I went to a collectors antique fair this morning which had some toy car sellers including a couple I know.

I only bought two toys

French Dinky Panhard in very good condition

I usually prefer them to have opening bits

Compensation is opening windows

From the same seller a Solido Pug 205 GTI which is pretty much mint

IMG_3240.JPG.b6841262d81bcdcc83b72a06c50d0779.JPG

I don't know for sure, but imagine the generic Solido wheels means it is contemporary with the real car

IMG_3241.JPG.3f0465d06b0ac7c247e8cdeaa284ff9c.JPG

Also made in France

IMG_3242.JPG.2c2d0c526bffe1766c03223ac63b66ea.JPG

I had to rush off again as Mrs Concern and Daughter No1 wanted to go to the Brighton Marina Market where I picked up these

Anyone want them?

Straight into #6 with a load more Mercedes trailers. It's tempting to link them all together like an Australian road train

Never seen one... oh you youngsters!  When I was a roadsweeper many years ago, I did a day as second-man with a contractor, doing things like clearing out council houses that needed refurbishment.  Remember council houses?  Told you I'm old!  Anyway, he had an Albion with the LAD cab.

100_1530.JPG.9fa8f81e3f22520de25afa8cd1959211.JPG

I can't find a more suitable pic at the moment, but this was a damaged and incomplete cement mixer until it came to me.  I have built another that more closely resembles the Albion I remember.  This may mean some photography is required tomorrow.

Main thing is, I have actually sat in one of these trucks.

I meant I'd never seen a Dinky toys Leyland skip (or cement mixer) lorry not a real one. However you are one up on me, I've never sat in one!

Posted

Tbf I was a bit surprised, knowing that we are roughly the same age.  In fact our diecast experience is quite close.  I didn't have the mixer variety until maybe three years ago or so, and although I remember it in the catalogue, I don't honestly think I've seen the skip wagon in the metal.

Oh and guess what?  I forgot to shoot some pics.  Sorry.

I can imagine the skip truck version probably wasn’t the most robust toy in the world. The skip and hangers are very easy to lose or damage. Likewise the lifting boom. It’s exactly the kind of thing that’d get smashed off very easily either by play or getting chucked carelessly into a toy box.
It’s one of the reasons I don’t fancy restoring mine, although it’s rough, it’s original and has survived. Somehow.
I am however tempted to get some replacement black tyres for it to replace the grey ones on it which are a mixture of newish replacements and very old cracking ones. Grey tyres looks a bit odd to me!

Yup, this 205 was produced in the early 90s as part of the Solido 'Today' range - I had one!

It came undecorated with a small sheet of waterslide transfers to add the rubbing strips and badging to the sides. You then had to carefully cut the long side strip with a modelling knife if you still wanted the doors to open.

Ah thanks, it does say 01-88 and wondered if that was month and year. Also it does have full length stickers on the side that stop the doors opening!

Those Dodge livestock trucks must be candidates for having the most colours and colour combos of the Matchbox’s surely?
The first version was a 3 axle too.

Got these for £1 each. The wipers still work on the Pullman Merc and both doors are still intact on the Mini Van. For some reason the Toronado has been tarted up with custom with blue Biro window tints.

Greenlight Mad Max XB is an odd one to be in the mix.

The earlier one is Stake Truck, rather than Cattle Truck. Maybe Steak Truck would have been more appropriate?

The 57 Chevy is a good spot, they often seem to be sans bonnet. I read they were quite an expensive labour intensive model to make. I still have my Milky Way one, and surprisingly most of my teeth…

Certainly one of the longest runs, I think they went from late 60’s up to 2003? Wonder what happens to the old moulds? Do they get stored or just wear out and be binned.

Certainly one of the longest runs, I think they went from late 60’s up to 2003? Wonder what happens to the old moulds? Do they get stored or just wear out and be binned.

I’ve got a few versions of it, including a trailer and the 3 axle original. It just always seemed to be in the range somewhere or other.

The tooling for it could well be in storage somewhere (China??) but I’d expect by now for tooling that’s that old and well used it’s probably worn out by now. They’re usually big lumps of metal so would likely go for scrap if they’re knackered.

Must be one big warehouse they keep all these moulds in. I know ones like the Lamborghini Miura was lent to a firm in Bulgaria and wore out quite quickly. I’m not 100% but I think inside each casting on the seventies ones there’s a number the references which mould it was?

Most probably. If you consider how many different castings and parts there are storing them is going to take up a fair bit of space. Keeping worn out tooling is pretty much pointless. Makes you wonder which ones do still exist but not seen any use for years, or if they will ever get used again.
I do seem to remember some of the old ones having numbers inside now you say. Tooling serial numbers would make sense.

The tooling and moulds for things like this are, or were, quite hard more valuable steel alloys so they will have a decent scrap value if they’re worn out.

The 57 Chevy is a good spot,

I agree, especially in that colour. I bought a mint one years ago but my ex wife kept it as she liked 57 Chevies, just not me...

Right down at the bottom of one tray was a tub of various parts, figures etc that need reuniting with their vehicles, I think I've ID'd a couple but if anyone fancies helping me out here I'd appreciate it!

'Dunlop' motorbike screen at bottom left, and the two black rectangular headlights with yellow stickers, are all off Playmobil motorbikes - think you showed two of them upthread?

The lamp push-fits into the top of the forks, and the screen slides into the groove on the lamps.

The smaller red shell just to the left of the headlamps looks like the ones that came with the Corgi Quad Field Gun - and possibly with a number of other Corgi military models from the mid-70s.

EDIT: sorry, it's not!

The orange lion to the right of the barrels - the one that rotates on the turntable mounted in the back of the yellow Matchbox Rolamatics Ford F150?

Green rowing boat at the bottom - Lesney Ford Corsair?

Farts and Spurious Integra.

Like the casting hate the yellow graphics.

So they got quickly removed.

Much betterer.

Also got the new EG Civic casting from the same series.

Nice shade of green.

The barrels I think are from an MB farm trailer, the engine on a pallet is off a DAF rigid.

I think all three pallets came as a load on the back of a lorry, probably DAF as you say

Ah thank you - typically I sold the other screen with a Britains bike as I thought it was from that one! I'll update my Vinted listing 😁

Yep I agree 100% on those two - I actually tried to nab the boat at the boot sale where I first encountered the seller, but he kept it saying he'd have the car at home. I didn't find it so someone's probably got a mint Corsair missing its boat. I do have a couple of playworn ones it can go on anyway.

Very pleased to find that lion, they are never in the back of the Wild Life Truck. There's a hard to see clear canopy there too, off the green version

I think the Kangaroo comes with the Golden Jacks Hillman, some of the others are familiar but I can't quite place them, the white hunter with a gun, and ambulance patient especially - Dinky I believe, think it's this dude without the frame
