I've got that Escort, with the speedwheels I think though.

It's a bit of a wonky representation all round but the general proportions do reflect a 'normal' Escort of the day, rather than a bubble arched Mexico. It also epitomises Dinky at the time, right when they were on the cusp of oblivion.

Posted

It's a fair representation of how I remember them in my youth (40 next week..), they were fairly downtrodden old heaps with mismatched panels when I was a boy. Still looking out for the Dinky Victor 101 and Singer Vogue if anyone here comes across a decent example..

I do enjoy the virtual rummaging through the tat box.

It also means my pocket remains intact.

Just wondering if anyone has info or images regarding the Dinky Ford Escort casting? Doing some Googling has found these registrations;

UVR 77F

INJ 72K

MTB 21G

MTB 21K

MTB 21L

MTB 21M

MTB 21N

MTB 21P ( only went up to a N reg on the real car)

These seemed to be used on various other Dinky releases too.

I also understand there were normal versions in metallic blue, light blue, orange (as a kit), metallic red and gold, plus three wheel variations. Does that cover all the changes?

Thanks...

Right right right… a somewhat wet and dreary day in old Belfast town.

At the arse-end of what seems to be an interminable grey January, I have to confess my thoughts this morning were tending more towards procuring a steaming coffee and a scone rather than rootling through a box of mashed Lesneys encrusted with grime and who-knows-what-else… hey, we all have our moments of weakness.

In fact, I was almost hoping that Market Blokey had decided to stay in bed this week, and keep his diecast delights safe in the shed, but no - as I lurched through the market doors, slightly damp, I could see his sign aloft a block over.

The market was extremely quiet this week, with a lot of empty stalls. So much so, that Market Blokey had spread his wares over two others.

So, what have we got this week...

20200131_094523.thumb.jpg.b0bae68002e69b9012f086b9411053f6.jpg

Okay... some familiar sights here, but the Corgi commercials are new, as are the Lesneys to the left (and the lone Husky Bedford TK).

£15 each on the Corgi Holmes Wrecker and Unimog Goose Neck; with £20 on the Mack artic.

The usual Days Gone were on offer for £2, and also these loose items - some of which have put in an appearance before.

20200131_094424.thumb.jpg.2cacbfd644acf244c1b541347e81fbe4.jpg

Mostly New Ray/Bburago/Maisto items, with some Corgi (including an early-80s MG TF) and two Lesney DAF flatbeds - all at £2 each.

But what really grabbed me was that the 50p Tat Box now had its very own table... and there were a lot of other models scattered beside it.

20200131_094611.thumb.jpg.372f900380fc232a5190899a2eaf4be4.jpg

Now, pause for reflection was required here, as this ain't the same 50p Tat Box as last week, which lately has been a deep cardboard box.

This is the older box, last seen on 13th December, with less in the way of the recent 70s Superfasts and more in the way of modernish no-name tat.

I've asked before, and it does seem that he has various boxes of stock, and kinda just grabs them at random.

Regrettably, this means that the tyreless Harrington Cavalier and MAN motorway maintenance truck requested by @quicksilver aren't present - though I will continue to look for them!

There were, however, quite a few lightly chipped MoYs in this box:

20200131_091647.thumb.jpg.e09ce2bd41270ab3f153378f05ab0f62.jpg

The Majorette Chevy Blazer in front had suffered quite a lot of paint loss but otherwise complete, if there's any interest?

[EDIT - that's a Ford Bronco!!]

But it was what was next to this lot which interested me more...

20200131_094547.thumb.jpg.69b2401fdc9d84875031f57c6c7995a5.jpg

and

20200131_094641.thumb.jpg.3939ec04444c12bea4d54097557422c0.jpg

Hmmm... could it be?

A giffer was bending Market Blokey's ear about old postcards, so I lurked for a bit before finally catching his eye and gaining confirmation...

EVERYTHING ON THE WHITE TABLE WAS PRICED AT 50P TO CLEAR.

GO GO GO GO GO!!!!

