The Corgi model is a odd one. A two door GXL. Something I never recall seeing on the road.

18 hours ago, danthecapriman said:

I thought that too! 2 doors were usually GT’s or low spec cars. GXL was used on the top end 4 doors. They knew what they were doing!😄

Yes they did 2 Dr gxls one  features prominently in the advertising & is what the rare yellow corgi one is based on, few survive the rarest is a 1.6 2d GXL ( especially if it's ohv), 4 Dr GT 's were available too (I'm restoring on at the moment for someone) , facelift 2dr GT 's are rare too.

No 2dr 2000 E's were ever made, 3 black rhd 2 Dr 1600E's were made for ford executives I believe 2 survive.

As 2 Dr versions were only avl on the continent ( I think it's in the region of 4500 were made).

On a 2-door model the rear quarter windows can be opened.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again… one of the best looking saloon cars ever! (And estates!)

Posted

I've only had one mk3 Cortina, but oh boy it was a spec!  1972L four door 2000GT, ex-Lancashire police, in Daytona Yellow.  Cost me £40 in 1985 and when I sold it on a few weeks later, having reached the end of the MoT and tax, I got my money back.  You can't buy a Vanguards one for that now....

Posted

I've only had one Cortina, a Mk2 1600E. It was a step up from the VW Beetles I was used to, but it was an old rusty piece of junk that cost £240. I ran it for about 6 months and just about everything that could go wrong went wrong, including the gearbox and rear axle.

My only other experience of a Cortina was my fathers MK5 Carousel 1.6 Auto. A comfortable enough car, but when compared to the Alfa Romeo Giulietta 2.0 I had at the time, it was stogey slow dull saloon.

The Mk3 is a good looking car for it's time, but it's not something I would put on my drive. However I do from time to time think about having another 1600E, but the prices asked for them you might as well save up a bit more and go for a Lotus one, in Jade Green.

Posted

I remember reading a book as a kid called Katys Kit Car, where this lass and her father transformed a Mk3 into a ghastly Dutton Melos. I like the Mk3, very of its time, I’m sure they were probably no worse than any other car at the time.

I never had a Mk3 Cortina. I had a Mk2. It was a 4 door  Super, in the notorious Silver Fox. This one had been resprayed.😕

What it did have was a steering lock and a padded steering wheel. It also had reinforced MacPherson strut tops. These were spot welded in the engine bay. In those days spot welding was only done at the factory. Never did find out why the car was made like this.

Sounds like it was export spec, I'm not up on mk1-2's.

I've lost count years ago I own 5 1/2 mk3's & 2 mk5's plus the falcon Ute.

Just won something on eBay I'm quite excited about

Screenshot_20241021-211010.png.ee97da21c9768496a5d9141ad4390952.pngScreenshot_20241021-211058.png.013418a5e667c3d22e104046be751c61.png

Could it be an original Transpalite? I know most of their output was MOY stuff encased in resin, but it's the right era. Itching for it to arrive now

Got very stuck in Kent today thanks to total carnage on the roads, so I went Hot Wheels hunting while I waited for the traffic to ease (it didn't)

Found a new set of premiums, not especially into off roaders but this one came home with me

Never knew that.
Hambrook where they made them is only about 10 minutes drive from here! Only a little place too. Midhurst isn’t far either.

Head over, maybe they’ve got a huge pile of Lesney in the back they keep tripping over and the need shifting. 🤣

I think that is something someone made at home using Plasticraft. I stuck all sorts of stuff in mine, but never any Matchbox cars.
