Late, late birthday present arrived yesterday, Tamiya 956 1/10 kit. All pieces will live in box till spring time though, as it needs good weather for painting.

Nice! 1:10 scale is huge!! Biggest I ever had was a 1:16 scale tank kit which was massive.

Happy Birthday too btw🥳

I’ve had quite a delivery of cut price 1/36 Corgis recently, all bought filthy or in crushed damp packaging for just posh hotwheels money. First up the scrubbed up mini catalogue no 200 from 76-78. These are subjective to different colours but I like these blue ones and the silver from the same period.

Next up the Matra/Talbot Rancho. seen with the Sierra, but we see plenty of them on this thread, so thats its only snap!

I had both this Rancho and the Superkings as a kid, quite favourite with a lot of play value with the folding seats and tailgates. Just the mini above was a long lived casting in many colours, even though the whites not an obvious one. It’s catalogue no 457 and once released was mint within the crumpled packet.

The best bit though? Pinging the famous corgi wheel clips off for the first time in 40 years felt good 😆

IMG_3291.jpeg.a3ac89bf4955383d20c9286e865842df.jpeg

Lastly the Jeep Renegade that corgi squeezed plenty of life out of! I’m not sure how long it lasted, but it must span 20+ years. This version catalogue 447 cam in blue, red and yellow and normally has an aerial (I have it but its snapped orf!) Quite a weighty thing and plenty of play value.

To prove a point, though mine was much cheaper 😉

I think I’ve got one of those minis but it’s in that vomit yellow colour they did the real ones in. Curiously mine says British Leyland on the base.

Posted

I have quite a few of the 1/36 Mini casting but it seems the ones with the early front only came in a few colours. My pal Euan had an orange and a yellow issue and I swapped him the orange one and painted it black to emulate a Mini 30. I also got a silver one a few years ago from one of you lot. They all say British Leyland Mini 1000 on the base.

Corgi updated the casting in 1989 for the Mini's 30th Birthday and all issues that year said 'Mini 30 1989' on the base. The car got new separate headlights with a chrome backing and clear lens and also gained a pair of front headrests together with small whelarch flares like all 12-inch wheeled cars got.

Throughout the 1990s the base was changed to say just 'Mini', and most releases got Minilite wheels with rubber tyres. In 1999 they updated the casting again with the X-Pack which had 13 inch wheels, larger flared arches, door mirrors and some had driving lamps. There was also a slightly sad last version released which I've only seen in 2012 Olympics livery which had non-opening doors.

By all accounts one of the most fun Mini models other than the Mini Manifique of the late 1960s.

Another oddball larger-scale Italian car for the collection, a 1/25 Polistil Alfa Giulietta.

20250105_170019.jpg.0d4ce6af589032cd53a75f240c507ca7.jpg

It's quite a basic model with just a sticker representing the front grille and lights. I stuck it back down with some 'tacky glue' that my wife uses. My Bburago example on the other hand is very detailed with 4 separate parts here for indicators, lamps, grille and badge, plus full opening features and steering.

It looks like both Bburago and Polistil had more basic lines and higher-range models with extra features and more detail.

For example the Bburago Fiat Panda,  Mini Metro and VW Golf have just 2 or 3 opening parts, no steering, plain clear light lenses and yellow wheel centres. But cars like the above Alfa and much older Mercedes S Class had a plethora of details, chrome plated parts, engine detail and the Alfa has steering as well. The latter 2 are not stickered up as rally cars either.

Several Polistil models like the Giulietta, Lamborghini Muira and Porsche 928 are even more basic although the Alfa does at least have an authentic steering wheel unlike the generic and terribly fragile red one that the basic Bburagos were fitted with. I can't work out if Polistil went from superbly detailed models like the Fiesta, Beetles, Rover SD1 and Citroen CX, to these basic ones and then swung back under Tonka ownership to create great models like the Volvo 740 and Lancia Y10, or of there was always a cheaper range. I'll find out the more I buy!

No snow in the south, just very wet with flooded roads everywhere so we went to the Toy fair in Midhurst, which was very quiet.

Mrs Concern bought a big box of stuff for £10

IMG_0875.JPG.b2b876101a90c4af650ab8d9284781db.JPG

The first stall I looked at I bought these for £10, I wanted another Dinky Mini with original wheels and this one's complete. The two blue Speed Kings I didn't want, but I have a couple of very nice Super Kings Dragsters missing the air intake so they'll do nicely!IMG_0879.JPG.b1e973bc7756f7ff34d9b19566a05148.JPG

These below were £2 each which I thought pretty good

IMG_0880.JPG.98a34fabad9df3d972c9d2934214992e.JPG

The same seller had these for £3 each as well

IMG_0881.JPG.270ba465cfbb8a01c4caef0cf9ab4eed.JPG

I only bought three from my usual fave seller, Corgi Lincoln was £4 and the other two £2 each

IMG_0882.JPG.32cc9e6a956ba596f1cfdf1ab8a0ca21.JPG

Seller wanted £10 for this, but when I started walking asked what I thought. Sold for £5, still not cheap really, but I wanted another one, I still have my chidhood one MIB.

IMG_0883.JPG.f4ff3c7c17f7ebb791fff6847ad4723c.JPG

Dinky Lincoln has grill missing so seller took £4

IMG_0884.JPG.293e2cadf5fe6ee22c8a0ed2b2f461e1.JPG

I think it won't need a grill as  it's going to become this

Animal-House-Deathmobile.webp

The 1/24 Bburago Lancia  037 is really nice with opening doors showing controls including what I assume to be navigation gubbins and massive rear engine cover.

