Note for future reference...  I've decided most of my Matchbox (-sized) cars can go.  It's a vast collection,   Most have been repainted at least once - by me, obviously.  My eyes and hand aren't good enough to do them again.  I've got way too many to list so ask if there's something you want and if I've got it, we can do a deal.  Most will be 50p each plus postage, so it'll make sense to build up a parcel.

Eddy - I'd be interested in a 10a Mechanical Horse, Ferrari Berlinetta (regular wheels) and 27a Bedford low loader. But no rush, and only if you are sure about parting with 'em.

Just picked an "as new" airbrush compressor to have a go at giving some models a blow over

Can anyone recommend a decent starter spray gun/nozzles ect?

Any hints and tips on stripping paint, prepping and thinning?

I will be doing 1/18 diecast mainly so nothing too fiddly

Ta

Edit

After following somebody's link to Hiroboy.com I found they sell the 3 paint colours I need to crack on with my Heat For Hire Manta 400

Also stumbled upon a Legacy estate which will get finished to look like my own....

I'd love to have a go at proper airbrushing, but for my repaints I just use regular cheapo aerosol cans.

Many moons ago I used a cheapo basic Humbrol airbrush on a few projects. That worked just fine, but cheapo aerosols are just as good with less hassle.

For stripping paint off diecasts a strong solution of caustic soda works a treat. When the solutions done with the paint, pour it on any weeds, they wont be back :)

Some say use etching primer is best, but I seem to get away with bogo primer.

Paint thinning will depend on the paint you're using, for enamels, white spirit will do at a push, acrylics it is just water.

At this time of year warmth and dryness is king for whatever paint you're using.

I feel your pain. My eyes and coordination are buggered, even 1/43 is getting a struggle to restore :(

I know Matchbox did a Volvo C30 & I'm interested if you have have one, but appreciate this may be too new for you.

Mechanical Horse: pretty sure I don't have one, sorry.  Ferrari: no problem, I'm certain of at least one.  Bedford: not sure, have to check.  This WILL take forever!

Sorry, you're right, it's just too young.  BTW none of these will be boxed or even blister-packed.

Yo,

Today was mostly spent at Ma_Sterling's yard for Christmas. I didn't receive anything automotive as presents.

However. Many years ago when I began working full time I made quite a bit of money and had no commitments. One of the things I used to do was go on eBay and buy model cars. At one time (about the time I joined this forum for the first time) my bedroom was full of precarious shelves full of these things. But then when a bedroom swap around was done I shoved all of my models into a couple of big wooden boxes and forgot about them.

The other day I remember I had a 1:24 Chrysler Voyager and wanted to find it. Today I when through the boxes to see what I could find...

Box 1:

attachicon.gif20181225_191137.jpg

Box 2:

attachicon.gif20181225_190726.jpg

I'd forgotten I had so much great stuff. 1:18 Autoart Range Rover P38, Renault Megane Sport, Mk3 Ford Escort XR3, Peugeot 205 GTi and even a Chrysler Crossfire! Some really great stuff. Best of all, it's all mine.

I'd decided to bring some stuff with me back home. I think I'll be making an effort to eventually migrate everything back to mine. I took some of the more unusual stuff back with me....

Yeah. Anyway. Further to this I made another visit to Ma_yard today as she needed some help clearing up some rubbish in her newly installed kitchen, plus a couple of old mates wanted to catch up.

I'd decided as I hadn't been brave enough last time to sort through my old box and see if I could see the 1:24 Voyager in there, so today I went back through it. I still couldn't find it.

I did however bring back a smaller haul with me:

Sierras: I've pretty much the whole series of 1:43 Vanguards Sierras (civilian) cars, I only brough theae back with me though this time. White one is Vanguards, grey one is by Vitesse:post-3572-0-66552600-1546122804_thumb.jpgpost-3572-0-68193700-1546122920_thumb.jpgpost-3572-0-53821000-1546123026_thumb.jpgpost-3572-0-20404400-1546123072_thumb.jpg

Espace, don't know who the maker is and V70 XC, again, no idea of maker. Plus it has shed it's wing mirror. A lot of my Volvo models seem to enjoy doing this lately;

W140 S-class, one Schabak and one Siku. Both 1:43s:

I also have a Red Schabak W140.

