Have you seen this. Probably be silly money judging by the price of their Land Rovers. I want a red one with white wheels.

Twisted are limbering up to do custom new Jimnys too. Think they are waiting for the 4 doors to land in the UK. I do the odd bit for them where I work.

EDIT

I took a toy  scale model to work day and modified it a tad. It's the HW new Model A on some Jimny dial faces to keep it topical.

I have used all three Colour Shifts on Corgi Stingray C3 customs and I was very impressed with the results, you need the black primer/undercoat on first.

Cosmic Blue on the Whizzwheels version.

Galaxy Green on the Convertible.  Annoyingly I took all three out of the display case in one go, dropped this one and  chipped the hood/bonnet, touched it in with a Sharpie! I'll have to see what it looks like in daylight.

I've done colourshift paint before but took the hard route of thinning nail polish and airbrushing it. Almost impossible to capture the effect, cameras seem to see the black undercoat while our eyes see the iridescent colours

And now for something completely different!

IMG_8263.jpeg.4f2924c29b0fce5030d5b7c7033bff32.jpeg

Backstory to the paint is these are both my trucks, the orange Arcos is a functional tipper and 6x6 wheel driven, and as good as finished, the Volvo FH12 was a single axle kit thats now twin front steer, four axle on airbags. It’s a work in progress, and I slowly funnel some cash its way every payday (Don’t tell the Merc!).

It drove itself up there happily, though its unloaded in that picture. Below thats 10kg (half a bag of cement) on the weighbridge!

IMG_3214.jpeg.8767a4c540ee8cbe86b9bf9e9b82b3a5.jpeg

Like I mentioned, Volvo work in progress so mechanically all done, it has a single speed gearbox as the twin steer gets in the way of the 3 speed gearbox these normally have. The body is next, it had a quick blow over, but really needs a roof chop/ channel when I get brave.

IMG_6160.jpeg.cbb0201d8d8afadb6ad4e1455097fa2a.jpeg

It’s a cut and shut Bruder trailer body, balanced on a box of siku, the tail ramps are now alloy and fully functional raise and lower - somebody far more talented (Piggy Taylor) machined them!  Spot the fake quad airbags, which do have springs inside them and do compress. Alloy wheels too. I know it’s not real world Lorryist, but what the hell!

Those are absolutely incredible! I’ve seen similar things on YouTube, usually in Germany, where they set up huge ‘sand boxes’ like that and just spend hours digging, loading and dumping all the materials. They do it for r/c military vehicles too.

What scale are they?

I recently procured a Matchbox SuperKings Range Rover. Received today:

20250606_231722.jpg.bb1d9b95833fd1529a51237b884f66dc.jpg

20250606_231735.jpg.967ef144e4976cadb03431f7ccccff7e.jpg

(Note* the tailgate does close properly, I just didn't push it all the way)

It's a nice model, not bad in terms of proportions. I like the wheels.

But the lack of detail has always annoyed me somewhat.

Firstly, the model got a wash, t-cut and polish. I don't usually go this far with models, but this one really needed it, the bonnet and roof looked like they'd not seen even a wipe over to remove settled dust, ever. The paint on those areas was quite matted. It's a bit shinier and looks a bit cleaner. Next was detailing, a black sharpie to sort out that floating roof Range Rovers of that era often came with. The rear lights look like they've have a dab of red paint so I left them as they're OK.

The wheels has its inserts blackened but this was a tad crudely done. My fine marker didn't want to play ball so I had to use something a bit thicker, then go over the edging bits with a Molotow chrome pen.

20250606_235245.jpg.ff61f41707495c68f49e7ca8d4694228.jpg

20250606_235257.jpg.51e359709280636b3d125f7950d98631.jpg

It's not a bad effort from a distance. It'll do until I decide to tidy up the efforts once I get some better pens.

On this model, I liked the mudflaps detailing:

20250606_235425.jpg.3c2f3733d580e3980f4e3ba0fa20e77c.jpg

20250606_235442.jpg.4e4ed4a2c12ed1b2ef71644c73fb4040.jpg

It's a nice little touch and good to them all still intact.

Who does the Range Rover better then?

Corgi, Matchbox or Majorette?

20250606_235323.jpg.bc5c1c8ee3a6f3f849f010258346e7b6.jpg

20250606_235507.jpg.0eb58141f51aeb8069010a5175de22f7.jpg

My vote goes to the Corgi. It's the best proportioned Range Rover there, it's chunky and the earlier versions, like mine here, do have the floating roof detailing etc... the Majorette is by far the worst. It barely looks like a Range Rover and despite my detailing efforts, it just never looks any better.

The Majorette one (with the red interior) thus, is for sale. Chuck me a derisory offer with £3.50 postage and it's yours.

I think the Dinky is rather good too, although it represents a much earlier version

Surprising but good to find the BMW in our small local Tesco.

