One of the nicest I think of the Spot-Ons is the Humber Super Snipe Estate Car

Bagged this example off here and the some-lad-in-the-distant-past applied decals are staying!

A Corgi Dinky Humber Hawk popped over, creating some excitement.  So much so, Station Officer Steele was seen larking about

I must be one of the few people who doesn't get all the fuss. They're nice, but no different to some of the other castings around at the time.

That's not to say I don't like them, I have a few, including a trio of Beetles. This one needs help

Spot-On Volkswagen

The second is not in bad shape, all things considered

Spot-On Volkswagen

The third is my favourite though, as somehow I've managed to keep hold of the blue one I'm pretty sure I bought at a jumble sale as a kid, despite almost all my other childhood cars being lost now

Spot-On Volkswagen

I agree I've always preferred Corgi for looking more realistic. The shut lines that stick out bug me.

Some are a bit off, like the gawky too-tall-for-its-length Mini Van.

Or the afforesaid Anglia and A40, that are nearer 1:40 than Spot-on at 1:42 as they said on the tin

Interesting scale fact I didn't know.

Picked up the New-Ray (the light red one) cheap, meaning to utilise the screen for the Franco Dinky, but it's a bit too nice on its own after all!

That reminded me I have a Spot On Merc somewhere, now I need to find it.

I’m starting to feel left out, I’ve never owned a Spot-On… not even held one in my hand ☹️

There were only 3 Corgi Whizzwheels amongst the stuff I got at auction.

DSCF6920.JPG.f88d93c11c7a30b69e872f916bac3264.JPG

First up is a silver Miura. This one should have stripes on it, but they are long gone, along with thejewelled lights.

DSCF6921.JPG.db2c4e09a9714f37a734c42842fc88f1.JPG

Engine casting is great on these.

DSCF6922.JPG.2332fc2cdec9c8408b8948609e3dff10.JPG

This later version has a cast spare wheel in the front.

DSCF6923.JPG.8bf32cf096ea8f2cfd08b3165ab08d3c.JPG

Next is this battered and repainted Marina.

DSCF6924.JPG.3970058d0cede7b882ab31db286c687d.JPG

It was covered in mud, but I gave it a good wash.

DSCF6925.JPG.748c2ca00212bfde831627b2e78a3e10.JPG

A good donor for bonnet and doors.

DSCF6926.JPG.2f8ede6a4e357a07f23e0e2ddd5390d5.JPG

Best of teh bunch is the tele-dial Renault 16. I had a metallic red rubber tyre version when young.

DSCF6927.JPG.2f8fb880925bbe0969827371539120c2.JPG

Still has spare under the bonnet.

DSCF6928.JPG.ee441d575afdc6645226416c508160bb.JPG

And tow hook is still good.

DSCF6929.JPG.011608a2a3fe6977dd13ad6db0c315f9.JPG

Parcel shelf and seats still go up and down.

DSCF6930.JPG.39680dc2d095140c4d9147c17d4e38a0.JPG

Lastly is this, the only bit of chinesium in the lot. It's a Tootsie Toy '57 Chevy. Scale is around 1/36.

DSCF6931.JPG.bd71a5b3e0759180ddcdd67182a249b4.JPG

It has a few chips, but is not to bad.

Aha, I wondered if we'd see that one. Found in one of my local charity shops (where there has been nothing of interest for some months now, after getting a number of good things there over the years).

I'm another who has no strong feelings about Spot-On. I don't remember having any when I was young and the name meant nothing to me until I'd spent time here in this little corner of the internet.

Aside from picking up some Hot Wheels that I like for whatever reason, I was focusing on trying to find models of cars I’ve owned. A recent spot at a local market now has me looking for Corgi/Dinky cars I had and played with as a kid. I’ve bought a couple of nice examples in the past weeks, 924 arrived today.

Ha, of course it isn't - it's the big plastic version from those cheeky chappies at Lucky Toys.

Corgi Supra, now for the most part I think Superkings have the edge in this size casting, but this thing is loaded with features, pop-up lights operated by pushing the suspension down, opening doors and tailgate, lifting parcel shelf and tilting seats. Brilliant

That can be addressed; you're close enough to make a visit up here a simple daytrip.

As Terry said in American Graffiti: come in, I'll let you touch it if you like.  Even the Humber!

After a bit of a dry patch with the auctions lately this week has been quite fruitful with bargains, and just look at all those MoYs I can take a hammer to (obviously after I have checked that there are no rare colour variations).

Green thing is a plastic Hong Kong friction drive Mercedes 190 SL. No makers name.

Matchbox sub-series Choppers, introduced 1972-3, to rival Hot Wheels Rumblers it would seem

Chop Suey was one year only, 1973.  Valve covers on the injected V8 are stamped ANGUS

LS49b-03bxI.jpg.15445ed72f2295222e5e684af172f3dd.jpg

Stingeroo was produced 1972-75.  Valve covers on the carb V8 are stamped LlEDO

LS38b-f02bxI.jpg.1c0930af2a93e2fd336793fd38e1f3c8.jpg

Jumbo Jet, 1973-76.  No valve covers as it looks to be running a Wankel...

LS71b-prabxIa.jpg.443b1e53808a42b23c5f7cacf871a770.jpg

There were other ideas for the Choppers range...

LSx30-praa.jpg.1841adda37a0f698d67969de7d32bc3d.jpg

...but never made production.  What's that - an aircooled flat twin pair sharing a rootes blower?

LSx29-praa.jpg.2a299f600c685ec8d9c4e2e8b14f653c.jpg

...hmm.  Fuel cell electric?

LSx28-praa.jpg.8c6dcd164af7b66cd25a009cbb826e55.jpg

Maybe a donor frame could be built to run the Radial from this

s-l1600(1).webp.55817a600035b99db66ab93725a2c0d1.webp

And why?  Because they are roughly 1:32 and Tom's Angels will love it

They’re pretty hard to find those choppers now. I think toy safety legislation saw them off.

I made a start on the Bburago Renault 14 @FakeConcern sent me (Visa in the background will come next)

It's not in great shape but for a quid/free (can't remember) it is worth a shot. I've already got 2 other Bburago 14s in VGC but they're quite hard to find so I'm sorting this one out. Plus I'm still motivated  by how well the wee Fiat turned out and that was worse than this one.

Using the same process to kick me into gear with the Fiat, I did something about the wheels. No before pictures but the axles were mangled and 2 yellow centres were missing. I turned to my poor old childhood Fiat 124 as I knew it had 4 good wheels and axles. It's already donated bits to better another 124 that I think Peter sent me last year.

It instantly lifted (literally!) the car:

What do you do about the missing bits, like the Visa’s front end? I wouldn’t imagine spare parts are easy to find for these?

Yeah there's only one other for sale in the world and it's £80 😂

Ideally I'd 3d print it but I need Mrs_Pin to do it and she's really busy with other things at the moment. So I'm going to try Plasticard. I built an entire Citroen Mehari body out of the stuff in the 1990s and it looked good (never finished it though but I still have it!) so the cuboid shapes in the Visa front bumper shouldn't be too hard. The original lights were a grey metallic plastic rather than lenses and they're also flat so they will be quite easy to replicate.

The 14 is easier as only the steering wheel is missing. I'm going to try P38 to fill the hole in the front bumper. I try to keep costs to a minimum as these are worth very little (but a lot to me!)

I suppose another option would be try casting one, but you’d need another one from somewhere to get the mould from.
Plastic card should work, that’s how I did the grill and front end on my Dodge 50. Takes time though!
