Was looking at Spot-Ons on eBay, they are seriously expensive for one in fair-condition.

They certainly are. Generally they’re a chunk above Corgi and Dinky prices. Although they are often nicer models imho. There’s something about Spot-On’s that other brands don’t have. Somehow.

I was thinking about getting myself one, particularly the MG 1100 but at the prices they command it'll be a long time, if ever I get one.

They are definitely worth getting if you see them at boot sales or wherever at non eBay prices.
Even if the bumpers etc are broken, you can get reproduction replacement ones so it’s not the end of the world.

The 1100 is a great looking model too. I did have one but passed it on to @flat4alfa

The ones still here (somewhere!) are:

Rover P5.
Ford Zodiac.
Ford Zephyr.
Commer Walkthru.
Austin Cambridge.
Vauxhall Cresta PB.

All lovely models!

After looking at Ebay prices I still can not believe that no one else bid on the ones I got yesterday. I was expecting to get out bid with my limit being £60.

I keep an eye on the Beetles when they pop up - one in complete, but playworn condition just sold for about £60. Maybe if I win the Euromillions I'll buy this one

F**k me!😄

The trucks and bus are always expensive too if you can find them. Closest I’ve ever come was a wheel-less trailer from the Thames Trader (I think).

You did well on those. I’m surprised nobody else didn’t outbid you too. They’re not in bad condition either.

As Spot On have been mentioned and I was rather jealous seeing the bunch @MiniMinorMk3 got for a bargain price, I decided to asses my collection with a view to renovating a few of them.

First my childhood ones. I also had a Cresta PA and Armstrong Siddley Saphire but don't have them now and no idea what happened to them, also had an MG 1100 and an Anglia, both very bashed up and now with @flat4alfa

The Rolls was green and silver like one like @MiniMinorMk3 has just picked up. No idea what happened to the wheels of the TR3

IMG_1655.jpg.cbf8b6b6227eff81fa345c4e54c72de3.jpg

I'm thinking I'll restore the Thames Trader and try to match the original blue as seen underneath

IMG_1656.jpg.dc363febb329efa299335ef794b7ba80.jpg

Here's the ones I've picked up

A couple of nice Fords, I really wanted one to paint, but these are too good

IMG_1657.jpg.f065a3a18566be7d9b82fc04921e418f.jpg

I bought the grey Cresta intending to paint it like the one I had as a kid which was orange, but it has a blue interior which is unusual and wouldn't look right. The pink one I bought on ebay thinking it was the colour of my childhood one. It isn't! I may paint the grey one yellow.

IMG_1658.jpg.28958c2c710a49395e69d6a0277652b9.jpg

These are nice, but the Humber has a repro grill that looks too bright, I may try to dull it down by dry brushing it

IMG_1662.jpg.e0657e4b7836a80fb8c1bd9ed02588e0.jpg

The PB Cresta and the NSU look quite good and would be better with some minor work

IMG_1663.jpg.f45a03dee79331cd5c5a0d288c9fb3d6.jpg

IMG_1664.jpg.18e9b6ba11088d972d98c33f19ebb4e9.jpg

I got this combo for Mrs Concern and have been meaning to paint a white stripe down the side of the Cambridge and tidy up the caravan, but not got around to it yet

Volvos

IMG_1666.jpg.07dcca878ffc21b3c88f7b47203b769f.jpg

I was intending to restore the Amazon, but the rally look has grown on me so I'll probably just fit a grill and re paint the bonnet in matt black a bit better

IMG_1667.jpg.e344ced4ba5bcadb4c6bafaf24dc7e90.jpg

My original 1800 was turned into a London Sidney Marathon replica by the young me so I had intended to paint the blue one I got from @danthecapriman red and keep the original one but replace the bonnet and glazing etc. However the blue one is too good and it'll stay as it is.