Vietnam_Helicopter.thumb.jpg.d5686c03cf0b401755feb19637dbb2ce.jpg

So, there was much grabby-handsing, and to be honest I'm still not quite sure what I've picked up. It was all a bit of a blur...

20200131_094452.thumb.jpg.b9992f1774e739063fba1f0adbd439eb.jpg

I left this no-name Hong Kong BMW 3.0 CSL, that I do know... also the red Majorette pull-backs Matra Murena. But if anyone feels strongly...

Somewhat reeling, I tore myself away from the frenzy to head over to the stall selling blingy jewellery, musty old fur coats and romance novels, to see if the Lucky Toys Ford F150 was still there...

It wasn't. All items with wheels were gone.

Alan's Emporium also wasn't in evidence, and the Charity Stall had just the dregs of last week - now scattered through the rest of the 20p rubbish.

Nothing much to interest anyone in there; even that battered My First Matchbox Rover 800 seemed to have gone.

But, while wandering up Giffer Alley...

20200131_094329.thumb.jpg.62448ca8dab812e98707dfda57be6385.jpg

Well I never - if it isn't the same plastic and tinplate tat from the jewellery stall, now in with other collectables and whatnot.

So it seems that, as with the EFE and OOC buses, some inter-stall trading has gone on... unfortunately, the stallholder could not be located but my fear is that these have gone from 'crappy old toys' to "Them's rare, them's old..." with a commensurate price tag...

Further enquiries are to be made over lunchtime.

So! Normally I would have photographed my haul by now, but the sheer number of them - plus the discomfiting presence of two adjacent colleagues who normally remote-work on a Friday, but are very much here today - has dissuaded me from whipping out my bag of heavily discounted delights and laying them out on the desk like an overgrown child...

...but I think there might be some stuff of general interest to @Amishtat, @bunglebus and @flat4alfa, at the very least.

Updates to come!!

How big is that hood-less Ford F-100 ?

Your Murena is an Alpine A310, not that it matters

How much is that comedy plastic orange Jeep with the oversize motor?

I'd say the Ford is roughly about 1/32 scale - here it is in my hand from last week.

20200124_102509.thumb.jpg.64fda2c65400f522ea75ebe84eff0eff.jpg

(my hands are very average in size)

20200124_102528.thumb.jpg.e79d2c27cc15612bb3431c9bdf780368.jpg

Bit bigger than a Matchbox Superkings model, but much smaller then a Bburago 1/24.

Not sure what price any of the plastic toys are, either the Ford or the Jeep - there was no-one on the stall! Apparently 'Mary' was away somewhere else, according to the guy selling coins and militaria next stall over.

But I shall enquire shortly.

That's good to know about the Majorette - it has huge wheels, nothing more than Majorette on the baseplate, and seemed very stylised - Murena was merely a guess. Cheers for ID'ing it!

Tat Friday II... and today we have some new additions in Barrow.

1976835426_Fri004.thumb.jpg.ab2fde4094bfba98d49470137aefecd6.jpg

Let's begin with a MB Scammell artic, minus load and, I think, some of the crane.  For £3 who's going to mind?

1183631627_Fri005.thumb.jpg.be8c58059f1587dd81e643e88c056367.jpg

More MB, in the shape of the NYPD-coloured Plymouth Gran Fury.  Apart from not having a trunk lid it's in lovely condition.  Also £3.  Behind is the UK equivalent by Corgi: the famous Rover SD1, slightly chipped but otherwise pretty nice.  £6.  Even has the window in the tailgate!

1324055398_Fri006.thumb.jpg.4a939b2a52e2464f0eef5f9301cfffd5.jpg

Here's one for @flat4alfa: Merc 508D dressed as an ambulance.  It's a plastic body and fairly lightweight.  I almost picked it up on general principle!

1285506391_Fri007.thumb.jpg.7addc2417f32173220a261d625a38036.jpg

Construction machinery, anyone?  None of it's expensive...

424333775_Fri008.thumb.jpg.25f6a1a1b0534506c2ed730ff18a453a.jpg

How about a mixer truck?  LAD-cabbed Leyland, in LHD, by Joal.  No mixer, but I'm sure that won't bother many of us.

I can slip back and grab any of the above that people want.

