Shite in Miniature II

@bunglebus the LED's look tremendous in that CD tower...

I took a trip to the toy fair at Haydock Park yesterday and had a wander round for an hour. Bought quite a few bits considering I'd told myself to not just buy everything I pick up so I spent a total of £13.

There was plenty of 50p tat boxes... some were even 3 for a £1.

Let me show you possibly one of the smallest and crappest die-casts I've ever seen... I couldn't have left it there ?

Gently rub a cotton bud dipped in non-acetone nail varnish remover over the decals & they should disappear!

Thanks. I bought these

Toot toot here's the Postman delivering another shipment from NI!

In love with the big plastic Fiat, my Alfa finally has a friend after I regrettably chose it over the 127 in the Newsagents in 1983

Hey, glad it all arrived safely!

Yep, the empty box was the only thing handy to jot down a number plate when an opportunity presented itself...

I felt some explanation was in order!

I remember having a set of about half a dozen of these crude things, all modelled on various 1980s sportscars. No maker's name on them and I have no idea where they came from, probably off a market stall.

HOT CARABO ACTION

Bertone's Alfa Romeo Carabo in Corgi and Matchbox flavours.  I'm sure I have a Solido 1/43 somewhere but it's gone AWOL

In the meantime, WDIB?  (who did it best)

Is this Chevy van a Yatming?

Don't think it's by Yatming, although it's very likely ripped off from one of their castings - I turned up a similar one back in June, though it's not quite identical to yours either.

Yours Chinese example seems to be a better-quality version than my Hong Kong version, as yours is fitted with an interior.

I think the proper Yatmings (generally sold under the Road Champs brand over here, I believe) have a more lozenge-shaped size window - while both these ones appear to be round.

I think they're meant to represent a third-generation Ford Econoline, but it's all pretty approximate!

Mrs Postie has been with some Autoshite swapsies. Well happy with the Majorette buggy, never seen one before and I have no idea how it's stayed complete - comes apart via the little red tag at the back

Glad the package arrived safe

The Bagheera I bought as a boy, on my first ever foreign holiday (France) back in 1981.  It's moved house 6 times.

Oh well, can't keep them all.

Post lady also delivered these today

Skyline is nice especially as it is in civilian clothes and not with Bosozuku embelishments

Oldsmobile I've wanted since I was a boy.  Was pleasantly pleased to find all four headlight jewels still in place.

The Horseboxes were only bought as they were in the job lot with the Roadworks Corgitronics drill thing.  It works too.

Thanks. The sloping side window/door treatment  is unusual. Mystery casting - excellent!

Cor, some nice swaps there... the Majorette beach buggy's a new one on me as well, looks like it's survived well!

VW Golf looks strangely familiar...

Would have to agree that the Matchbox version seems better in the hand, while the Superfast wheels are rather neater than the over-large Corgi Rockets type.  I don't know what Corgi were doing with that weirdly ridged bonnet, but at least they managed to nicely replicate the iridescent green and orange of the original.

It's maybe hard now to appreciate just what a seismic shift in automotive design this wedge concept car represented, so it's appropriate that toymakers wanted to introduce tiny versions!

I picked up these 2 Escort vans yesterday. Note the late registration madness on the blue one!

I know the later models had fixed rear doors but I've noticed one has the windows blanked out. Also note the different wheel inserts and different coloured rear lights...

The Carabo truly was one of the most important car designs of all time, although it's mostly forgotten now. It set the template for Supercar design which continues to this day. It's one of those cars which weirdly seemed to attract every single toymaker to produce a miniature version. In addition to those already seen, Politoys did a decent 1:43 version in the right colour, though with contrasting headlamps in the 'up' position:

s-l1600.thumb.jpg.c87ae4c390108390e0d17cd94f78ba74.jpg

Solido's version was probably the best of the lot. Right colour, good proportions, nice wheels and opening doors. Headlamps 'down':

s-l1600-2.thumb.jpg.fa9080b149d022791934a524437b6ade.jpg

French Dinky did one (I've never seen one irl)  and it was the wrong colour (there is an Atlas reissue in the correct hue):

filrougeautomobile-00549.thumb.jpg.6a0517c25ab4f285fed64befb7371dfa.jpg

This is an unusual large-scale Togi from Italy. I've never seen a Togi in the metal but they seem to go for silly prices on ebay. Lots of opening bits on this, and accurate wheel design:

Crikey apart from the 1/36 Mercedes 240D and Rancho, I must either have owned or still have most of the Corgi cars in that catalogue, in various states of decay.

The local Safeway supermarket used to sell them and I think it was a STFU bribe to a 3 or 4 years old me from my mum whom was trying to shop!
