Working on the Pininfarina 1800 and I notice bump in the casting, quite unusual to see on a matchbox in my experience (the bonnet)

At Crowley they’d have just wobbed over it....

I’m very impressed with the spec of the time though. I mean, not only wireless and Bluetooth; but HDMI as well !   Shocker

Anyone heard of Kidco?  Not me.  Anyhow, I’ve never seen a slot car Scalextric etc Maserati Bora so spotted this in 1/28 and won it for less than a couple of Quid

It has wonky axles but all complete and ‘glass’ is all intact. Bonus.

Currently in the paint strip bin, awaiting its future. Bit heavy for a slot car though, might just be a static resurrection.  Colour scheme undecided.

Here are its constituent parts

Kidco made 'Keycars' in the early 1980s. I went through 3 of them. The bodies were quite brittle.

Still trying to find a possible Kidcar copy of a Matchbox Sand Digger - I had a black one with the hole in back for the key to go in, can't find any reference to it anywhere...

Boo! Didn't get back to B&M today, so hot HW action will have to wait.

There was a welcome addition to the diecast ranks this weekend, one which I have been after for a while,

IMG_20191005_141720.thumb.jpg.fe62cbd0f5b3a4cdd53f75d68a7f2748.jpg

Surprisingly, there haven't been too many examples of the MK4 XR3i in miniature. Plenty of examples of the MK3 exist, particularly from Vanguards, Vitesse and even a pov spec one from Minichamps with steelies and trims!

The only MK4s I've seen have been of this same casting, in Mercury grey (Whitebox) and Black (triple 9), plus a couple in Diamond white but they don't come up too often. This one came up on eBay as 'used', with slight wear on the outer card and a small crack on the acrylic outer case, but the model itself is brand new, and a fair bit cheaper than the others on offer.

IMG_20191031_130325.thumb.jpg.a5c99ab84c067654ae0aaf7081cbb580.jpg

It's a nice model, a crisper casting than it appears in photos. Stuff like lights, mirrors and wipers are nicely done, as are the heating elements in the rear screen. The wheels are slightly disappointing, Vanguards seem to have had a similar problem with the lattice wheels on the Sapphire Cosworth. It also seems to have an identify crisis; early front bumper, late rear spoiler and wheels, and RST arches and skirts. I like it though, to me it represents what happened to most 3 door MK4 Escorts round our way in the '90s. Smack the front end?- round to the scrappies, slap on a replacement bumper, doesn't matter what year it's from.  Want to upgrade the alloys?- round to the scrappies, pull a set off a later model. Want to pimp up your 3 door 1.3 pop?- round to the scrappies, get a set of skirts from an RST....

Nice interior, good to see door panels and carpets a different colour to the dash, unlike the all-in one colour interiors of the Vanguards. Nicely detailed dash too,

IMG_20191005_142042.thumb.jpg.62b16aaa9dba9c9422ab1f6fe299b289.jpg

Overall, I'm very happy with it, a nice addition to my miniature OSF collection.

IIRC kidco were sold in places like BHS in the early 80's - I remember my parents buying some cars like the bora for cousins one christmas - one was a red muira.

The corgi rockets capri is the james bond OHMSS.

Another recent arrival,

For a few months, I've been proudly* tooling about in a 16 plate Corsa 3 door. Nice enough motor so far (apart from the pissing coil pack) and I wanted to get one in miniature form.

Sadly the Corsa E doesn't seem to have been modelled, but the visually similar D has. I ended up getting this from eBay.

IMG_20191005_144004.thumb.jpg.761a723e20775e70de4fc7a842d97288.jpg

Made by Norev, coming in fancy Vauxhall dealer packaging, and to my delight, in right hand drive with Vauxhall badging.

IMG_20191005_143512.thumb.jpg.6bab6a238a7d6291c8a024e081cd7b4a.jpg

Wheels appear to be a tad on the large side, but are a good representation of the upgrade 17" wheels as fitted to the LE and SRi and as options on the SXi, which this one with its foglights, sporty seats and oval tailpipe, appears to be. As you'd expect with Norev, you get nice little details like discs and calipers under the wheels and tiny Griffin centre caps.