A pair of Mercedes Benz commercials made by Lucky Toys of Hong Kong.  Scaling is 1:28 and 1:36 or thereabouts. At a guess.

Gaaah, that's a pity the Gran Fury's missing the trunk lid - it really does look in very nice nick otherwise.

I had the later 1980s black and white cop version, and it chipped dreadfully even with relatively careful play.

Scammell with crane trailer is a lovely model and looks very clean - so will hopefully find a loving home.

Mine's the later blue and orange type - so it appears that someone just slightly older than me has been having a clearout..

Cheers for snapping these, it's always good to see what crops up at other tat stalls!

So, what else from Belfast?

Now that I've teased and tantalised (and managed to get five minutes when there was no-one around to witness me indulging my tragic hobbies), here's this morning's haul from the OMFG 50p Clearance Sale of the Century:

Things that might make @flat4alfa grin - yup, I pre-emptively nabbed these fantasy Superkings this morning, figuring that someone on here might give them a home.

20200131_123719.thumb.jpg.6b89d994f05bcf2d8b390b81fe36c6f6.jpg

20200131_123733.thumb.jpg.9cbc7c4036ca4f626cc30d459a2b4226.jpg

They are really heavy. I didn't realise just how substantial these things are; there's a lot of metal in them.

N-reg numberplates on the aircraft transporters is the kind of thing that sent me into paroxysms of rage when I was younger... these days I'm more chilled, and instead just grind my teeth in fury while snapping pencils in half.

Slightly more realistic 70s Lesney, then...

20200131_123750.thumb.jpg.f0102101d9ccac45824a65ca5ba32520.jpg

20200131_123803.thumb.jpg.5662aee86817de6595fddf0133f227f6.jpg

I really like the DAF six-wheel truck, and only last night was lamenting selling my bright green version in 2018 - especially as I now have two of the three load pallets it would originally have come with.

I'm not sure if I want to sell either of these just yet!

But when I do, I'll let  you know here first (calling dibs is ok, mind - though you may have to wait a while...)

The Superfast era Dodge horse box is, however, available right away at its cost price of 50p to whoever fancies it.

Loading doors are intact, though the trailer glazing is missing - and there seems to be some damage to the cab, as the grille seems pushed back allowing the base to come loose from the cab (though not come away completely).

Following the commercial theme, here's a Ford A-series tractor unit, pulling a tipper trailer which never came with this model (and could only end in tears IRL) yet looks somehow 'right' in battered toy format.

20200131_123818.thumb.jpg.7ddf5d952546f4260c8421dcb57bcd35.jpg

20200131_123833.thumb.jpg.6ef8d9b49e90704d652540bccccda717.jpg

The trailer may team better with the white Leyland Roadrunner over on the sales board, though I kinda like it like this.

Also another Ford tractor unit, this time by Majorette. Not in bad nick, with mirrors and everything still intact.

Both the Fords and the trailer available at 50p a pop!

Moving back to Lesney, I snaffled this Dodge Charger 'Bender', despite its unfortunate lack of engine. Any takers?

20200131_123849.thumb.jpg.ae8d49d31d9cd184803b977701b27225.jpg

Also, we have a trailer and rear load from the Superkings Mercedes Unimog set.

Naturally, I sold the Unimog itself in 2018 - these would have made it a much more complete model.

Both the Charger and the Unimog accessories are available for 50p!

Now, here's a familiar object to chaps of a certain age...

20200131_123903.thumb.jpg.421338d260c01d829202e17dfa458d9d.jpg

I can remember having a bit of an attachment to one of these Corgi Gran Torinos back in playgroup. It wasn't in much better nick than this, either.

20200131_123915.thumb.jpg.58adb5d583f5b31ea50898d3cd13cdef.jpg

20200131_123948.thumb.jpg.752d224ee882333be0e9b80707784624.jpg

Any interest, at fifty new pence?

Now, here's where things get really interesting for those who like older stuff:

20200131_124009.thumb.jpg.eb44dd176a0c75d91369a55faef2cf2b.jpg

20200131_124025.thumb.jpg.39d432e365d1aa97b921a9d82effa4f9.jpg

Yup, it's a big Dinky Mercedes 600 Pullman, albeit one missing a bootlid and headlight lens.