IMG_1668.jpg.ca38b98e0a6e95be81146d3497e82d43.jpg

I'll look out for another one in red or bad enough to paint

IMG_1669.jpg.998f653776d557111a1659564f535c93.jpg

These were all bought to replace lost childhood toys, the Armstrong Siddley will have the roof painted black, the others will be stripped and painted

Spot-On Morris 1100

Even I've got a couple of those Morrises...

It's the MG 1100 that is the scarce one

Unfortunately the GB sticker was lost during the clean, and the silver trim was compromised by the thinner

Great effort on resurrecting your one!  Look like it need a bit of work to the optic looking at the 'missing' N/S rear light, but you are in luck :

Quote

100L Ford Zodiac white plastic battery box with connectors (no bulb) £6.00
100L Ford Zodiac battery box clear bulb      £1.30
100L Ford Zodiac clear plastic light delivery bar (front to rear internal part)      Each  £1.60
100L Ford Zodiac Red plastic rear light unit    Each  £0.90

The battery holder repros are a bit flimsy but work ok and cheap.  The one back here had to have one fitted yet otherwise great condition, unlike its Corgi sister example available on the day this shot was taken

Was going to get one for the Spot-on Rover P5 and make a good one of the two.  But both were also sold-on during last years long disastrous period of unemployability

Loved playing with this Spot On Rover as a kid (and still do to be honest) because of the brilliant suspension.

This car is fitted with Flexomatic independent suspension I love that text on the base.

No the people are missing from both 1800s and I don't remember the one I had from new ever having people, but there are holes in the seats showing they must have been there. I think I've said before that as a kid I always removed the people from my toy cars.

Nice Rover!

The suspension is a strange one on Spot on as I was always fascinated that some like the Landcrab had plastic springs moulded as part of the interior and some like the A40 Farina had tiny steel coil springs despite the leaf springs cast into the base!

I must be one of the few people who doesn't get all the fuss. They're nice, but no different to some of the other castings around at the time.

That's not to say I don't like them, I have a few, including a trio of Beetles. This one needs help

Spot-On Volkswagen

The second is not in bad shape, all things considered

Spot-On Volkswagen

The third is my favourite though, as somehow I've managed to keep hold of the blue one I'm pretty sure I bought at a jumble sale as a kid, despite almost all my other childhood cars being lost now

Some are a bit off, like the gawky too-tall-for-its-length Mini Van.

Or the afforesaid Anglia and A40, that are nearer 1:40 than Spot-on at 1:42 as they said on the tin

I suppose I should weigh in a few Spot-Ons, shouldn't I?  A40... but isn't that caravan a bit big for it?

Crabs by Spot-On and Dinky...

100_1516.JPG.2d43c7f98451c42cd513ebc23568f472.JPG

Just a handful from the archives!

I remember them new.  I remember receiving them for birthdays and Christmas.  They did seem a bit special compared to Corgi and Dinky, even though they never had any American cars in the range.  I had all the colours of mk3 Zephyr, none of which survive.  I had the Armstrong Siddeley and Rover P5 which went, respectively, to Marvin's Mom and Mercrocker formerly of this parish.  The Humber, A40 and several others I've restored were with me from new, so you can imagine the life they led.  I could have looked after my toys better... still, I'm making up for it now with the survivors.

A chipped but almost complete model of the 1961 Rolls-Royce Phantom V that our late Queen was ferried about in

WP_20231004_17_50_59_Rich.thumb.jpg.d5aac8bcf9abd0cf5cfbac156d2e4791.jpg

Needs a boot lid, rear bumper corner, the Royal Crest, some tyres.  Spot-On just named it 'Royal Rolls Royce'.

The real thing was known by 'Number One State Car', as per usual.  Saw it at Sandringham and it looked lush in its 'Bible Black over Royal Claret' paint

Replaced by the bomb-proof (literally) 1977 Phantom VI built for the Silver Jubilee, until the introduction of the two Bentley State Limousines for 2002 Golden Jubilee.  Saw Queenie and Phil in one when she travelled up to visit the Zoo nearby in 2017.  That looked proper lush.
