Same bloke is waiting outside Entertainer again. Might get my mate to get him in a headlock so I can get in first

That's exactly why I still have my owned-from-new pre-Superfast King Size Mercedes Binz ambulance.

I have a really nice Speed Kings one, but the right door top has been snapped off. Doesn't look too bad with the door closed

Did it bother anyone else that another thing with the opening bits cars was that you often got opening front doors but not opening rears!?

That used to bug me as a kid too. Weird little sod that I was😄

Yep, that bothered me too but as a kid I only ever knew Corgi and Matchbox and thought it just wasn't a thing.

Then I saw my pal Euan's (yep, him again!) AVTOEXPORT Volga model which had opening rear doors! I think the first model I got so equipped was the aforementioned Renault 6 which had opening rear doors WITH frames. I understood that it was only possible to make this as the 6 has unusually thick door frames. The 12 had 4 opening doors but none had frames and I do not like that model at all (if anyone wants a MIB example let me know!)

That was the first and I think only 4 door opening one I ever had.
A cheap but complete one from a boot sale overpainted in green Humbrol. I remember being made up with the full set of opening doors.

That ones long gone, but I’ve got the silver version again now in decent condition.

I’m a huge fan of as many opening parts as possible. It’s one of the reasons I started collecting 1:18 scale.

The Dinky RR is one of my absolute favourites from childhood. When I bought this one recently it brought back the joy I remembered of opening bonnet, full frame doors, split tailgate and even tilting seats!

I had one of those recent-ish but the tailgate used to constantly drop open. Used to really piss me off!😄

No matter what you did with it it’d always open. Even pushing it shut and using the top half to try holding the bottom in place never worked. Within seconds you’d hear the clunk as it flopped open again.

It’s a real pity Dinky went cheap then bust after making such awesome toys like the Range Rover and Zodiac. The Rolls Royce Shadow has 4 opening doors too I think? Must dig mine out.

It’s back on the display shelf and no clunks so far - must have a nice tight rear end! 🤣

Also on the shelf is my mint, never played-with Corniche. Doors, bonnet, boot and tilting seats again to salivate over!

Mrs warch had bought me a present from the little model shop in Ludlow when she went out yesterday. Its a Corgi Classics Scammell Scarab in that slightly odd 1:50 scale that Corgi use for their road haulage models. This is very much peak model for me, nicely detailed but also retains that toy feel so there isn't too much fiddly or unnecessary detail to get damaged.

I also like it because its the sort of thing I probably wouldn't buy myself but is nice to have and look at. I especially love the custard and cream livery with black wheels, very cool, modern commercial vehicles are so dull by comparison.

2 more recent arrivals. The first goes into my ‘cars I had and loved as a child’ category. It’s also a good partner to the JPS-liveried version I had at the same time:

IMG_3874.jpeg.6cd9c40ae5fb646eda4b8bcc64222fac.jpeg

note some of the differences between the cars - yellow glazing, different colour indicator/bumper area.

This morning’s delivery was courtesy of Ali Express. When I was trawling through looking for the SD1 Vitesse I came across this Alfa Stelvio I had no idea existed.

My daily is the second Stelvio I’ve owned as I liked the first one so much.

IMG_3877.jpeg.78b068ef51283fe6723cb084e24edcea.jpeg

The colour is fairly close to the first one I owned.

Liberated these from the 50p rummage tub in one of the local charity shops this morning.

Its been a while since I dabbled with diecasts, but these are surely worth more than 50p each?

Didn't you have to have the front doors open before the back ones would ?  That pisses me off somehow.

Cool model though.

You do indeed, or they clash. For a kid's toy, it's impressive, and a right pain to assemble as several of us have found out

@Tenmil Socket I'll let you know if the Ritmo is available, I'm in a dilemma as I'd bought these for my nephew, he's just starting to get interested in collecting diecasts, and is looking to add to his small collection, & even though he's young he's not fooled with Days Gone type models.

Its been about 10 years or so since I had much to do with diecasts, I used to collect and create authentic code 3 police models, and carry out conversions of models, similar to what  @danthecapriman produces, but life events meant I no longer had the time & also lost interest in the hobby.

Good to hear he’s not fooled by Days Gone😄 good kid!

You got any photos of your old models? I’d certainly be interested to see them.

No problem, I'll have to dig out some models & take fresh pics of them.

I'm not sure if I have any old photos - most of them would have been uploaded to Photobucket & Ive no longer got an account with them (since they started charging a monthly fee)

Definitely interested to see them, but don’t bust your ass trying to dig them out if they’re not easily accessible.👍
It’s always interesting to see other people’s handiwork.

@FakeConcern I see you have a Norev Renault 6, that has to be one of my favourite models. Everything opens, folding back seat and adjustable front seats. I always thought the model recreated the practicality of the real car. Also, the whole door frame opens, something which I loved as a kid as most cars with opening doors left the frame in situ. That made my teeth itch as much as @danthecapriman !

I always wanted the Dinky model though, as per the 'Toy Cars' book, it only had opening doors but like the Norev, the whole frame was included in the play!

Also @FakeConcern  have you got a Dinky R12? I have an Atlas one, I'd say its my pick of R12 models.

Actually, scrub that, I see you have a Pilen which I think is the same thing?

Is your Norev R6 plastic or metal? They made both versions of quite a few cars including the R12, but I don't have many of each. My R6 is plastic and I have no idea if they did a metal one as well.

I don't have a Dinky R12 and would like one, but was under the impression it was a Solido and I only have a Solido R12 as an estate.

I don't think the Pilen R12 is anywhere near as nice as the Norev as it has opening front doors only when the Norev has all four doors and boot and bonnet in both metal and plastic versions. I don't care that the window frames don't open.

I really like any toy car with opening everything and I'm trying to think which ones I had as a child. I think it was;

Corgi Mini Magnifique, Jaguar E Type 2+2, Ghia L6.4.

Dinky: Cortina Mk2, Escort Mk1, Volvo P1800, VW Variant.

I'm very excited as I've just done a deal on a model I've been looking for forever, with little real hope of finding one in acceptable condition. In the early 70s, probably for a birthday, my parents gifted me a Dinky Rolls Royce Phantom V - the lasting memory is that it was a kit, not a fully-assembled scale model. I spent time carefully painting it with the Humbrol enamel included and built the car up. With opening boot, doors (suicide doors on the rear) and double-sided bonnet along with a chauffeur and jewelled headlights this was the pride of my early collection. I've since found very poor examples of completed versions for sale, easily identified by the odd shade of blue Dinky saw fit to provide. They mostly look like this:

DINKY TOYS ROLLS ROYCE PHANTOM V LIMOUSINE CAR No 152 VINTAGE DIECAST MECCANO - Picture 2 of 9

I've been considering buying one and restoring it, but there are usually parts missing or broken - the Spirit of Ecstasy on the large front grille rarely survives.

I could hardly believe my eyes when I spotted an unopened kit for sale, so have snapped it up. It should arrive next week:

Dinky 1001 Rolls Royce Phantom V Kit Complete sealed in excellent packaging - Picture 1 of 6

My dilemma now is whether to open this and build it given it's over 50 years old as I doubt I'll find another like it. I really want to display the model, though, not the unopened kit.

You may have noticed few of the Solidos have some giffer special home-made number plates. Our old tinkerer didn't stop there though. Dinky Range Rover looks very smart in the box

Some crackers in that last set! The Strada is lovely. Interesting the blue RR is a Silver Shadow. I'm wondering if it was an early Corgi release reflecting the model designation between 1965-1971 before the Corniche was launched in 1971?
