I saw a couple of interesting items at the toy fair, I should have taken a pic I suppose. There was a Solido 1/43 white metal kit Capri RS3100 with opening doors, unmade in the box for £15, can't find much about it online.

Was it in this series? I've seen BMW. Peugeot 504, and Porsche Carerra, but no Capri. Also it would not have opening doors.

Or was it one of these? Again these did not have opening doors.

It could have been what is known as a Trans Kit, were you get a kits of parts that needs a diecast as a base. I've had a few for Solidos but can not find any pictures at the moment.

While is was up in Birmingham I popped into Smyths and found a few bits from a 2025 mix of Hot Wheels

Got home to find the Mrs had picked me up the new version of Gotta Go, now a monster truck. It's very silly, which is why it appeals to me. Front grille is a urinal, exhaust stacks are toilet rolls and the (new) wings represent torn off bog roll too

You did well to find a 1971 Hairy Hauler with its screen

Both examples back here are lacking the screen and are quite fragile

Yours I suspect is also USA not Honk Kong production, as it would be the later revision having the cast link between the exhaust tips

This  screen has a hairline crack.. i started to polish it  with lidls headlight polish and it popped out .. i thought, fuck it , i've cracked it.. but looking at the photo it was already cracked .. i popped it back in ...you just squeeze the sides in to release it ..The youtube hairy hauler restoration guy prises it out with a screwdriver at the back tab which isn't the best way i don't think. Anyway  , BB does a great resto job , made me a  decent rep. of my Honda civic.. so i kinda owe him ..  i see you have a half wheel missing too!  This one has outer half missing too .

That Corgi Tourist set is new to me too

Oddly, the artwork shows an airside setting yet stating it is a portable Service Station.  So I just had as to look one up didn’t I…

IMG_0335.png.9b4ae16ad8660acef40c637f161d2ce2.png.338d4c007517fc82c37ccd7c9e03934e.pngIMG_0332.png.2edf7ef0f5c674d2b900209e01585394.png.ebfc898ae3d58a8da33e7060f8c0236c.pngIMG_0333.png.4726a9cd361a5ee624e8d125076a47e0.png.a713979882b763a9169636d2215203fb.pngIMG_0331.png.838076f52db3a15ed5d28c076e75f681.png.f5f3c60b641f5d99142e8c8245a5c7af.png

So it’s a carry case with insert for multiple cars

Cor!

No idea how long these were produced for but looking at the artwork cars and when the depicted pair of Vickers VC10 were on the BOAC fleet (1964-74) we can get some idea.

I like that artwork…  so how hard could it be to recreate the setting as a scale diorama?

What we need :

- Corgi 479 Commer Bus & TV Cameraman (1968-71)

- Corgi 226 Morris Mini-Minor (1960-68)

- Corgi 332 Lancia Fulvia Zagato (1967-70)

- Corgi Major 1137 Ford H Series & Trailer  (1965-70)

Got all of those here which is a start! So what else

- Some 1:43 figures including the excitable young lad loving the Lancia - perhaps it was the sound of the steel fizzing away

- two models of Vickers VC10

- one Bristol Freighter

I don’t think Corgi did aircraft?  But Dinky, Matchbox and others did…  resorting to Airfix 1:72 might be nearest

Or just call the whole thing off.

Found a Corgi Tourist set !

Lifted the raised deck flap to find...cars, including an 'original-16' Hot Wheels Custom Corvette from 1968.  Had its opening hood still in place but was missing a wheel.

I didn't buy it.

As far as I know, Lesney used registrations that were never issued on real vehicles. Must have been interesting trying to work that out with the DVLA

It's a shame about the screen, it seems they are quite susceptible to damage as both the green/white examples had back here wore similar cracks and breaks, so it was a pleasant surprise to find this one

Today, motherly_Sterling ordered me to stay at home because: OMG SNO KAOS, which is just as well as I spent most of the day sleeping.

I (eventually) woke up to watch YouTube and instantly fell bored. Thankfully, I've stuff to do here anyway so took the opportunity to organise some of my 1/64 cars.

All these are just half of what I have 1/64-wise.

I remembered that I did some wheel swaps many years ago and I mustard mitt, I'm still chuffed with the results. Here is a sample;

1/64 SIKU Mercedes S500, originally would have looked like this:

il_fullxfull.2289267609_7bqg.jpg.5b8e5a4e09521004c83db9c484ea8492.jpg

I got a bit creative with what I had and got it looking like this:

20241119_201942.jpg.05755654d0442919dc55a61598031a0f.jpg

You can see in the background the BMW 325i which sports the same wheels.

And then these 3:

20241119_202554.jpg.ba53c4b945b722888290f36e6960ab0e.jpg

The Landcruiser is some unnamed Chinese thing which would have originally looked liked this:

s-l1200(14).webp.80e408825f5ccc4eb00dad4442bd6d39.webp

I thought that the body of the car was nicely proportioned but let down completely by the wheels. I grabbed the wheels wheels cheap and poorly-proportioned Welly Mercedes ML.