Also a Corgi Toyota 2000GT, lacking a windscreen but otherwise still quite nice.

And finally, a Corgi Chevrolet Corvair, which has been subjected to several terrible repaints yet for all that still seems fairly sound and might clean up pretty well.

50p each? Hell's teeth, you couldn't have picked them up for that sort of money thirty years ago!

Moving into a more modern era...

20200131_124037.thumb.jpg.7421aa0773e028368d8491ef92c91eee.jpg

20200131_124055.thumb.jpg.920b71ca80bc0d5b7c32e8a127454875.jpg

A Minichamps Ford Scorpio estate, somewhat bedraggled from living in a tat box but intact bar the door mirrors, and may well polish up nicely.

I have a boxed one of these from new, hence this being surplus for me. But a billy bargain windfall for someone else here?

The Vanguards Thames 307E Royal Mail van has been subjected to a brutal and degrading attack with a tube of Bostik and what seems to be various clippings from food packaging.

20200131_124130.thumb.jpg.3d66937ae8cbfc35fbdeb8b2458a4cbe.jpg

20200131_124143.thumb.jpg.73b1b73c08f68544484aa6eafdae6de1.jpg

20200131_124114.thumb.jpg.3ff96184f35cefa59bf667a4856ac098.jpg

If I were soliciting donations for a charity to rehabilitate unloved and abused diecast, these are the images I'd thrust in people's faces to show the extent of man's inhumanity to van.

Please give generously. Only 50p secures Gluey McGlueface's future.

Lastly for now, some smol stuff:

20200131_124155.thumb.jpg.43896b30f41035dd678a5f22b6f4bf4b.jpg

20200131_124208.thumb.jpg.15b742c8e2910154f6c1609fe1a88664.jpg

Kellogg's Model A Van is a Cornflakes freebie item, that may or may not be better than one I picked up a while back to contrast against my own heavily playworn original. I'll be offering one out shortly.

The Corgi Renault Trafic minibus is one I just like, but never had.

Think I'll take the scruffy tampo off the side with a dab of acetone, and pretend it's one of our old school minibuses. One for the Permanent Collection, methinks.

The trailer is by Playart and, given the box from whence it came, more than likely belongs to the yellow Playart Scania tractor unit picked up a few months back.

 20200131_124228.thumb.jpg.1b86991b49ef2a2d27594f2111542a1a.jpg

It gives me a worrying amount of pleasure to reunite components like this. I'll snap a pic of the completed truck later; very much available. I wonder what was originally provided up top as a load?

So! Quite a haul this week and, other than where indicated that I'm showing early signs of my hoarding tendencies, these are available to those who'd like them added to their new/existing tat box...

More to follow from the lunchtime expedition (eventually!)

Put me down for the Scorpio and the 307E please.  I'm sure I can pretty that van up a bit and the Scorpio can go into my "peripheral" collection: cars that mean something to my real life, but I didn't own.

Okay, so here's what lunchtime's expedition brought:

20200131_161308.thumb.jpg.b3b344a49c57caa9f4cc5fe4f57b2a2d.jpg

Lucky Toys Ford F150 and another Hong Kong plastic toy of uncertain manufacture (a stylised 'S' underneath is the only clue), for @flat4alfa

Mary was back at the stall, and charged me £2 each - does that seem alright?

Also completing @flat4alfa's wishlist:

20200131_161322.thumb.jpg.5366b6dbaccfa70cedb71c7d97737f18.jpg

Corgi Mack Fire Tender, Superkings Laing crane truck (sans crane) and another Superkings Transporter - all 50p each.

The other Denver fire appliance had gone, but since I procured one for you a few weeks ago there'll still be two of them in your next consignment... and three Transporters?

I hope you grabbed that Tonka!

Agh, I didn't!

I have a weird love/hate thing with those Tonkas; they were everywhere once - usually wrecked and rusty from a life in the sandpit, and also non-prototypical, so I didn't want to know. I seem to have a total blind spot for them, I just don't see them.

