I don't think the Chinese give a

Talking of Chinese, I don't know what they glued the paint onto this Land Rover with, but it did not want to come off in the corners of the base and in detail areas. I haven't had to resort to the wire brush in the Dremel in ages.

Nice detail job on the casting, didn't know it had a registration

Just realised this was made in Thailand, not China. Might explain why it seems better quality than the others I've messed with

Nice. Shiny!

Those wire brushes for the Dremel are a nightmare for flinging the wires off everywhere. I used one yesterday and kept finding the wires stuck in my clothes and hair all evening.

I remember TK Maxx having a load of them, maybe ten or fifteen years ago.

(Actually, maybe longer ago than that.)

I wasn't really in a diecast phase at that point, and felt they were kinda pricey at £3/£4, back when basic Matchbox, Hot Wheels and Majorette were all still sub-£1.

Needless to say, I've since re-evaluated my position...

Think the only one I've owned was this dull-as-ditchwater K-platform Dodge Aries, plucked from a Tat Box in early 2019.

Really odd little collection, but I'm glad it exists.

That is sooo lovely. If ever you want to sell, please let me know.

An unbranded model of a Mercury Bobcat, a badge-engineered Ford Pinto. Irritatingly, it's missing a front wheel. The only marking on the base is '8006 China'

What happened to the Motormax Bobcat?  Still got it?

Sadly not; I believe that one went back to the market stall as part of my unavoidably haphazard pre-house-move clearout in early 2022.

It was also from the smaller Fresh Cherries range, in 1/87 scale - the Aries was 1/64 (or thereabouts).

I only use them outside as I worry the cat will get one in her paw or something. It's bad enough using a small wire brush in the sink and finding the bristles everywhere afterwards

Probably a good idea. It’s annoying having them stuck in your fingers (or neck in my case!) so wise to keep away from where animals go.
I was in the garage doing it and you can hear all the bristles pinging off. The brass brushes are even worse, they shred bristles in no time.

Strip paint in seconds with pure dichloromethane... get it online  ,  stings  like mad if you get it on your skin though .

Oh that 1:64 range of US Domestic chod is a new one on me.

I have 2 smaller Fresh Cherries though, I bought them from ebay in 2010, just before that really bad snowfall started. I got an 84 Tempo and 84 US Escort. Really detailed wee things, separate light lenses and so on. When you compare them to a 1/76 Oxford (and the price)  they suddenly look better value. True US Autoshite and of 100% more interest to me than a muscle car.

The only other equivalent is the Majorette Oldsmobile Omega, an athsmatic 4 cylinder mall car of the early 1980s. This must take the award for the most obscure choice of car by the most utterly unlikely toy manufacturer. Surely the Omega is something nobody in France knows about? However, I'm wondering if Majorette had an eye on the US market as they made quite a number of American cars, although these were more of an expected variety, such as  Caprice cop car, Chevy breakdown truck, Chevrolet ElCamino or a Fox body Mustang.

Either way, I'm so glad Majorette made one as nobody else did!

I’m sure I’ve got that Oldsmobile. Wasn’t it only ever released in blue?

It is a nice model. All metal too I think?

I had this exact Jaguar as a kid, I remember the combination of soft suspension and plastic tyres made for excellent skids on the parquet flooring!

Found.  Well, Leon the Legionnaire found it.  Needs bumpers.

Well, there was the 2.8 V6 version that would sprint to 60 in 9 seconds, even through that 3 speed automatic box.  The same motor was beefed a tad more in the Chevy Citation X-11 as well.  We forget... in 1982 'we' still had the Morris Ital.

Point taken though - am also glad Majorette were bold enough to model it.   Two examples here, each fitted with a different wheel set, increasing my separation-anxiety when it comes to slimming-down the collection

Then the Hot Wheels Chevrolet Citation X-11 just HAD to get in on the action, being a sister car an'all

20250217_205350707_iOS.jpg.89a6536f2d6df3776a161e8ba893bead.jpg20250217_205416963_iOS.jpg.0dc5717fc220f9029bcba9fc8b73919b.jpg20250217_205331112_iOS.jpg.cc75b59f6f8b1e57a95c01ab761c6147.jpg

Majorette stated 1:75 scale underneath.  The Citation is a few scales smaller, so moved it about a bit to fool the camera

Seems that the standard of fit and finish on Superkings of this era were a bit dubious - I had a MIB BMW 7-Series with a bonnet that just wouldn't close. Flippin' annoying.

I think I may have that now, the whole bodyshell is warped. Not with zinc pest, just poor quality!

Weirdly, both my burgundy Jag and the white one that I think @FakeConcern now has, are OK. Although the bonnet has never opened very far on any example I've owned.

The Hon. Evelyn Ellis was the first when he imported a Panhard et Levassor into Britain in June 1895

That's right, a very tight fit and barely opens (Oo Arr Mrs!) I didn't realise straight away that it opened at all.
