More plastic progress:

Ferrari finished after 12 years, Datsun almost there, Toyota's top half had to be repainted.

Nice work with the Datsun! I imagine all of those different coloured panels were a masking nightmare. What did you use to get the panel lines so dark and crisp?

Thanks, and yes it was certainly good practice on the masking! It's something I've previously tried to avoid, but it worked OK on the Toyota so I thought I'd try something a bit silly on this Z.

The orange wing and scuttle panel needed doing twice as that peeled off with the tape.

I scribed the panel lines out so they were a bit deeper, then after the various colours were applied I added a dark grey wash.

That particular kit is very basic (it's from the same series as the Ferrari) but with a bit of care it builds up nicely. I had to tweak the rear valance.

Yes but very disappointing.. Very little of interest at all and no real bargains. Also I really need to hoover this car out.

I had a bit of a play with my new purchase. A 9v battery reveals the siren and lights still actually work -

20200812_114434.thumb.jpg.cef8c4b629f670ddf88ad321725ff01b.jpg

The bulb for the lights is under the cover on the roof. So my £6.50 spend turned out to be a bit of a bargain.

TIMPO was trade name for Toy Importers Ltd.  The Timpo head office was this building :

Your model was made between 1946 - 1951 in London.  In 1946 it cost 3d, originally listed as 'Timpo Saloon' but in later catalogue referred to as a Morris

It does bear some similarity to the Morris 8 Series E...Morris%20Eight%20series%20E%202door%20rear.jpg

...but probably to differentiate it from their much better effort some months later on the Austin 10

A rather disappointing Tat Wednesday this week I'm afraid. The boot sale was both quieter and smaller than expected given how warm a morning it was here today. Very little diecast at all, the only Corgis I saw were a fairly worn Kojak Buick which has been eight quid since the dawn of time and a police SD1 which just wasn't ringing my bell (kinked windscreen pillars, damaged screen but otherwise all there) for a couple of pounds. Quite why I then blew three quid on this marvellous example of the effects of ultraviolet light versus Matchbox paint I don't now recall, perhaps it was the sun getting to me. Grille and rear window absent, glazing might well polish up if you were to bother.

This was at a stall a little further along. I know nothing of the prototype, but thought it a curiosity worth picking up all the same. It seems complete, you'd think the louvres over the rear window might have succumbed but no. The hinge is a little floppy but for its age, yeah, it's nice enough. Three quid prevented an overweight sunburned gentleman from (literally) throwing it into a box in his Transit, the process actually occurring as I deliberated because he wanted a fiver.

The Porsche 917 Langheck (long-tail) was a real thing, not a prototype

Here are a few outside the factory

Not only that, they made a right racket...

Which has just reminded me to get booking for Goodwood FoS next year

Have you been previously? I spent a few days there with a mate and his lad a couple of years ago and it was brilliant from start to finish. I loved the way most drivers hammered their cars around regardless of the eye-watering value of 99% of them. And the smell... and the sound...

Thinking back to childhood toys...

My brother and I each had a plastic bike (BMX iirc) with something which vaguely resembled a zip tie from what I remember. The idea was you inserted said zip tie contraption into a mechanism on the bike, pull it out sharpish and watch as the bike flies off into the distance.

Can anyone visualise what I'm talking about?

Talking of which, where did I put mine.  I took it to bits a year ago to put a slot car motor in, but it got parked

I had been going every year without fail since mid-nineties.  But in recent years, not happened.  This year was meant to be the year I went and camped there, but as we know, cancelled by covid

The Festival 'hill climb' is very different to the Revival 'track' weekend - which I might be going to - if it does go ahead as planned over September 11th-13th.  Revival very recommended too, if not been

I painted mine up, then promptly melted the glazing in paint stripper.  The previous owner had painted over the windows you see.
