Blimey!! Salty much!

I had no idea it was a rip off Tomica! Still looks good though. I find some Zylmex models just look cheap and nasty but others are actually pretty good, like this Datsun.
That’s why I want to find a list (preferably with pics) so I can see which ones to hunt down. Some of their American cars are pretty good too. There’s a Lincoln Continental that looks great.

By the way, hobbyDB is getting bigger all the time. I first became aware of it about 7 or more years ago when they started to get Brooklin stuff posted on there. It is becoming the go to place for collectables stuff.

Here's a new livery for Corgi to sort out, rather than do all those Fords...

The Butterflies BBC TV show from the 70s-80s.  I remember more the Morris Mini Minor paintjob

Should be at Gaydon!  But no, YRX 652 is now on a 2018 Golf 5-door 1.4 hybrid

Forget Mini Mostest, this is the one to do next.  Probably.

The original YRX 652 (used from 1978 to 1980) was built in 1961, and had a Single dial Speedo, Red / Grey-fleck interior and "small-dish" style hub-caps.
The replacement YRX 652 (used in 1983) was built some time between Oct 1962 and May 1963. It had the later, 3 dials-type Speedo, a monotone Red interior and larger "half-moon" style hub-caps.

Well, somebody thought it worth doing a render effort:

That Butterflies Mini is the reason so many sad twats have flags on their roofs. I think it should be forgotten.

In 2016 I purchased a Rover Mini Cooper with a stupid painted roof. This picture was taken after I had driven it back from the seller.

Photo-0007.thumb.jpg.a0eb75aca8e27b64db639a1a2e028660.jpg

The next day it was in the paint shop getting the roof painted black. I also removed all the stupid strips as well. A week later it looked like this.

Heavy rain is forecast for Scotland later this evening and its pretty dark here too...so hopefully it's just that.

It was warm enough to sit out yesterday and it's pleasantly warm this morning.

A few trees are starting to turn already though, earliest I have ever seen.

When I was a kid you could amass a decent collection for not a lot from Jumble Sales, car boots etc but now it is much more difficult as everyone is an antiques expert - in reality they know very little. I’m talking about the ones in Charity Shops which are crazy money, the wife chastises me when I bring up the crazy prices offered in these places as it’s a charity, but it doesn’t give them carte blanche to rip people off.

Sorry to disappoint you Sierraman, but the fact is that these are not charities but professional trading arms of a charity. The manager of the shop is a well paid employee of the company which runs the shop and is expected to produce a high profit in the shop. It is only after staff costs, expenses, rates and any other costs are deducted, that any "profit" is passed to the charity.

The charity may benefit in the long run, but the shop's sole purpose is to make money like any other high street store.

Well the diecast will just sit there forever then. Not exactly beneficial in the long run.

Well then... you'll probably be as relieved as I was that - upon storming through the market doors a little later than I'd have liked - normal service appears to have been resumed.

IMG_20230818_0741282.thumb.jpg.e439e625c19e689d333e7206eaa8a607.jpg

Phew.

The Nemesis was there, busy Nemesising, but... it wasn't really our kind of thing today, so much.

IMG_20230818_0742072.thumb.jpg.1e5a6db1e4c548a8ec878172c4e03661.jpg

I mean, sure I've picked up the odd 1/18 from the stall - but it's not quite my bag, in general.

IMG_20230818_0743222.thumb.jpg.21d151c62a2c189d4fe6586255588f83.jpg

Though I daresay F1 and supercars are better than no tat at all, I did feel a smidge deflated.

IMG_20230818_0743192.thumb.jpg.4a1a95a14f8e4dbed500e0ae207ae1ee.jpg

Bburago 1/24 '90s F1 has a certain nostalgia pull, I guess, but at £10 a go I wasn't really feeling it.

IMG_20230818_0743142.thumb.jpg.1058346b66169ab3ac84cd3ae47bb83d.jpg

Equally, the big Tonka Polistil Porsche 911 brought back memories - but this one was in pretty bad shape.

IMG_20230818_0743322.thumb.jpg.a17654154871b0322c6ae9e74fadb08d.jpg

Coupe was in less of a state than the floppytop, but still...

IMG_20230818_0742352.thumb.jpg.c8a23157b2bdd9176841289a47ad51b6.jpg

1/24 Chevrolet Delivery Van by Liberty was alright, though.

IMG_20230818_0743092.thumb.jpg.3847a4357978ddff00f26de5b81d729d.jpg

Hot Wheels NASCAR Ford (Thunderbird?) and McLaren F1 were missing a few inconsequential bits, but my boat remained stubbornly unfloated.

