Shite in Miniature II

Liking the haul there. This is the high octane excitement you get with the tat box. You see it and you want to knock everyone round it out of the way to revel in finding a Majorette Peugeot 604 with a missing bonnet. There’s always someone in front dithering or a snotty kid chipping all the paint off the top end chod. You just want to shout ‘Fuck off all, the Tat Man Cometh!’

That's a lovely Christmas story, DC! Looking forward to the photo updates.

This arrived in the post a few weeks back:

49139531381_7ff8c664d9_b.jpg

I'm a sucker for a nice box design.

49139038988_94d1ce9c93_b.jpg

Very reminiscent to me of the box that the Corgi Juniors Mini Metro came in, when freshly launched. As I feel is the case with the Corgi MM, will the model inside be not as good as the box?

49139531441_e6737a6c0e_b.jpg

Personally, I think it's not bad! Slight detail issue in having two different trim levels of wheels but I'll forgive that. Funnily enough, the metallic blue is quite similar to the Corgi Juniors Metro, too.

49139531536_809ecb3d85_b.jpg

This is a 1/43 VW Santana, by Conrad, a German firm I wasn't aware of. I bought this not only because I liked it but it looked strikingly similar to....

49139727627_cefce1a3ba_b.jpg

My Gama Passat! Which turns out to be made by Conrad, despite being boxed as a Gama - shows how observant I am!

49139727717_0352352b40_b.jpg

Now, I'm a fan of both of these and the quality of the paint in the Santana is most excellent. Somehow though, the flashing remnants and silveriness of the wheels do let the whole show down a smidge - to the point that these look like they look like they could have been bought in some tat shop, adorned with pull back motor and sold in an open cardboard case with white moulded plastic tray. Or perhaps I'm just letting my imagination run away a little, there.

49139530121_f84acb20ef_b.jpg

Actually, I take the above comments back, as my critiquing forced me to walk over to the shelf and pick them up again for another look. I've squished all my 'best' 1/43s onto two shelves above the TV and these are parked next to each other in the lower tier, as my arranging has been grade in two ways; upper tier, cream of the crop stuff, service vehicles one side, normal cars opposing. Lower tier, slightly not so good, loosely parked oldest to newest by model, except where colours cause visual displeasure.

Is anyone else as sad I am, when it comes to displaying?!

You need the lower version to start with.If you put smaller wheels on the lifted version, they probably wouldn't touch the ground ?

This popped up in my coloring book app (don't laugh, nice stress reliever)

Anyone recognise it?

I vaguely recognise it either as a matchbox diecast or in custom car magazines back in the day.

Welly are a decent maker. I originally turned my nose up at them but having acquired a considerable number over the years due to them modelling some interesting subjects, they are almost comparable with HW and Matchbox.

They havent been so lucky with their marketing in the UK though and the inly place you really see them are in TK Maxx but even then their availability is patchy.

There was a thread a while ago discussing eBid, reminded me I'm signed up on there but never bought anything so I thought I'd have a nose about - found a guy selling loads of Hot Wheels and with combined postage they were a good price.

Bought a load, waited for delivery...nothing. Been discussing it with the seller for weeks, agreed if nothing arrived by today then they were lost and he'd refund me. Only when he tried to, he noticed that my address was different to paypal, crapped myself thinking they'd been sent to my ex-wife, but no they'd gone to an address I lived at in about 2011! As it's not far from my house I went and knocked on the door, bloke had gone all the way to the main town to collect it after getting the card through his door, tried the house in the street with the same door number as the flat but ultimately was stuck with my box of cars!

Altogether a happy ending, glad they ended up 10 mins away and not 100 miles if they'd gone where I went after I moved from that flat (not that my ex-wife would have admitted to receiving them).

So, the cars;

Some of Welly's more obscure (read shite-centric) 1/18 releases are well worth a gander.

Friday may well turn into Double Tat Day.  I've discovered a stall on Barrow outdoor market today loaded with diecast; mostly cheap crap, but the key word is cheap.  He buys job-lots to get models he wants, and puts the rest on his stall.  Prices start at 50p each/5 for £2.  He had a couple of 1/18s at £15 each, which might have interested me had they not been a Bini and  a 50s Lancia.  Next time I'll take my camera.  I mentioned what happens here and he was delighted to think someone would advertise his stock.  Friday and Saturday are the appropriate days.  Since I'm out of town next week you'll have to wait for the next update, but that gives him a chance to load up more stock.

My word I remember the little white Sierra, Defo had this at some point in my life.

Does anyone remember the little Pointers Food Transit?? I had this as a kid and found one at my sons playgroup a month or so back. Was so tempted to pocket it!
