Crikey I went off looking and you've already sussed it

Busy afternoon on here!!

I'\d better sign off and get some work done

Stuck on an Apple MacBook it's such a pain to use, everything take twice a long.  Windows box anytime...... grrr

That could well be the one! Thought the one in the box was dark grey for some reason, but black is more likely.

Nicely proportioned model, that - and the side-sliding door is a nice touch.

I had a really scruffy version of this casting with BMX tampo printing, which I repainted to look like the sort of really rotten-looking old Merc 207 vans that were still banging about in the early 90s. Y'know, the ones that would have been sacked off years before if it had been a Transit, but the owner just kept on bodging it because of that prestige Mercedes keyring...

Nice haul, bet you can't wait to for it to arrive!

When they hopefully arrive... Hermes. Never used them but heard some stories!

Electric Corgi Rockets!

IMG-20190404-170056.thumb.jpg.7bf3f1cda70ec9a550f613cb42220964.jpg

Mega, mega rare!

These were Corgi's answer to the Hot Wheels Sizzlers and Matchbox Scorpions - a model with a built-in rechargeable Ni-Cad battery, which would run on the stunt track sets without the need for gravity or battery-powered launch tubes.

They were another casualty of the Mattel/Mettoy litigation of the early '70s, and with the Rockets range then being hastily withdrawn, hardly any of these were ever sold (not least because they were pretty pricey).

Of those that were, most have been ruined long ago due to battery leakage, and this Alfa Romeo Montreal is sort of the Holy Grail - as it was the sole unique casting in the Electro Rockets lineup, and never appeared anywhere else in the Corgi Juniors range.

Take it that's another search engine image, rather than one from your eBay job lot!

Although I said I wasn't buying any more die-cast until I've offloaded some of my current stock I couldn't resist this job lot off eBay. I bought it mainly for the Escorts and the Sierra Cosworth. This is a pic from the listing. I'm curious what the van is furthest left?

I think the green car and the black striped car are both Mk3 Escorts - which I believe is Mr Socket's prime reason for acquiring said box!

Beige Volvo does look clean though, and not a colour variant I've encountered before.

s-l1600.thumb.jpg.10816ce785c685d104929a979c5ff7c3.jpg

Some real lovelies in there - the Mk3 Cortina GXL police car (beneath the capsized orange Fiat X1/9) still appears to have intact A-pillars, and I think that's a narrow-body BMW E30 in plain white with its doors still attached (under the black Porsche Carrera) - another comparative rarity. A Mountain Rescue Range Rover may well be the thing on its roof just behind it, partially under the green Mercedes Lucas box truck.

The roofless Range Rover -  nuzzling up to the Merc Rally Van - originally appeared in maroon as part of a James Bond playset, but then reappeared in the main line-up in the early 80s. Yet another less common small Corgi model, and an especially good find if it still has its windshield in place. Great buyage here!

I think we're all maybe feeling a little bit starved of tat box delights... I'll see what I can do... ?

I think the black car may be a Polo/Golf? But yes, I did want the green and the yellow Escorts. There's also a bonus metallic green Escort by the looks of it.

MODEL MANZ

Need some help:

I've got a 1.43 corgi Jaguar that needs 2 x tyres. Can anyone help?

20200507_155418.thumb.jpg.d882d751b6d808868efaf81a5982215b.jpg20200507_155413.thumb.jpg.879b8ce82796493abc5419a1ea459b71.jpg20200507_155437.thumb.jpg.58f70a34182b8acb66ecbd67736b8bd5.jpg20200507_155514.thumb.jpg.14317f6171a778e488ff30784899c477.jpg

I broke the boot off it months ago whilst trying to open it and nearly chucked it in the bin but its a nice old model so today I fitted it back on and thought of this place.

Shot in the dark this one; I've also got a 1.43 Solido Alfa 166 that needs a wheel if anyone can help?

20200507_161336.thumb.jpg.b6ab81ac4562f78fc347066edf6eb2b6.jpg20200507_161356.thumb.jpg.2de15ba67bc3bc71204bc14dcdc51371.jpg

I'm going to try and glue the original wheel back together as I have most of it here but it would be nicer to have an original solid wheel.

Thanks!