IMG_20230818_0742312.thumb.jpg.6faea19f20a7fbc7f9dfe8edca164313.jpg

M'learned Friend had snagged a few for his own collection... Maxi Mégane was probably the most interesting of the lot.

Though there were a few more that hadn't yet made it out of the box and onto the stall...

IMG_20230818_0753402.thumb.jpg.771bfa55c7327ef35fa8ec2b927cefbc.jpg

Some kit and scratch-built military models were also in the mix today...

IMG_20230818_0742252.thumb.jpg.f4e1917373df8c7e0c4fc6cee4c0653d.jpg

Plus this rather odd Brumm horse and coaches set:

IMG_20230818_0742152.thumb.jpg.9f2e22109c9907ba0c1ac2705d129eae.jpg

Which originated from my old stomping ground.

IMG_20230818_0742192.thumb.jpg.769e114df33127a3357a488eb02c7d4b.jpg

A loooooong time ago, I'd say.

A solitary tiny (and very basic) Crescent racer was the only other diecast item to be seen:

IMG_20230818_0756402.thumb.jpg.e1818a588f20d9c12df9289913114b8b.jpg

Although I could have had this Rev. W. Awdry-baiting 'Timmy The Tank Engine feat. Edward the Blue Engine' Hornby set, if I'd really wanted to.

IMG_20230818_0743472.thumb.jpg.b075e2b634297115451b60bef225ae15.jpg

But, just as I was about to wander off and see what was what elsewhere, The Nemesis beckoned me over to a box that Market Blokey had just unearthed.

Oh, hello...

Basically out of the £15 for those old Days Gone By, about 14p will go to charity. It’s more of a charity to keep the store manager in a job 😂

Now this was more like it.

And, of course, the added frisson of a head-to-head with my former diecast foe - who would find the gold?

Well, kind of him, as it turned out:

IMG_20230818_0753222.thumb.jpg.a505f1b367d8e246b555cb3ce678f300.jpg

The Dinky Supertoys Vega Major coach was another that - like the Mercedes LP 1920 truck profiled the other week - suffered from Project Drive style cheeseparing under Meccano's new owners, Lines Bros. This later example had lost its working headlights, but it's still a lovely big model.

But that's not to say there wasn't still treasure to be found...

IMG_20230818_0749252.thumb.jpg.d1f01ec1ecf6742be736405229ed2164.jpg

A pair of early Corgi DB4s...

IMG_20230818_0749472.thumb.jpg.b9e289b9a611ee7636d60130b3b037bd.jpg

The brighter yellow example had definitely been drilled and repainted - yet was in worse condition than the original paler yellow one.

IMG_20230818_0748522.thumb.jpg.e5b3c2e4b691e902d62e980d8f0a18f9.jpg

IMG_20230818_0750172.thumb.jpg.7b24132eb86aa5ce200af4141946b901.jpg

And more repainting fun, with this Corgi Renault Floride and Volvo P1800S also taking on the racing mantle.

Dinky Ford Sedan (sloppily overpainted) and Corgi 'Golden Guinea' Studebaker Golden Hawk bringing a bit of transatlantic glitz to an otherwise grey Belfast morning.

I've been looking for a decent Corgi MkX Jaguar for a while.

I'm still looking.

XK120 coop also suffering slightly from Dinky's 1950s jollity drive, when they began applying the most ludicrous two-tone shades to their models in an effort to create more appeal for kids.

IMG_20230818_0749122.thumb.jpg.0476c5cee291776fb5e4862fbb1df1df.jpg

Corgi Jeep Forward Control actually quite clean; Land Rover missing its bumper ends, as ever.

IMG_20230818_0751012.thumb.jpg.315ccc86b37568da42d23e15c2c19bce.jpg

Dinky Bedford dropside and US gas hauler were fundamentally intact.

IMG_20230818_0751182.thumb.jpg.3394ab71978d321cff30eaceb22019de.jpg

Corgi ERF refuse wagon and Commer flatbed a bit worse for wear, though.

IMG_20230818_0751342.thumb.jpg.366c574ef49645080823b06196ccef3f.jpg

And dropping... ERF tipper missing a fair bit of superstructure, while the Dinky bus had been on the receiving end of some Humbrol love.

IMG_20230818_0752352.thumb.jpg.f9b255a83f997604752a98ca97f023ac.jpg

Loadless Supertoys Foden 8-wheeler had suffered a considerable knock at some point in its history...

IMG_20230818_0752532.thumb.jpg.52000eda5e52da83bd7417484f8ca24d.jpg

IMG_20230818_0752592.thumb.jpg.a9fb976343fe377518df34304830f230.jpg

But still - it survives.

They made 'em tough.

Because I'm fundamentally lazy, I didn't bother hoking out the duplicates or military stuff... cos I'm not really that interested in military stuff.
