Another 3D printed body arrived this morning!

1:43 Riley Elf/Wolseley Hornet.

Another nice print. A few little bits to sand off but nothing major.
Still a few to arrive yet too!

Great job, the wheels suit it and I’m quite happy you destroyed the cartoon car as I’m not a big fan of them!

I know what you mean about eyesight, I too mentioned it on the thread this morning.

Success!

But I also finally buckled on Colin's range of cut-price Matchbox Collectors' models.

I've been studiously ignoring them for a while now, but today...

Oh well.

Fabulous work. That came back incredibly well compared to how it was before.
Good use of those ‘tooned’ things as wheel donors too, I can’t stand them!

I did give it a good long blast with the hairdryer yesterday after it had cured for a while. I don't think it would stand up to wear very well at all to be honest, but for a static model it should be fine. I do know from bitter experience it's best left alone for a long time before handling, several days at least. I put it together very carefully and tried to only touch the base and wheels for now.

I have seen some alternatives, annoyingly most of them seem difficult to obtain at a decent price outside of America. Temu is hit and miss, not everything does what it promises

I've been looking at this on eBay, obviously no good for plastic bits, and I don't know how hot it needs to get to work Vs the melting point of Zamac

I got one of those Jags in Tesco the other day.  More to the point though, I picked up some primer in Halfords today and used it:

A few months ago I won a French partwork fire engine on eBay. It’s a Renault/Saviem type we didn’t get here but I thought it’d be cheap enough to use as a donor for a few parts then I’d salvage the cab and re-badge that as an MAN as the manufacturers used the same cab design.
I robbed the bits I needed but then decided the remaining bits would make a good project for something in its own right so I’ve started converting it into a wrecker.
Everything is scratch built on the back, and the chassis has a few small mods too.

Transit minibus is now in white primer. It’s come up well so far after all the cutting about and filling.

Another Transit has been through the paint shop too. This one a Vanguard’s mk1 swb diesel version.
Done as a battered end of its life van with worn paint, a different colour door and painted over branding from its previous owner.

These 3D prints just arrived too.

Chevy COE truck cab and a Ford Orion mk1.

IMG_8051.jpeg.5383a14dc85b6595d22e16a05c001c90.jpeg

And this CAT tracked loader, which will become a load for one of my truck trailers.

IMG_8052.jpeg.0b19b2b07762469e191ff78f49c1a918.jpeg

I really can see this 3D printing thing going from strength to strength as time goes by. They’re absolutely fantastic now but with more tech and development it’s going to get big I think.

After spotting an abandoned example near me the other day I've been in full-on Bathtub Taunus mode. As it's unlikely I'm going to find a full-size one for sale any time soon I'm making do with this 1:43 from Tekno.

20250906_123134.jpg.fd09a2bb6f2adda2ba5f197e2c124c65.jpg

It was listed on ebay 'for restoration' but to me this is the perfect amount of playwear for a toy of this age. Still nice and presentable with most of its paint, but clearly well-loved. Like other Teknos of this era it's pretty basic but satisfyingly weighty and the shape is extremely well-captured. The only other Tekno I have is, funnily enough, the Taunus Transit, but all my cars are packed away now so I cant do a side-by-side. I'd love to get my hands on more of these, but they're usually a lot more than I'd be willing to pay (this was a not unreasonable £30, so you can imagine what minters go for). The Volvo Amazons and PV in particular are great and I'll be keeping more of an eye out for them in future...

You can get a car transporter type rear body for the Chevy, but they’re just body prints. The rest is up to you! A lot of them, apparently, get made up for Scalextric slot cars.
I’ll just make a chassis and interior myself, then do the glazing from clear plastic of some sort.
That Riley Elf/Wolseley Hornet I might offer up to a spare Vanguard’s Mini and use bits off that.

Today, I was bored so took a wander over to Carrefour to see what they had in stock. Again, nothing interesting. Seems like the Belgians have taken their eye off the ball.

Here what there was:

Not a great selection. A lot of Matchboxes there, more than Cora but again.

Here is my complete haul from Cora, Carrefour and Pêle-Mêle.