Ah yes - think you're right, the black one is indeed a VW Polo - not a colourway I've seen before, oddly enough.

The yellow car between the Mk2 Astra and the Rover 800 (and beneath the Jaguar Le Mans car) looks to my eyes like it might be a Polo too.

[Edit: beaten to it by eagle-eyed 155V6!]

The bright green 'Fahrschule' and metallic green versions of the Mk3 Escort seem fairly definite, though!

Seems to be a goodly number of Metros in there also, a Jaguar XJ40,a Merc W123, Renault Trafic, and a 'Custom Van' - though I'm stumped about the blue car under the yellow 2CV...

I've also got a number of tyreless Corgis, but I've no clue how to go about ordering spares online cos I don't know what size they need!

+1 for helps, please!

(5x tyres for East African Safari VW Beetle, 4x tyres for Rice Horse Box are the first ones to spring to mind.)

Yep, eBay is the place to go if I can't get any here. I just thought with all restoration of model cars someone might have some spares lying about.

Thought I'd do a comparison:

Vauxhall Cavalier 1.43 saloon GAMA vs Corgi Vanguards:

20200507_165429.thumb.jpg.1f787ce3ffa6c7f19225748ef860bf21.jpg

"So, which shall I take to the sales meeting then?"

20200507_165720.thumb.jpg.040ef1fc288d8b0de99f5d98a872ce6e.jpg20200507_165701.thumb.jpg.2d047f15bc7a431bb6e780a62d1bdaec.jpg20200507_165613.thumb.jpg.2acce562bb40935e95b31ae5e845a76b.jpg20200507_165536.thumb.jpg.d332bd17a6fb5f7256f2b4f91317e338.jpg

The Corgi model is by far the most detailed I've seen of the 1.43 Cavalier model, nicely detailed with an interior that comliments the exterior. Badges are correct as per year of model and the wheels are really nice.

The GAMA model isn't far behind, it lacks a detailed interior and the lights aren't as bright as they could be, there are no badges on the GAMA model apart from the black-spot I put on it to emulate the old 90s round Vauxhall badges. I doubt it was really intended as such for the collectors market which the Corgi is. Scale-wise though it is spot-on and the wheels are Vauxhall rather than Opel badged. The wheels have a nice raised Vauxhall logo in the middle.

Tried some different wheels on the Escort, but they're too big. Need some 1:32-1:36 wheels with 33mm between the back of the wheels - anyone have a crappy Welly (or similar) car they don't need?

Also 'finished' the Metro, using electricians tape. Probably still has more structural rigidity than the real thing. ?

Ohhh I'm jealous of that Vanguards Cav! To think I could have had one for under a tenner when Corgi had a Black Friday sale some years ago... Got the Steel Grey Astra GTE though, so not all bad.

Also got the Gama Cav somewhere in the stash, buggered if I know where though. Still a decent looking model, and holds up well considering the difference in age between it and the Vanguards casting.

I reckon the mystery blue car is a Corgi Mk3 Capri that has had the bumpers painted silver ?

Definitely the GAMA for me, I much prefer period character than realism.

One of those was on my radar when I was a kid as I liked cars of that shape as I thought they looked quite futuristic in the late 1980s. I had the Audi 80 and a Siku Passat for the same reason.

Don't be so hard on yourself, they look great, and more to the point they are UNIQUE

Put it this way - I would buy them both back off you when the lad is done, screw home my spare motorised chassis and would find a ready market in the slot crowd with a few tweaks

The Corgi is way better.

As threatened, bigger Volksies

I only have three Splits, all Corgis. a modern panel that's had a repaint, Toberlorone panel with the working lights and the pickup mentioned earlier, missing the tool chest - not easy to find on a budget.

I was really lucky to find the Spot-on at a boot sale or jumble sale years ago, and the African Safari Beetle replaces one I had as a kid, got pinched at school and was found in a bin minus its engine cover.

I also have this modern Dinky from the magazine series published a few years ago

Not 100% sure - thought it was the Merc in the top pic, but there's every chance Corgi swapped the Ford cab over at some point... the chassis and box appear identical on both.

Yes, I reckon it might be the Ford after all, too... those sticky-out mirrors plus the deeper ribs in the roof casting are pointing me back towards the Cargo again. Cheers for the side by side comparison!
