This one came to me courtesy of DC's Tat Friday about eighteen months ago, all I've done was to remove some silver Humbrol detailing.

daft question, but how did you manage that?

No such thing as a daft question. Meths and a cloth got most of it off, needed more than one go on some bits. Other stuff might work as well or better, it was just all I had to hand.

I'd love a Bburago Silver Shadow. I passed up a boxed one at a Swapmeet for a tenner about 5 years ago but now they appear to be rare and expensive.

You’ll probably attest to this but they appeared in one of those big Toy Car books you’ve mentioned before. A silver and a blue one.

Lovely model. Still got one in it's box which I've owned since childhood - makes me want to dig it out to look at it!

Corgi Rolls-Royce Corniche in metallic red, with some aftermarket additions courtesy of Mr. Humbrol

Aha!  I remember that one.  Turned out well in the end ?

[This has been done before in this thread, but couldn't find it]

A comparision showing the upscaling of the Corgi 'Corniches' from 1:42 to 1:35 (well, that's what I calculated them to)

The larger Corgi Corniche is a bit special.  It's one of those models that just feels weighted 'right' when holding it, opening the doors, etc

20200626_141143109_iOS.jpg

Notice during production the front indicator colour changed...

20200626_141310806_iOS.jpg

...yet the rear indicator colour stayed the same.  Odd.

20200626_141331721_iOS.jpg

Dashboard decal a bit of a cop-out especially as the centre console being moulded-in is a good effort.  Plastic steering wheel this time.

Going back to the smaller scale, this is a front aspect comparision of the Corgi against the Dinky Silver Shadow

The Corgi is quite accurate with its overall scale average (measuring just length and width) of 1:43

The Dinky dimensions are quite off, as the width is way out; taking the overall scale to 1:38

Market Blokies nationwide probably don't know this.  Even on TAT FRIDAY (postponed)

This is the only other RR I have to hand at the moment, I did have a Shadow 2 when I was little but haven't seen it in years.

There is something about that gorgeous red that has stuck with me for forty odd years.

As a child I had the same one, but on the thin Superfast wheels.  It lost its boot lid shortly after.  I've no idea where it is now....

I can't join in with the Rolls Royce love I'm afraid, my only model being this 1980's Silver Spirit

On the subject of big red luxury cars though, I do have this Jag, which I'm very fond of. I know, more pub landlord than elegant luxury, but hey, I'm a commoner.

The rain has receded and the sun came out just now, which was perfect for a garden table meet for some of the Lesney Matchbox efforts.

Anyone else notice that the passenger window is open yet the driver's is closed?  (RHD)

20200703_110953636_iOS.thumb.jpg.17ef2db07b9fc25a6a0e3aaf197e9435.jpg

The pre-Superfast saloon has suffered a punch in the eye.  Anyone have one in their spares tin?

20200703_110739408_iOS.thumb.jpg.ea5af7d90a2a14809f09c56d39134397.jpg

Now, I can understand the boot lid and front bumper/grill/light castings sharing their rung registrations...

20200703_110844654_iOS.thumb.jpg.2dce4ac391ebca908ebf4db2752b44a3.jpg

But did anyone else know the chassis are not shared across the pre and Superfast range?  Shadow / Shadow 'Coupe' stamping is one thing, as is the wheel recess change; but the dimensions are different too

20200703_111156011_iOS.thumb.jpg.238c2526bbb61b2f73daf3bdf15e27dc.jpg

I naively did not know this, so the bright idea of digging this lot out of Eddy's spares box to quickly make up a 'Superfast' Shadow, to sit alongside them, failed ?

20200703_111230602_iOS.thumb.jpg.90639eb6dddd8d1c53611f448e4f14bb.jpg

Even the wheel bases are different!  All of 1mm, but still.

The Shadow body dimensions measure to 1:75 scale.  Fab1? no idea, best leave it there

Also found this rather snazzy Maisto tilt n slide recovery truck, along with an engineless mod rod.

Thought smoll Eddy may like it,haven't seen him about recently so took a trip down to his lockup, lots of noise and hammering coming from behind closed doors.

My knock was greeted by a "sod off M8"

I've also noticed the Daf car transporter I got recently has gone missing........

Just received in from China, only ordered it in April...

It's actually not a bad model, but being black, is a pain to photograph...

Oh.. I don't know, they aren't tooooo far off, if a top line one with the thick carpetting, English leather and veneers all over the place!  Perhaps you should out the Rovers and sample one (if not already) ? .  My old Daimler Sovereign was bid to £1200 (this was three years back) and went straight onto the same FJ insurance policy as the Rover R8 diesels - and at the same cost too!

Glad you posted the Super Kings XJ40.  Sadly, sold my boxed minty example recently to gather some cash (why did they put a snow scene as the insert?)...

....which has since been stripped and repainted into a similar blue of my old Daimler....  but still not finished, much like everything else in the boxes of projects

Mine is, naturally, a copcar, as is my Rover 800.

Yours is (was!) the later colour variation it seems, presumably in production after the competition ended

I may still have a fairly bashed Coupe with an intact front in the disposals box... will have a look later, assuming that's the same front end on the saloon too?

Sunnyish here now as well. It's a bin day and all.. How I didn't notice the top of the driver's door's absence before is beyond me and there should be a black hose thing atop the body.

At the opposite end of the premium car spectrum would be the Mercedes 240D.

Judging by many others I have seen, the Corgi 1/36 scale casting is uncharacteristically fragile. As alluded to above, the A pillars appear to be made of chocolate.

Despite their playworn appearance, these, received from @Amishtats 'Midweek Market' attendance have survived better than most.

IMG_20200703_151625.thumb.jpg.0e049ab13719d679f60c2233e9f79b4e.jpg

The one on the left has a fair bit of paint wear but is entirely complete and intact, including the a pillars, the other has better paint but had a hairline crack on one a pillar and a chipped grille. I received an offer that I just couldn't say no to so had to have them.

This is another 1/36 Corgi which when current ( I remember the muddy rally version in my local Toytown) which mum said was too dear. I eventually got a Juniors loose one from a newsagent for 40p who appeared to be selling NOS 1970s cars from Corgi with the packaging removed so as to avoid embarrassment to the manufacturer.

This is a lovely, accurate casting with opening boot, badging and a nice heavy feel to it. Weirdly despite having the generic wheels of the time, these have a proper Mercedes steering wheel rather than the off the shelf item Corgi usually fitted.

I was going to repaint one as an African Taxi but I really like them as they are so think I'll just leave them patinated.

Good call - that FAB1 on the right is a smaller scale version to the one that has just joined 'the party' too ?

20200703_143314043_iOS.thumb.jpg.c231eaae5e7b3d0e25e56c4265df8b6d.jpg

It's approx 1:38 scale, or wants to be

Pressing on the roof makes some wings pop out.

Pressing on the boot lid (trunk?) activates a sound chip - which is silent right now so can't describe that!  Will replace the couple of cells later and remind myself.

All plastic, the brand is 'VTG Ltd' along with '©ITV Studios'.   What does your one have stamped underneath?