I've got a free day on Monday so will try the flea market in Porte de Halle and see if I can grab the other 1/43 Renaults I've seen and the small 2 € shite I posted above.

I've been meaning to mould a new grill for one of my Norev Renault 12s and a Solido Renault 17 and I had a try out the other day.

1Tu0P4zJ.jpg.ca827f2513981d79d6216eafa55f3f19.jpg

The mould came out ok

IMG_2741.JPG.45a9bcb9eeb7fed5e6e07550f8270587.JPG

I tried Milliput as someone said the detail was good compared to resin

IMG_2739.JPG.9e15688e0dd921fe93106a3f422d9cfe.JPG

And it wasn't bad at all

Test fit

IMG_2742.JPG.9bd7164108deae814d47744068d223fa.JPG

Unfortunately a lot of the detail wore off as I was cutting and filing it and it then broke!

IMG_2743.JPG.729eb4ad61f16bf518b93695c2ed73e2.JPG

The 17 fit quite well, but again the detail wore off so I'll try resin next

IMG_2744.JPG.d80ceff18dfc04e322b395ac283dc197.JPG

A while ago I bought a re painted Spot On Austin Cambridge with caravan for Mrs Concern

IMG_1665.jpg.bb03b3375f932229e41ee1287349ab9d.jpg

It wasn't terrible, just a bit boring and had a few paint chips anyway I decided to paint a white flash down the side of the A60, but the blue paint came off with the masking tape! So a full re paint took place

IMG_2767.JPG.ed17ed195967934354bab167cc41fef9.JPG

I can't say I like the Spot On A60 as a model much, it looks clumsy to me

IMG_2769.JPG.d391086118c9d26687f9e55022ed8dc7.JPG

The red flash was really hard to get looking good as the casting is all over the place. The caravan seems huge as well!

IMG_2769.JPG.d391086118c9d26687f9e55022ed8dc7.JPG

I also bought a plastic Norev Peugeot 404 on ebay with a caravan as well and thought they should be compared

IMG_2770.JPG.234ebed135365304e1f6e00ba1324744.JPG

The rear suspension seems to have settled since I bought it, but it looks right with the caravan on the back!

IMG_2771.JPG.2c184138d1ee6190e91d2cd751a0c282.JPG

The first time I saw a 404 when I was a kid, I thought it was some kind of mutated Cambridge until my dad explained they both designed by the same styling company. I still considered it a rip off though!

IMG_2772.JPG.a804677a881488d57c073bc7fa775c68.JPG

Overall I think the Norev is way nicer

IMG_2773.JPG.d6af906296afaf8f3c9bd013ba9a008c.JPG

IMG_2740.JPG

Edit: It didn't have the blinds in the windows of the caravan, so I had to make them as Mrs Concern particularly wanted them

I can't say I like the Spot On A60 as a model much, it looks clumsy to me

The red flash was really hard to get looking good as the casting is all over the place. The caravan seems huge as well!

I also bought a plastic Norev Peugeot 404 on ebay with a caravan as well and thought they should be compared

The rear suspension seems to have settled since I bought it, but it looks right with the caravan on the back!

The first time I saw a 404 when I was a kid, I thought it was some kind of mutated Cambridge until my dad explained they both designed by the same styling company. I still considered it a rip off though!

Overall I think the Norev is way nicer

Edit: It didn't have the blinds in the windows of the caravan, so I had to make them as Mrs Concern particularly wanted them

Nice work on those.

For your moulds, give 2 part epoxy chemical metal a try! Seriously.
The ones like JB Weld or Araldite do one, that come in two tubes you mix 50/50 into a paste. I tested it with some I had leftover after squeezing too much out of the tube. So far it’s made the best cast yet for me.
Might have to put a thin layer into the bottom of the mould to cover the details, push it in with a blunted cocktail stick then fill the rest of the mould.

Will do. I'll keep an eye out. Second-hand ones should be relatively cheap to find. If you find them, they are cheap compared to the UK where asking is often no less than £35.

The only one I've got so far is the facelift Loeb at a toy fair and it cost (I think) £20, one of these

If you can get me any proper VTS as in my post above, please get it and don't worry I will cover your outlay!

Thanks for your reply...