IMG_0885.JPG.bd4dac1a553c0b5a41d574682e8d23c9.JPG

The decals all look pretty good too

IMG_0886.JPG.b58c77c9d26978f8b2beb07dc7ac126e.JPG

also the lights which I would imagine must be pretty vulnerable are all good too

Nicely detailed engine

IMG_0888.JPG.9e4ea68fe70b9b5e1c7337ce6cbf212b.JPG

Let me know if you want it @Split_Pin, no problem if you don't as it is very nice.

I decided to pick up both the Corgi and King Size C111s as I have some idea of trying to make one car with all the features of opening doors, engine cover and pop up lights!

IMG_0889.JPG.6f248cf4b38c9a68ed07f65183c5e657.JPG

I'm not a fan of Ferrari models really, but I do like opening everything and I do like Mebetoys

I like how with the front open the wheels come off the ground!

IMG_0890.JPG.b5654aa279836320f1557bed3eb35e93.JPG

It is missing the engine, but still only £2!

IMG_0891.JPG.77294803305df5ce204fba4ea3019213.JPG

The repainted Corgi Lambo is one of the earlier versions with a proper spare wheel in the front and Teledial wheels. If I can find another three cheap ones, I can make my own Golden Jacks version!

IMG_0892.JPG.cb7b0c5635c21d1818fa68bcb0e1e92c.JPG

The Dinky and Corgi Lincolns seem to be of a very similar scale. Van Cleemput doesn't tell us what scale the Corgi was meant to be.

IMG_0894.JPG.7438ad50ddffe0a4bf4670c1526a3bf4.JPG

Unusually the Corgi isn't any wider than the Dinky

IMG_0893.JPG.c617fccc423826d4d98aa0eb27663973.JPG

The seller had a load of these nice V70s in various trim and colours as well as C70s both hard and soft top, I had to rein myself in!

There's a camper version too?! I need to find myself one of those, and a snow plough.

The splatter paint ones are a bit mad

Aha, yes I think I've only seen Delta or Stratos before now.

I forgot to say this one has the working steering too.

IMG_0880.JPG.98a34fabad9df3d972c9d2934214992e.JPG

The same seller had these for £3 each as well

IMG_0881.JPG.270ba465cfbb8a01c4caef0cf9ab4eed.JPG

I only bought three from my usual fave seller, Corgi Lincoln was £4 and the other two £2 each

IMG_0882.JPG.32cc9e6a956ba596f1cfdf1ab8a0ca21.JPG

Seller wanted £10 for this, but when I started walking asked what I thought. Sold for £5, still not cheap really, but I wanted another one, I still have my chidhood one MIB.

Dinky Lincoln has grill missing so seller took £4

IMG_0884.JPG.293e2cadf5fe6ee22c8a0ed2b2f461e1.JPG

I think it won't need a grill as  it's going to become this

The 1/24 Bburago Lancia  037 is really nice with opening doors showing controls including what I assume to be navigation gubbins and massive rear engine cover.

The decals all look pretty good too

also the lights which I would imagine must be pretty vulnerable are all good too

That looks bloody good!

Whats the super glue with baking soda trick? Don’t recall ever hearing this.

Baking soda or bicarb of soda (I don't know what the difference is between them) has a weird reaction and creates a even stronger filler glue. I have found cotton wool and some fibre board/cardboards has the same affect.

I'm trying to find a video that isn't click bait to show it's uses.

Edit with video. Also cotton wool and super glue can get hot/smokey and sort of stringy from my own tests.

So when was Lancia or Fiat sponsored by Gulf???????????????

Stuff like that is why I have a real dislike for modern HotWheels. They just make stuff up that never existed.

I think I’ve got one of those minis but it’s in that vomit yellow colour they did the real ones in. Curiously mine says British Leyland on the base.

Here's just a few from my 1/36 Mini hoard.

I like a Giulietta model as I had a 2.0 back in 1985. It was a great car apart from the weak gearbox synchros. Compared to my fathers MkV Cortina it was light years ahead in driving dynamics and performance.

Here's a nice little Mebetoys 1/43rd one.

There are many variations of the Police Mini, which was based on the Automatic Mini.

Initially the made the model with a smooth rear and applied a decal.

DSCF1196.JPG.61c5c36e948ff70ef7c0b3163df6b54b.JPG

Some versions have the Automatic casting.

The Speedwheels version has a new rear with protruding boot outline and Austin Cooper S cast into the boot lid. Also note the Speedwheels no longer has a roof aerial.

On the subject of Minis, are there any 1/18 models that are actually 1/18?

I'm trying to get models of real cars I've had in 1/18 & was going to buy a Maisto which was even the right colour, but I saw somewhere that the model was more like 1/16,so wouldn't look right sitting with the other cars

Plenty of makers have made 1/18th Minis.

Here's a link to a search on CarModel it

mini cooper | Diecast Model Cars 1/64 1/43 1/24 1/18 1/12

I'm not a fan of large scale stuff so I do not have many 1/18th Minis and have never bothered photographing any I have.

I know there's quite a few of you who buy those reproduction Corgi Toys. Well they are starting to appear on the second hand market. There's an auction coming up on the 6th of January with a number of lots. It will be interesting to be what they make.

There's also a lot of other interesting things in the auction including some very nice mint and boxed Superfast.

British Toy Auctions | Sale of Vintage Toys and Models

The estimate on all the Corgi lots is £60-£80

Corgi Toys - A boxed collection of seven Corgi Toys 'Made in China' re-issued diecast models and

And the results are in. From top to bottom the hammer prices were £90, £80, £95, £90 and £85. The buyer will be paying commission and on-line fees of about 30% inc VAT, which is still a bargain compared to teh new price.

Received this really basic kit today.
Was only a few quid.

Glass is misty on one side, possibly from my attempts to remove the blister from the card using various methods (thinner/acetone no longer works on the brown backed cards). Soon polished up though