The Mercedes CLK would have originally looked like this:

s-l1200(6).jpg.d6fb605639a4666ab007bdd19930324e.jpg

Which isn't bad, but for a sports Coupe, I felt soke multi-spokes would look better. I grabbed the wheels off a model cheap Chinese Clio V6 model.

20241119_205921.jpg.24bc0d729f5f3aa7fbfee460c23d2363.jpg

The black KA was already modded when I got it. I can't remember if I bought it off here or off eBay. The Silver KA wears the wheels the Black KA came with. But both would have originally started life looking like this:

Majorette_Ford_Ka_(silver_dark_grey_bumpers_NUC2_wheels).jpg.38ce355ad827f8b0eab828220d89aaec.jpg

i3451355624.jpg.4d7d4c23006d7beefc015072c48bf2d2.jpg

Also, one for @brammy777. I think these are all of the Norevs I have (discounting the SIKU truck). I may have more but I doubt it.

Would it not be possible to get a scan and 3D print of the Corgi, reducing it down to 1/43rd. I think it is 1/36 scale, just like their later Mini models.

It is possible if the 1:36 is measured accurately, however the Corgi Austin mini METRO model is out of scale.  It is too portly, by being approx 1:37 scale in length and 1:34 scale in width (I measured). The same goes for the Juniors model as well: it is too wide, overall averaging out to 1:48

20241119_202635324_iOS.jpg.7d96ded82a89d6be77a63ab70f55459c.jpg

The work has largely been done already by CMAC models, who has produced 00 scale (1:76) of the Austin Rover 5-door Metro https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176112717657

s-l1600.webp.f577f2ec22db6a378250f251a5994621.webp

So with a bit of tidying it is possible he could run off to 1:43 as he has done with the Rover Metro kit https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176628304442

s-l1600(1).webp.49c4457754778f9a1a868bc939a02482.webp

I've had a conversation or two and also requested 1:32 ideas in the past, but he does have a long request book.

See @quicksilver's finished examples in 1:76 earlier in the thread:

Otherwise, ask Oxford Diecast to get on with producing a 1:43 alongside their1:76 Austin Metro!

Nice work on those👍

It’s amazing what a difference the wheels can make to a model. Some of the ones they come with are terrible!
I’ve never seen those Ford Ka’s before, and who does that light blue Escort in your box?

Thanks.

Yes, certainly with the Siku Mercedes S500, the replacement wheels look just right. The original wheels it came with made it look dumpy and unwieldy whereas the replacements plus the blacking up of the B-pillars as per real car represented the shape in a much better way.

The Blue Escort is by Majorette:

My parents had one for a few weeks in this colour in the early 90s after their then-brand new Ford Fiesta Mk3 went back to the dealer for rectification work.

The original Solido was bright green, orange or red. Both Corgi and Solido modelled the original 1300 X1/9 with the non-impact bumpers.

Your metallic red one is the same as one that I test drove in 1985. The seller didn't take my offer so I never did get that X1/9.

Here's a bright green Solido.

Yes that’s why I sought the Hachette release, to get nearest colour without expense

A subsequent owner did what I intended to do and fitted the 1300 bumper set

Today, motherly_Sterling ordered me to stay at home because: OMG SNO KAOS, which is just as well as I spent most of the day sleeping.

I (eventually) woke up to watch YouTube and instantly fell bored. Thankfully, I've stuff to do here anyway so took the opportunity to organise some of my 1/64 cars.

All these are just half of what I have 1/64-wise.

I remembered that I did some wheel swaps many years ago and I mustard mitt, I'm still chuffed with the results. Here is a sample;

1/64 SIKU Mercedes S500, originally would have looked like this:

I got a bit creative with what I had and got it looking like this:

You can see in the background the BMW 325i which sports the same wheels.

And then these 3:

The Landcruiser is some unnamed Chinese thing which would have originally looked liked this:

I thought that the body of the car was nicely proportioned but let down completely by the wheels. I grabbed the wheels wheels cheap and poorly-proportioned Welly Mercedes ML.

The Mercedes CLK would have originally looked like this:

Which isn't bad, but for a sports Coupe, I felt soke multi-spokes would look better. I grabbed the wheels off a model cheap Chinese Clio V6 model.

The black KA was already modded when I got it. I can't remember if I bought it off here or off eBay. The Silver KA wears the wheels the Black KA came with. But both would have originally started life looking like this:

Also, one for @brammy777. I think these are all of the Norevs I have (discounting the SIKU truck). I may have more but I doubt it.

What a transformation with just a wheel swap! The Siku S500 looks like a completely different model now.

As far as I know, Lesney used registrations that were never issued on real vehicles. Must have been interesting trying to work that out with the DVLA

I think the plates were initials of people at the factory? They did once put a telephone number on the Security Truck that turned out to be an actual telephone number in the US then had as result to change the tampo.
