonder

Painted in homage of the 1957 Rambler Rebel, at its time the fastest sedan car in the US market, and second only in a 0-60mph sprint with the Corvette.

20200819_175910131_iOS.thumb.jpg.3d8993ceb9afbb06291cc94cd55fde06.jpg

Metallic silver with gold-anodized side trim was the sole colour offered

20200819_180056787_iOS.thumb.jpg.f95c8385c7e77dc176988cdbfd0b0e08.jpg

Made some clumsy mistakes in the detailing and lost the will

Well, it seemed a good idea at the time

Tat Wednesday was a bit of a busted flush today, largely because I didn’t have that much money with me and that was gone in one atavistic moment with one seller before I'd gone more than about thirty paces. As luck would have it I genuinely didn’t see very much else of interest so it was just as well perhaps. Oddly enough this was one of two models which cropped up in conversation with Bunglebus last week. I believe this to be based around a 1961 or 62 Pontiac but Eddy Ramrod will probably know more about it.

The same seller also had this. I have a nice boxed yellow civilian example so despite not really needing it, it was just too nice to leave behind. Front number plate barely hanging on but fairly presentable otherwise.

And finally this, the other thing Bunglebus and I spoke about. Not much of a VW fan in any scale but this is possibly the only one I'd like a full size example of (not likely on my wages however.. ) Genuinely surprised to find a spare wheel still occupying the front luggage area, albeit kind of pointless with no tyre.

You are correct sir, 1961 Pontiac chassis.  This would be what GM called the Professional chassis, with a longer wheelbase than was available to the public.  Body w as coachbuilt by Superior, hence the name on the base.

All very nice especially the ambulances. I have the Ghia but it doesn't have the spare, think there should also be a suitcase under the (front) bonnet

Hey @bunglebus, from that 1980 Corgi catalogue I've learnt of the existence of an 80's Corgi casting I'd never know of before: Juniors E93 Dodge Magnum! Was this something that was sold only briefly?

ZOT_3OniRNCfAGMQce3gmw?w=300&h=225&fm=we

I also like seeing the prototype resins, especially the Rover SD1s. Funny how the police ones are resins and the civvy ones are actual models. I think it's fair to say the actual models were much better than the mock-ups but it's funny how Matchbox and Corgi both jumped on the SD1 bandwagon so long after its launch - presumably because Dinky launched theirs? Could've been them becoming increasingly popular as police cars too, I suppose.

And did Corgi ever release the 1/36 Rancho in gold? Have only ever seen red and perhaps an image of a yellow one. I also like the mixture of 1/36 and Juniors in the construction set, where a Mazda pick up is towing the Juniors cement mixer - which from memory, had Husky wheels.

Anyway, I noticed lots of other boring old duffer 'idiosyncrasies' but I've prattled on too much for now. Thanks for taking the time to upload!

Really quite taken with it on closer inspection. Filthy, but that's no surprise. I keep noticing little details like the luggage on the parcel shelf and the badge on the rear panel which probably hasn't come out very well.

By the way, the missing rear door on the ambulance is available on eBay.  Don't know what the quality is like, I haven't had to order one yet.

It isn't missing, although my piss-poor photo does give that impression. I would take a better one but typically I left it in the car when I got home and it's currently raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock.

I have no idea, I don't recall ever seeing one before. I've had a look through the 79 catalogue and it's not in there (but there are resin 1:64 and 1:43(?) civilian SD1s). I've got 78 and 77 too though...

Interwebs says 80-82 only and I can only find images of yellow ones. A new one to find!
