I believe so yes. I don't actually have an original Lesney Minor yet

Two Matchbox Volkswagens arrived today, a really tidy Caravette

But this excites me even more, Baja Buggy...

but it's got 12 louvres on the sides rather than 13. I have absolutely no idea why they made this change but it must have been very early in production as they're a right sod to find

I've never seen one of those campers with the doors intact!

Sometimes you just have to keep going until you get a full set!

Quite a few minor variations on these, different size boxes inside the side doors and several wheel types spring to mind. There are also two different interiors/bases

Black wheels/rivetted base

Plain base, smoother grey wheels

No idea. Got both red and black exhausts and that red interior one the other week but not yet got the two seat error version - that's seriously rare

There are some odd sticker variations out there too. It is possible to build a fake two seater using the MB 47 Rolamatics Dune Buggy interior.

How do you get the roughness out of the tyres?

Just a bit of 800 grit wet sanding, a coat of black acrylic after smoothes everything out too.

They were pretty good to start with, always worth trying to find the best examples to start with rather than fighting with really chewed up plastic

By jingo my Matchbox luck is still going strong.

I think doing a big shop on a Wednesday is the key (keep it under your hat though).

I reckon that's it now I'll not find another new 1:64th all year. It's like getting a few green lights in a row then expecting the worst.

Have we had a Autozam in red before?

Here’s another little project I’ve been working on!

Based on the 007 partwork Ford Taunus.

Now a Cortina mk4 in 90’s old banger state.

IMG_4108.thumb.jpeg.7144ba7814f803f1c18ba17cc9db0fb9.jpeg

Stripped to bare metal, re sprayed beige. Odd panels re sprayed to look like they’ve been replaced from scrap cars. Chrome window trims all done in silver.
Wheels from a Capri 2.8i, 7jx13 pepperpot alloys, added as these things were at the time!
The Capri they came from will become a basic spec Capri so a wheel swap seemed obvious.

Just needs dirtying up next with some black patches on the sills as welding repairs from MOT’s, maybe some primer splodges here and there and some rusty bits.
Side trims need doing in black too. Then swap the dash around to make it rhd.

That’s tremendous! I had the same idea but as usual it’s just something I never got round to 😩

I'm starting to think that St Georges has run its course.....

You could be right - and I'm now wondering if it's even worth heading over tomorrow, as Market Blokey won't be there:

Decent of him to give me a heads-up, anyway - don't really envy him, like.

Not sure if a 6.20 start can be justified in the morning, as I dunno if I much fancy travelling in just to balefully stare at Sheila's ludicrously overpriced £5 diecast with apparently literal shit all over one of them.

Meh. I'll see how I feel.

Not worth your valuable time and fuel in my opinion.

It's been a good run. Purchases from Tat Friday are everywhere on my shelves. Special mention to the legendary £5 Hong Kong buses which were clearly all part of the same once-cherished collection. I think you captured most of them and they are now in their new life, all together in a row right at the front of my Bus Shelf.

Other stalwarts are the many trucks, £10 1/18 models, Bburago 1/24 Escort MK2 and the odd Franklin Mint Rambler.

Thanks Tim for lifting and posting all of these, it is much appreciated.

Maybe take a break for a couple of weeks and try not to worry about what you might have missed.

Yeah your absence might see the traders bringing their prices down to more sensible levels so maybe try again in a week or two.

That is superb! Very Onslow...

I did similar a few years back, when a Vanguards Escort fell off a shelf and got pretty badly damaged,

So it got an underseal tidemark all round, metallic brown front wings, (courtesy of a touch up kit from one of my old 190Es!), various giffer scrapes/gouges and a black rear arch replacement panel on one side,

Just how I remember a lot of them circa 1988, and it got added to the other Vanguards Hidden Treasures cars as they never did a weathered MK1, surprisingly.

That’s fantastic! I’m surprised, as you say, Vanguards didn’t do a battered Escort.

Funnily enough Ive just filled and sanded the roof on this one today.
It’ll not be in banger condition though.

IMG_3848.thumb.jpeg.a7f981bb96f309bf002f86462116b35d.jpeg

I dug a few partwork Sierra’s out today. All from the Argentina collection.

IMG_4111.thumb.jpeg.ded45987d24f35f99648cf04351f9dea.jpeg

Mk1 Ghia estate with South American spec front end/US spec big front bumper.
Mk1 Ghia hatchback.
Mk1 L hatchback.

You can see that big horrible US spec bumper here!

IMG_4112.thumb.jpeg.b639671160bebcae12a8e43214e64165.jpeg

So the yellow L spec car is actually a damaged one. The screen pillar has been hit by something and bent it in forcing the glazing to pop out.
Since I’ve got a few of these Sierra’s I’m going to use the damaged yellow car as a donor. I’ll chop off the nasty US front end from the estate then chop off the L front end from the yellow car in the same place. Fill the bumper top so it’s flush as per euro Sierra’s then attach the two together, to give me a European spec Sierra estate in a low trim level.
The roof bars will be removed too. Then a repaint into Ford ceramic blue.

IMG_4113.thumb.jpeg.87e3d78f21202cdfeb7944a77f216f12.jpeg

That’s the plan anyway!

Decided to give the market a bit of a break this morning, for multiple reasons.

IMG_20240315_0701152.thumb.jpg.11ca082b01f644d096949667e191ae41.jpg

But at least the rain has stopped.

IMG_20240315_0700552.thumb.jpg.3895772978c5288afd6f444de2452adf.jpg

And even if the Tree of Tat remains bare still, there are other things a-growing.

So... maybe a promise of better times to come.

Happy Friday, kids.

The garden is looking lovely.

I agree with canning the Market, enjoy a peaceful Friday!