IMG_20191005_143601.thumb.jpg.6cf7c0e7ef9c7104efd78536573577dd.jpg

Again, beautifully detailed inside, the dash and clocks being particularly well done,

IMG_20191005_143734.thumb.jpg.618f5b97c01371002d6376d8cf045311.jpg

Little things like painting the windscreen to represent the automatic wiper sensor makes a sad nerd like me happy as well...

IMG_20191005_143437.thumb.jpg.454d65fd2c60cf563c5387d860fb47ca.jpg

Not the most inspiring of subjects for most of us on here, but to an occasional griffin-licker like myself, it was £8 well spent!

Nice, I have a Norev Insignia and it's a pretty good model. The paint is the best I've seen on a 1/43.

From one Corsa to another. Again I bought this one when I got my Corsa C back in 2002. I would have preferred Flame (read pogweasel) red, as that's what my full size one was , but these Minichamps ones are quite rare, and mainly I liked it as it was more or less the same spec as mine (SXi) with the same wheels, side skirts and front fogs like mine had.

IMG_20190915_152647.thumb.jpg.03d447b2b93f06245bdc026ffac14f16.jpg

IMG_20190915_152554.thumb.jpg.ef4cb3410b0c662176ec7cf10b92262f.jpg

While digging around in the loft, I came across quite a few Vauxhall's I forgot I had...

940330541_2019-02-0920_15_58.thumb.jpg.b1d1924333e77edaa7fb75418400ca5a.jpg

So many Vivas for example, this being the slightly hopped-up Brabham edition, check out the funky go faster stripes!

856028911_2019-02-0920_17_15.thumb.jpg.91db1b6e843b68b3164ce5265c979101.jpg

I have to admit to being a big fan of the HB Viva's coke bottle curves, like an FD Victor in miniature.

1394260151_2019-02-0920_23_03.thumb.jpg.5936fbd9aeba78d4ea0a4dba26d67637.jpg

From the same casting, the posh SL version, with its flash wing mirrors, wheel trims and extra SL badging. I remember the SL had a fairly nice interior with extra gauges and sculptured rear seats.

877174754_2019-02-0920_35_39.thumb.jpg.7ee900717f70a28b6d5f3bae89e55516.jpg

And a bit of a mad one. I ended up getting all of the Vanguards 'Boy Racer' collection when they came out. I did 'tone down' the one I got originally by painting in the black bits on the rostyles, blacking out the bonnet GT-style and removing the boot aerials. I cannot remember buying two, but at least I have this box fresh un-messed with one now, pictured with the toned-down one,

And a few more from the hot-hatch collection, really good to see the differences between the MK2 Astra GTE and SR on the same Vanguards casting. The SR wheels are my favourite steel wheels of all time,

I've always lusted over a MK2 Cavalier SRi, the nearest I got was the occasional use of a 1.8 LX...1613166934_2019-02-0313_24_17.thumb.jpg.7927653beccace5f699fcfa9916fd6ba.jpg

The MK2 Cavalier has to have been one of the best Vanguards castings.

I have the Cavalier CD version from Vanguards, a nice model indeed. But for 80s Vauxhall/Opels, for me its got to be a Gama model. Quite crude by today's standards but so of their time!

Indeed, I have a Gama MK3 Cavalier, bought from Blue Bell garage, our local Vauxhall dealer at the time, when the MK3 was launched. Buggered if I can find it, but it's in that loft somewhere...

I have been scouring eBay lately for Gama models. I'm looking at getting a Corsa B soon, to complete the Corsa line-up (I'm counting the Nova SR as a Corsa A on a technicality...) and those Gama povo spec Astra mk3s are winking at me as well.

I think I have 4 Gama Corsa Bs at the last count. 2 Gsi models, a standard one in that purple colour and a Carabic blue 5 door which is a dealer model.

On that note, I have 2 slightly later Vectra Bs in the same dealer box as the earlier Gama Corsa however they are made by Schuco. I think they were one and the same company at various times throughout the 60s to the 90s but it has much less character. Finely detailed and no opening parts.

I think the later Gamas appeared to be more crude than earlier items of the 1980s. However what appears to be the last produced Gama I have in my collection, a Mondeo is excellent and seems to bring back the fit and finish of the earlier models.