This made me sad :(

I used to have a real one that I loved until some prick crashed into it :(

Some Bond movie stuff that interesting to me for the cars rather than the films;

Still got loads of really interesting stuff. I just need to know exactly where the other models are.

That Espace is a Solido, that 1/24 Fiesta has serious scene tax on it now, esp as you have the rare right hook issue. Sierra saloon is a Schabak made for Vitesse, bonnet vents tampo printed on, Cossie wheels, 2.0 pinto engine and Ghia badges, NOICE is all I can say, I've put a bid in for a Ford Falcon from Paradise Garage, will see if it gets accepted, it's in Channel 7 News livery

Yep, so true. I vaguely remember buying that model. Well before I even ever knew of the existance of the Mercedes I bought.

One day maybe :| just one day I'll get one again....

Never noticed the Fiesta was a rhd. Also, never noticed the Sierra was just a 2.0 Ghia with Cossie wheels, which is the same as my 1/24 White Sierra. I've actually got a couple of Ford Falcons in the box somewhere, bought for me from Australia. I'll get a pic if I get back there soon.

Picked these two up recently, not keepers, so £8 for the pair posted, before I offer them to the French for pre-Brexit repatriation. Ritmo has a box, but plastic is broken.

Renner paint loss a little worse than this flattering pic, also corner of bumper snapped. Can provide pics.

Just for a change* two more Amis :)

They're not quite finished, blue one needs a rear window and both need the correct tyres.

I've screwed the baseplates so easy to do when the new bits arrive.

Next up will be a 2cv van, it's been stripped and primed, just deciding what to do with it, might be another w aterslide project.

Bought a Matchbox Mk1 Golf today WITH SURFBOARDS INTACT!!! £1 and it’s mint. I nearly had his hand off for that.

I've been asked how I do my waterslides.

What follows is an example of not to rush it :)

This took less than 2 hours including drying time. Take your time and the results are much better.

For this demo I had an old Dinky La Poste van so I thought I'd keep a delivery theme.

I stripped and primed it yesterday:

post-18019-0-36494100-1546268818_thumb.jpg

Waterslide paper is from ebay, this is clear and specifically for inkjet.

post-18019-0-58481800-1546268839_thumb.jpg

Then I stole an image from the interweb:

post-18019-0-67003400-1546269013_thumb.png

And resized it using Open Office:

post-18019-0-09434500-1546268866_thumb.jpg

Print it onto the waterslide paper and give it a couple of coats of clear lacquer:

post-18019-0-32995300-1546268882_thumb.jpg

Paint the van:

post-18019-0-85831200-1546268896_thumb.jpg

And let it all dry a bit. Don't let the lacquer dry too much or it'll be a pain to get the image to release.

post-18019-0-02709800-1546268913_thumb.jpg

Cut out and wet the transfers and apply exactly as you did with your Airfix kits:

post-18019-0-58782400-1546268937_thumb.jpg

Here's todays cock up, choosing a dark logo to go on a dark background, I should have used white waterslide paper :(

post-18019-0-33647600-1546268959_thumb.jpg

Here's a dark logo on a light background:

post-18019-0-50839800-1546268985_thumb.jpg

But if you look at the 2cv in black and white it does have a period feel to it:

post-18019-0-87676900-1546268998_thumb.jpg

And the finished H van, I knocked this together after realising my mistake on ups logo choice just to show what can be done.

My phone number is on the other side. I think I'll do a few more as promo giveaways :)

Thank you, this is one of the things I'd like to get into in 2019. Particularly, as watching Marty's matchbox makeovers on Youtube has shown it is often better to do it yourself.

It's very simple to do, even I can do it.

My problem is driving the imaging software to get what I want, other than that it's simple.

Just take your time and not rush as I did today.

Anyone purchased one of these yet?  They look really good but let down by the rear lights which look pish IMO, even at £150 I am seriously tempted.