But that one is indeed in lovely condition, and actually quite charming - enough to make me totally re-evaluate my position on them.

Of course, it was gone when I went back...

Speaking of stylised tow trucks...

20200131_161336.thumb.jpg.257a65398731eae03ec077a32564bbeb.jpg

20200131_161352.thumb.jpg.b932937d4eb1a55ea968bfd26402ac75.jpg

The Corgi fantasy tow truck in the centre is a bit grimy but otherwise in good nick, with hook and all still attached.

The Siku Mercedes is  kinda phuq'd, but someone with a bit of patience may find that a lick of paint and a replacement windscreen works wonders...

The no-name Hong Kong Bedford S-type is plastic, and other than a damaged A-post is quite remarkably intact and rather charming too.

20200131_161406.thumb.jpg.61918968191ef524571174362fa1aa1a.jpg

All it has underneath is a floridly decorated letter 'E' - anyone?

Another oldie, then - a Ferrari Berlinetta 250 Le Mans.

20200131_161501.thumb.jpg.0f70a90c0da6173dfc8a02cb884e0100.jpg

While not really my thing, this is complete and intact bar an exhaust tip, and could be made reasonably presentable with only a couple of tyres.

50p.

Smaller stuff, again:

20200131_161512.thumb.jpg.597e2258eb381e989b7a48d119661551.jpg

20200131_161527.thumb.jpg.3a8629d5dcffee35e5c8a0413b44532d.jpg

A Matchbox Mercedes 190E; that Majorette Alpine A310 with the pull-back motor and oversize wheels; and a tired Chevy Blazer also by Majorette.

(EDIT - it's not a Blazer, it's a Ford Bronco!)

All available to anyone who wants them!

Next up:

20200131_161556.thumb.jpg.72e4b390319dec159cb56436b7a412f3.jpg

A nicer Corgi Juniors Lotus Esprit than the yellow one I was offering out the other day...

...and a Corgi Mazda RX-8? Well, it says Corgi underneath, and who am I to argue? With the daft stickers peeled off, this could be quite nice.

Then a no-name Chevrolet ambulance, to potentially join my unintentional Chevy Van collection - unless anyone here takes a shine to it? I've had my eye on this one for a year - today was, it seems, the day.

20200131_161609.thumb.jpg.87927576a67fe078d44f05eb75e1559c.jpg

20200131_161623.thumb.jpg.6d758b53836f496809297cc3b20d732c.jpg

Something a bit odder now - it's the microlite thing which came with a Corgi Land Rover and trailer set in the mid-late 70s.

I've no real use for it, but it's kinda nice.

20200131_161639.thumb.jpg.982a01870f52254a2dcb88671acb2e27.jpg

Not for sale - this is a New Ray 1/43 MGF, which I intend to give to Cog Sr as an addition to his 'cars | have owned' model collection in the garage.

It's not BRG like his, but it's fairly close otherwise... hard to find one in this scale, oddly.

20200131_161747.thumb.jpg.f8dafc34a7d9b767b2e956a55996627d.jpg

I also picked this up from Mary, for myself... not sure why, my brother was the one into M.A.S.K. Seems to be mostly intact and working, though.

And I also found this, in the bottom of the crate...

20200131_161705.thumb.jpg.ad759426aec2d2ae3b2b046f749557d4.jpg

...which I believe is off this item, seen on the stall way back last August and which had sold before I managed to get back over at lunchtime.

20190802_083408.thumb.jpg.70bd6e7d9deff5ca945f0fbdfa83f220.jpg

Just thought someone else may be able to make use of it, since transporters are often missing their rear ramps.

So my next challenge, then, is getting all this past MrsDC this evening...

Oh, and I nearly forgot... I did buy myself something too.

Yup, it's a very nice example of the Corgi Majors Ford H-series Holmes Wrecker - still with the little mechanic dude and everything.

I've waxed lyrical about the extraordinary detail on this one before, when a resto project example was sourced for sheffcortinacentre way back in June - and I've been looking out for one ever since.

For £15, I'm pretty chuffed with this.
