Here's the latest Hot wheels my son and I have acquired. Nothing too special, but I love the little fairlady.

Never realised they did a civilian one

They didn’t it’s an Eddyramrod conversion.

I like to use enamels, with practice you can get a fantastic finish that’s really tough as well.

Seeing the results the 'pros' get on youtube with airbrushing, and the general control, means I'll probably go that way myself one day.

All depends what you want to spend, a tin of enamel costs £1.50 and lasts loads of cars.

Quite fancy doing the next Mercury as a bit of a beater, rusty arches, mismatched wing etc.

Exactly. Also those hobby acrylics cost the same and you can mix them, add pearlaliser, metallic powder and all sort of tricky stuff. You can thin them with screenwash, which costs a quid for five litres, which should last for a while. The airbrush doesn't care what you shoot through it. I've seen people using even nail polish, which yields fabulous effects, making them suitable for rods and customs.

Any interest in this lot? £15 plus post, or swaps if anyone has anything obscure/hot wheels redlines shaped.

Rare that CoOp version.....bargain for 3 quid!   These Commers all were supposed to have fixed backs unless issued with the demountable chassis (turn screw on base) as part of the Constructor set.   The police vans with flashing lights had removable backs to access the battery carrier though.

Thanks,I remember these from when I was younger but never actually had any apart from a Hong Kong plastic copy of the Police van  :-) .

So I went to a local toy fair this morning. Rude to leave empty handed, right? This is something I'd been after for a while.

Would rather have had the civilian version of this, but whatever.

Normally I wouldn't indulge in repros but for the price you really couldn't argue.

The Dinky Triumph 2000 and 1300 are really characterful pieces and among my favourites in my collection of that era.

These damned bin lorries.

It was my intention to have a little fleet of them in matching liveries, but since the axles, door and tipping bit are all attached with peened bar they are very difficult to strip and paint. So imagine my delight when I botched the first painting (of all three) when the masking ruined the paint it was supposed to protect. They were again stripped and this time sprayed with an unimaginative, albeit municipal, colour. Then I decided I hated them and they were abandoned in a cupboard for six months.

Here they are:

I prefer the green you panted your trucks in. The video gives you ideas on how to remove and re-pin the wheels and rear door.

Cheers - smol Transit now stewing in a foamy corrosive soup as I type. Will retrieve it later this afternoon and report back on progress!

Right, well... hmmm.

I'm going to guess that I either need to use more squirty foam (I had it in there for a good five hours) or that I shouldn't trust Home Bargains' finest 99p oven cleaner...

The old paint is coming off, just quite slowly. But it is coming. Rinse and repeat, I guess.

Yes, it can take weeks to come off, but it will come off and the body will be unscathed.

I had rare American annuals in the sauce for half a year until all the paint was gone, but they were pristine in the end.

Cheers for that - wasn't sure whether a single application of oven cleaner was all going to bring the old paint bubbling off like Nitromors, or just soften the top layer. Now I know, I'll keep going at it to get the rest off.

I'm impressed how smooth the original plastic below seems to be - many years ago, my cackhanded efforts to rectify messily painted Airfix/Matchbox kits using white spirit or thinners just seemed to warp the components, and turn clear plastic bits opaque. I really didn't know it was possible to remove enamel so cleanly.

I may well paint this one again, though... maybe in white, maybe in light blue. Still thinking about it. An airbrush kit may be on the cards... kinda wish I'd bought one years ago when I worked in the model shop, we stocked Revell starter kits for £notthatmuch.

I'm thinking of this as a dry run for my bigger Dinky LWB Transit, which will likely need the caustic soda treatment to bring it back to bare metal.

Stay tooned...

(Though, as far as plastic Transit kits go, I reckon this one is unbeatable)

Absolute stunner, isn't it?

The best thing is, it was built based on pics of 'Purdy', a real-life Transit that appeared on the Autoshite FB page.

As far as I know, the real-life van had some shiters involved in assisting the owner with a sympathetic restoration via crowdfunded bits after a fairly serious MOT fail, though I think that's gone off the boil a bit of late. One day, hopefully...

Oh yes, a GGG delegation in cooperation with members of the NPH is going there pretty regularly. We should definitely meet there next Sunday.