Off to a nearby toy fair this morning. New venue, apparently sharing/merged with an antiques/collectibles fair - not predicting great things, let's see.....

Matchbox for whatever reason couldn’t call the Police Patrol a Range Rover, even though it obviously was, then they brought out the King Size Range Rover in the late 70’s. Perhaps at the 11th hour they couldn’t get the licence agreed so had to drop the RR name? But then got it resolved later?

I did these Rover 75s in Tamiya PS colour-shift paints. Those Rustoleum ones look like an interesting alternative in different colours and the cosmic blue seems similar to an MGR Monogram paint.

A mixture of Ammo Mig weathering mud/dirt paints, dirty washes & weathering powders.
Designed really for military models but works equally well here on site equipment. The aim of the game really is to create a muddy manky mess! Spatter it all over anywhere that’s likely to get muddy. The powders are dry brushed on while the base paint is still tacky so it adds texture to the paint but also sticks.
Once it’s all dry I’ll use a stiffer brush to dry brush over it all to blend it together and knock off all the excess.
Added the painted on vehicle number too. Tried to make it look hand done, which of course it is!

Ill use some thinner mud paint to do the tyre treads later too.

All the paint & powders are starting to dry now and the colour is starting to come through. I’ve also ‘flicked’ some light mud colour onto it all over aiming up from the bottom to look like splattered muddy water from bombing around on a site. Did the same to the windscreen unit but added a wiper arc mask to leave a clean spot.
Front wheels are now back on after swapping the originals for a different style. They’ll need dirtying up later once the glue sets.

IMG_7236.jpeg.a3615b1d98b161d2216f0633c4e1f45f.jpeg

I did more to the inside of the tipper too. This bit would be a right mess on a real truck so nothing to lose by going heavy!

IMG_7237.jpeg.517dd95159548aecbcad938c49dd0fb3.jpeg

Shows how adding paint and dirt highlights details too. You can really see the springs here, but before when it was clean you could barely see them.

Norwich toy fair relocated to Attleborough due to a clash of dates with the usual venue. I think most of the usual sellers were there, just scattered around differently.

Managed to avoid spending too much, but happy to have found both boxed Superfasts and some Majorettes. I don't really know any of the sellers as such, but it seems I'm sufficiently regular and my tastes predictable enough that the seller with the Renault 5 and VW said he thought I'd like them. The R5 is a nice replacement for the one I lost/got taken from me at primary school, nearly 50 years ago........

Very few boxed Superfast there but great to get this pair, both new to me. Neither anywhere near mint, but they weren't particularly expensive either.

Two more ticks on the list I first started going back in 1991. Note the prices I paid for a lot of them in those early days! They were probably more genuine and in better condition than those I'm getting now. I know there are some gaps that will never be filled.

The colour is nice, and the body mods are well modelled, but the wheels look a bit on the small side. Nothing like the wheels on the real car either, as that had a set of large diameter gold cross spokes on.

A new branch of Home Bargains opened this morning out of town, and I wanted to get in early doors to see what they had.

16 pegs full of Hot Wheels - we're as far along as the 2025 H-Case here, with quite a few Mini Vans and BMW 635s, but nothing that I haven't already seen (and nabbed).

Tesco had very little to interest me today, and neither did Poundland or Poundstretcher.

Mooched over to Holywood (partially so I could see how the Avensis felt at motorway speed after getting its new belts and tyres - pretty damn good, as it happens), and although Stewart Miller didn't have much new, I did take some pics of the Car Tuned vehicles that @bunglebus had clocked in the background of a pic I took a few months back in this store:

They're kind of like big Micro Machines - not mega-cheap at a fiver a throw, but quite nicely done.

All eight from this Series 1 collection were there, though some were down to their last example.

Daresay there'll be somewhere nearby that has these, if not via the web.

I then shuffled round the corner to the antiques and collectibles shop, to marvel at the wide range of pricing on offer...

Capricious doesn't cover it.

There's signs everywhere saying NO PHOTOGRAPHY, so I couldn't bless you with a pic of the mid/late '70s Dinky Cadillac Ambulance on plastic speed wheels with no front end and not much paint, but still inexplicably priced at £35.

Or the good-to-average Lesney Merryweather fire appliance that had a '£25' sticker on it.

The Darda buggy in the above sneaky-pic was either £6 or £9 (I wasn't sure which way up the sticker on the base was meant to read), while the trashed 2000s Matchbox Baja Beetle was £4, like the various Hongwells and some of the other Lesneys.

But - I came away with these two.

US Matchbox releases - the No.57 Mini Truck being from the dog days of Lesney, and in a colourway we didn't see in Blighty, while the No.44 Chevy 4x4 Van is the same as the one I had as a kid, and heavily played with (it was one of my favourites).

Not cheap-cheap at £8 each, but then they're not getting any cheaper...

Posted

Some more pics after some had a bath. Will be picking out what I’d like to keep and the rest will be available.
